Of the nine defensemen to suit up for Vancouver this season, eight players have collected at least one point. Quinn Hughes leads all Canucks blueliners with 11 points (1-10-11) in 9 games, after leading all Vancouver defensemen with 53 points (8-45-53) in 68 games last season. Tyler Myers ranks in second among scoring for Vancouver defensemen this season with 6 points (1-5-6) in 10 games.
BOEST MODE With two goals on Jan. 28/21 vs Ottawa, Brock Boeser reached the 80 career goal mark, becoming the fourth-fastest to do so (207 games) in franchise history to start an NHL career. The only three Canucks to score 80 career goals faster than Boeser to start a career are Pavel Bure (119 games), Tony Tanti (168 games) and Petri Skriko (199 games). RECORD SETTER Quinn Hughes skated in his 100th career NHL game (regular season and playoffs) on Jan. 28/21, collecting two assists along the way to boost his career point total to 83 (11-72-83). Hughes’ 83 combined regular season and playoff points (11-72—83 in 100 GP) are the 10th-most in NHL history among defensemen through 100 games. His 72 assists are tied for the third most, trailing only Mark Howe (80) and Sergei Zubov (75). Hughes' 11 points this season (1-10-11) are also the most by a Canucks defenseman through the team's first 10 games of the season since Paul Reinhart (16 points) in 1989.90. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES? With two assists on Jan. 27/21 vs Ottawa, Quinn Hughes ranked 3rd among NHL defensemen for assists (56) through their first 82 career games (full season equivalent) since the 1980.81 season. Earlier this season, Hughes tied Chris Chelios for the fifth-fewest games needed (74) by an NHL defenseman before reaching 50 career assists. CENTRE OF ATTENTION With his second goal of the season on Jan. 27/21 vs Ottawa, Elias Pettersson moved into 5th place among Swedish-born centres in NHL history for most career goals (57) before the age of 23. At 22 years, 79 days, Pettersson's 58 career goals now trail only Mats Sundin (125), Nicklas Backstrom (76), Patrik Sundstrom (68), and Mika Zibanejad (64) on that list. SPREADING THE SCORING AROUND Tyler Motte (5 goals) became the fourth Canuck to register 4+ goals on the season with a two-goal outing Jan. 27/21 vs Ottawa, marking the first time the Canucks have had at least four players with 4+ goals through the team's first nine games since the 1995.96 season. Bo Horvat (5), Brock Boeser (4), and Brandon Sutter (4) are the other Vancouver skaters to earn that distinction this season. FAMILY TRADITION Brandon Sutter recorded his first career hat trick with a three-goal performance, Jan. 25/21 vs Ottawa. In doing so, he became the sixth member of the Sutter family to record a hat trick in the NHL (regular season and playoffs), joining father Brent (6), and uncles Brian (7), Darryl (3), Duane (1 - playoffs), and Rich (1). Brandon also cemented himself as the first Canuck since Jannik Hansen (Jan. 23/16 at PIT) to tack a shorthanded marker onto a threegoal outing, and the first to do so at home since Alex Burrows (Jan. 5/10 vs CBJ).
