PROSPECT PROFILE
BRENDEN KICHTON BY KRISTI HENNESSY
Position: Defense Height: 6’0 Weight: 190 Shoots: Left Born: June 18, 1992 Birthplace: Spruce Grove, Alberta JuniorTeam: Spokane Chiefs (WHL) Drafted: Selected by Winnipeg Jets in round 7, #190 overall in 2013 NHL Draft. There aren’t too many seventh-round draft picks who have put up three 70plus point seasons consecutively, from the blueline. Brenden Kichton is one of them, and he wears a Winnipeg Jets jersey along with his new three-year, entrylevel contract. The Spruce Grove, AB native played five seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League for 333 career games, 268 points (67g, 201a) and 143 career penalty minutes. The 6’0 190-pound defenceman not only led the Chiefs in points in 2012-13, but also won the WHL Defenceman of the Year award after leading all defenceman in scoring with 74 points, including 57 assists. In 71 games, Kichton scored 17 goals with a plus-minus 25. “It was a great season,” said Kichton. “We lost to a pretty good Portland team in the second round but overall I was happy with how my season went. For me, I just did what I was able to do over the last two years. I’ve had a really good coach, Don Nachbaur, who allowed me to do what I can do. That’s really helped me a lot through the years.” Nachbaur was quick to attest to Kichton’s strengths and attributes as a player. “Brenden was an excellent player to coach,” said Nachbaur. “He was a very driven athlete who continued to get better year after year. Kich was extremely
dedicated to the game of hockey and took very good care of himself. There is no question he obtained his success from his dedication and hard work, but he never accepted being average or having an off night. “Although Brenden is not an overly big player, he was extremely competitive, possessed excellent skills and was an elite player in Major Junior Hockey. He worked his way into becoming one of the best two-way defensemen in the Western Hockey League, and this is a credit to his character and drive. This is why he was selected to lead our club as Team Captain.” General Manager of the Spokane Chiefs, Tim Speltz, will remember the captain for his strong leadership skills and dedication to the club. “Brenden was a great player during his time with our organization,” said Speltz. “He was patient as a young player and waited for his chance to contribute. He quickly flourished when presented the opportunity because of his off-ice commitment and dedication. Brenden was a great example for our younger players with his work ethic and professional approach to the game. He was a great leader offensively while never compromising the defensive side of the game.” Last June wasn’t the first time Kichton heard his name called at the NHL Draft, he was originally drafted by the New York
THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE WINNIPEG JETS HOCKEY CLUB
Islanders in the fifth round, 127th overall, in 2011. When the Isles’ failed to close a deal with Kichton, he was placed back into the draft class for 2013. The Winnipeg Jets were happy to see his name available in the seventh round and selected him 190th overall. The 21-year-old inked a three-year contract with the Jets on August 28th, 2013. “On draft day, I really didn’t know if I was going to get drafted or not, or whether it was the best thing for me,” said Kichton. “When the Jets picked me I was really excited and happy to come to a hockey market. It was a great feeling.” Kichton attended the Winnipeg Jets Development Camp in July, as well as the Young Stars Classic rookie tournament in Penticton, BC in September. He went in looking to make an impression and did just that, recording a pair of goals in the first game and finished with four points in the three-game tournament. “We knew that he had a real offensive upside,” said Jets’ prospects, and St. John’s IceCaps head coach, Keith McCambridge. “That was obviously there with a real good presence in the first game, but I also thought defensively, he made some good reads. I thought he moved the puck up the ice efficiently, so good first impression for me. I know we saw him in development camp but from a coaching side of things, this is different as they are getting ready for training camp and the season.” 23

ST.JOHN’S ICECAPS
SEASON PREVIEW
BY : BRENDAN MCCARTHY, THE ST.JOHN’S TELEGRAM There is a threshold the Winnipeg Jets will eventually cross, when organizationally, it will be the Jets and nothing but Jets, with all vestiges of the Atlanta Thrashers, the franchise’s previous incarnation, having been removed. This is not to say that there is some kind of ongoing purge. It is a process that will occur far less through design and much more through the regular transactional nature of pro hockey. It certainly began a little over two years ago with the transaction that was the sale of the Thrashers and the move to Winnipeg. This change in ownership led to a change in management, and in turn, a change in the coaching staff and a change throughout hockey operations. There was also a change in farm clubs, with True North Sports and Entertainment, the Jets’ owners, moving their American Hockey League team, the Manitoba Moose, to St. John’s to become the IceCaps.
THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE WINNIPEG JETS HOCKEY CLUB
It’s in St. John’s that much of the next phase of that organizational changeover will take place this season as, for the first time, a class of players drafted as Winnipeg Jets turns pro. Defenceman Jacob Trouba and forward Mark Scheifele are the former first-rounders who were seen, entering training camp, as players capable of making the immediate jump to the National Hockey League. They are indisputably the headliners, but forwards Adam Lowry, J.C. Lipon and Austen Brassard and defenceman Brenden Kichton are also players who have put on Winnipeg jerseys and hats on draft day and are operating on entry-level contracts that kick in this season. “I think it’s important that we’re now starting to see the kind of players that the Winnipeg Jets have identified at drafts coming up to the pro level,” said IceCaps’ third-year head coach Keith McCambridge. “We’re seeing the kind of players the Jets believe in. “That’s not to say that the players who were drafted by Atlanta aren’t important. They are vital for us,and anyway, most of them have never known any other organization at the pro level other than Winnipeg and the rest of have spent more time in the Jets system than in the Thrashers. 27
“So they’re Winnipeg Jets, too, But yes, I think it’s key that we’ve come to the point where we’ll see Winnipeg draft picks in St. John’s. I don’t want to say we’re seeing the ‘Winnipeg way,’ but we are definitely seeing the way Winnipeg drafts.” Lowry (3rd round, 2011) arrives in the pro ranks with an NHL pedigree (his father is “Jungle” Dave Lowry who played nearly 1,100 big-league games) and from the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos after a 2012-13 season that saw him score 45 goals, 88 points and earn the WHL player of the year award. A big (six-foot-five) centre, Lowry actually got a taste of the AHL last season, appearing in nine games with the IceCaps at the conclusion of his junior campaign. Kichton (7th round, 2013) also earned WHL honours last season; he was named the league’s top defenceman, beating out Maple Leafs’ prospect Morgan Rielly in the final selection process. Kichton, who totalled 62 goals, 178 assists and a plus-118 rating for the Spokane Chiefs over his last three junior years was actually redrafted, having been taken in the fifth round by the New York Islanders in 2011, but never signed with the Isles. Lipon (3rd round, 2013), like Kichton, will turn pro just months after having been drafted by Winnipeg. The rightwinger who was part of Canada’s last world junior team was selected just a couple of weeks shy of his 20th birthday. He has 36 goals, 89 points and 115 penalty minutes for the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers in 2012-13.
28
ICECAPS UPDATE
Brassard (5th round, 2011) is right-winger with good size (six-two, 210 pounds). He comes from the Ontario Hockey League’s Belleville Bulls, who lost to Scheifele and the Barrie Colts in last season’s Eastern Conference final. Brassard had 33 points and a plus-15 rating in 62 games with Belleville last season, but stepped up his play in the playoffs, with six goals and six assists in 17 contests. The rookies will be part of what will be a fairly young roster in St. John’s this season after a fairly extensive renovation of an IceCaps team that finished second-last in the AHL’s Eastern Conference in 2012-13. Players still on entry-level deals expected back with St. John’s are defencemen Julian Melchiori, Ben Chiarot and Cody Sol and forwards Ivan Telegin, Carl Klingberg and John Albert. All were Atlanta draft picks, as was rearguard Will O’Neill, who is on an AHL contract.

Also on an entry-level deal is goaltender Jussi Olkinuora, the Finn who turned pro last spring after leaving the University of Denver. He’ll be on a netminding depth chart that includes Michael Hutchinson, signed as a free agent after three years in Boston’s system with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, and Eddie Pasquale, the AHL’s top rookie goaltender from 2012. Pasquale is another three-year pro, but one who will still be 22 at the start of the season. Into their second pro contracts are Eric O’Dell, the IceCaps’ leading scorer last season (29-26-55 in 59 GP), and Patrice Cormier. They are similar in that they are 23-year-old centres drafted in the second round by other NHL teams (Cormier by New Jersey, O’Dell by Anaheim), but who saw their rights traded to Atlanta before their junior careers ended. Also back are three players promoted to St. John’s from the ECHL midway through last season: combative sixfoot-three, 225-pound winger Ryan Schnell (seven fights in 22 games with the IceCaps) and fellow forwards Josh Lunden and Kael Mouillierat. The latter two actually joined O’Dell to create what would become St. John’s top line, with Mouillierat finishing third in scoring for St. John’s (11-31-42) even though he spent a third of the season in the ECHL. A 26-year-old Edmonton native and product of Minnesota State University-Mankato, Mouillierat was one of three players signed to AHL contracts who earned an invitation to the main training camp of the Winnipeg Jets this September, the others being St. John’s captain Jason Jaffray and forward Blair Riley. The biggest changes for St. John’s in 2013-14 comes at the veteran level. As the only returnee who played pro before 2010, the 32-year-old Jaffray (15-33-48 in 62GP) is really the only carry-over player in the category, the others having moved on (mostly to Europe) or retired, including Newfoundlander Jason King, the first-ever player signed by the IceCaps. King’s playing career was ended by concussion problems and he’s joined McCambridge’s staff as a new assistant coach. The Jets and IceCaps general manager Craig Heisinger have filled the veteran void with forwards Andrew Gordon, Jerome Samson, Maxime Legault and the aforementioned Riley, along with defenceman Kris Fredheim. Gordon and Samson are seen as immediate depth players for Winnipeg. Both are on NHL deals and both have already seen a fair bit of time in the big-leagues. Gordon, 27, has appeared in 55 games with Washington, Anaheim and Vancouver. The 26-year Samson has played in 46 contests for the Carolina Hurricanes.

CEMENTING THE CORE 2013-14 WINNIPEG JETS SEASON PREVIEW BY KRISTI HENNESSY
50
WHEN THE SHORTENED 2012-13 SEASON CAME TO A CLOSE ON APRIL 25TH 2013, WINNIPEG JETS GENERAL MANAGER, KEVIN CHEVELDAYOFF, KNEW A BUSY SUMMER WAS ON THE HORIZON. His first plan of attack was to secure three vital players;, forwards Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little, and defenceman Zach Bogosian. All three of them were arbitration-eligible players set to become restricted free agents on July 5th, 2013. “After every season you’re always taking stock of where you’re at, where you want to go and what the tools and mechanisms are in your power to be able to get there,” explained Cheveldayoff. “There’s a lot of behind the scenes work in respect to contract evaluation and obviously a bulk of the summer was trying to resign the core of the team. “The different nuance last year was that the cap actually went down for the first time in many years so it was a differ-
ent dynamic there. As in anything, when you’re dealing with a set cap system, managing cap dollars and actual dollars becomes a difficult balancing act at times.” Free agency came and went with many expecting fireworks. For Chevy and his group, they knew things don’t just happen overnight. They did however, happen in a domino effect. “It’s interesting,” said Chevy. “It is a process and the human nature is, you’d like to get things done really quickly and put it out of your mind, but the reality is the deals have to work for both sides and a lot of times that requires a lot of work and a lot of back and forth. 51

“Little and Wheeler were both one year away from unrestricted free-agency and when a player has that opportunity they can then entertain bids from anybody, so it’s very enticing for players that have had success to want to go that route. We were fortunate in both of those cases they had the desire to be here for a longer period of time.” The Jets agreed to terms with Little first on July 22nd to a four year, $23.5 million contract. Wheeler followed on July 26th with a six-year, $33.6 million contract. “Blake has blossomed with our group, given the opportunity to play the role that he has with the group. Someone that we feel will have really strong consideration for the US Olympic team and well, he should. His size, speed, hockey sense and skills combination, there’s not a lot of players that can do what he can do at that size and speed ratio. We believe that he is a late bloomer typeplayer that is going to continue to get better.” Chevy completed the task of locking up the team’s core players by signing 23year old defenseman Zach Bogosian to a seven-year, $36 million contract on July 29th, 2013. In all, 11 players have now have contracts that run through the 2015-16 season.
“LITTLE AND WHEELER HAD THAT OPPORTUNITY TO ENTERTAIN BIDS FROM ANYBODY... WE WERE FORTUNATE IN BOTH OF THOSE CASES THEY HAD THE DESIRE TO BE HERE FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.”
“Bogosian was a player that, while he wasn’t as close to unrestricted free agency as Bryan and Blake, was a young defenceman set to become unrestricted at 25 years old,” he continued. “He’s not even entering the prime of his career yet so we were very focused on getting a long-term deal right from the beginning.” 2013 NHL DRAFT, MICHAEL FROLIK AND DEVIN SETOGUCHI Cheveldayoff didn’t just re-sign a handful of current players over the summer. He also wanted to bolster the depth and competition up front. With the new additions of forwards Devin Setoguchi from the Minnesota Wild and Michael Frolik from the Chicago Blackhawks, he felt he accomplished just that. NHLI/GETTY 165865172
“I had the benefit of being a part of the Blackhawks organization, so when we traded for Michael Frolik, I had a little bit of familiarity with him as a person,” Chevy clarified. “Also, a scout on our staff was with the Florida Panthers
53
when Michael was there so we know a lot about him as a player too. The value he brings from an energy and penalty-killing standpoint proves that he can play up and down the lineup on any given night. “Like anything, with the salary cap going down, we knew that there’d be some pressure on [Chicago] in the short term and long term. They made two trades for their own reasons and the Frolik one was one that worked for us from a financial perspective and an asset perspective as well.” The Jets had 10 draft picks heading into the 2013 NHL Draft on June 30th. Their first round pick was set at 13th
overall, followed by two second round selections, two third round’s and two fourth’s. With the 13th overall pick, the Jets drafted defenceman Josh Morrissey from the Price Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. “You never really know how the picks will fall,” he explained. “You rate the picks internally and certainly you have your list to work off of. In our case, with a player like Josh, he’s someone who has tremendous hockey sense and skating ability, which is what we covet with respect to defencemen. We were very thankful to be able to draft a player like that.
“BLAKE HAS BLOSSOMED WITH OUR GROUP... HIS SIZE, SPEED, HOCKEY SENSE AND SKILLS COMBINATION, THERE’S NOT A LOT OF PLAYERS THAT CAN DO WHAT HE CAN DO AT THAT SIZE AND SPEED RATIO.” 54
“There’s going to be some development and time with a player like that to reach his full potential, and we’re prepared to give him the time that he needs to develop to become a real solid player for many years to come.”
“We’ve been very open about wanting to add more players to the right side and continue to try to improve. With the addition of Setoguchi and Frolik, our right side has improved dramatically.”
Chevy and his group were able to use a few of those draft picks to their advantage in other areas of the draft as well.
ADDITIONAL PIECES
“We wanted to draft some quality players to continue to build and stockpile young players that are going to become the pipeline for the success of our team, but we also wanted to improve our team right now. So we were able to use some of the picks to acquire Michael Frolik, and plant the seeds of the Devin Setoguchi trade at the draft.
In addition to picking up key players in Devin Setoguchi and Michael Frolik, there were still a few holes to fill and other current roster players who required new contracts. July 6th, 2013: Jets signed 29-year old defenceman Adam Pardy. He played in 17 games last season with the Buffalo Sabres where he collected four assists and 14 penalty minutes.

July 6th, 2013: Jets signed Jerome Samson, 25, who played in 37 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League last season and recorded 27 points (7G, 18A) and 27 penalty minutes. Samson has played in 46 NHL games in his six-year career with the Hurricanes where he’s scored nine points (2G, 7A) and collected 18 penalty minutes. July 6th, 2013: Jets signed 27-year-old Andrew Gordon. He played in 54 games with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League last season. In that time, he recorded 32 points (19G, 13A) and 49 penalty minutes. He also suited up for six games with the Vancouver Canucks. The Halifax, NS native has played in 55 career NHL games between Washington, Anaheim and Vancouver for seven career points (3G, 4A) and six penalty minutes.

YOUNG GUN FROM THE

IF THE WINNIPEG JETS NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY IN THE NHL’S WESTERN CONFERENCE, 26-YEAR-OLD DEVIN SETOGUCHI MIGHT BE A GOOD PROFESSOR. BY RHÉANNE MARCOUX

ACQUIRED
from the Minnesota Wild on July 5, 2013 by Jets General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, Devin Setoguchi has played his entire career in the West; spending four seasons with the San Jose Sharks, and the past two NHL campaigns with the Wild. Setoguchi says the Western Conference is fairly similar to its Eastern counterpart. “The game is a little different in the West. A lot of teams are a little bit lower scoring. I think the top 10 scorers last year were all from the East,” said Setoguchi. “In the West it’s a little tighter checking, but I mean it shouldn’t be any different. I think it’s nice with the re-alignment, as far as travel goes. I know in Minnesota last year we traveled something like 32,000 miles, and that was a lot.” The Jets know a thing or two about travel. The team finished last season with 52,991 miles in the air. But it’s not travelling that Setoguchi thinks about. The owner of 222 points in 384 NHL games is excited to play in the MTS Centre. “It’s definitely the loudest and hardest rink to play in for sure,” he said. “It’s hockey. That’s the exciting part. Our job is the main focus around the city, and that makes it fun.” His excitement to play in Winnipeg says something, since Setoguchi has only visited the Manitoba capital a few times.
60
“My old junior hockey roommate lived here. I came out here for a weekend. That was probably seven years ago,” said Setoguchi. “I’m from a small town in Alberta called Taber with about 6,000 people. This is a big city for me either way.” It was in his hometown of Taber that Setoguchi developed the shot he’s known for around the NHL. “That was kind of my biggest thing growing up. My dad taught me to get the puck off my stick as quick as I can,” he said. “I just try to play an up and down game and get to the net, win puck battles, and try to score. That’s my game, to try to be a top six forward that plays a bit rugged, and use my speed to create some havoc.” Changing cities like Setoguchi has for the second time in his professional career can be difficult. But the former member of the Saskatoon Blades and Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League says his move to Winnipeg was made easier thanks to a friendship he made at the 2005 World Under-18 Tournament. “I played with Bryan Little in Under-18’s a couple times,” he said. “I skated with a couple guys in the summer in Minnesota. Anywhere you go, I think the hockey guys are the best group of guys. You get along with everybody, I’ve made some friends already.” Playing with friends is what Setoguchi loves about the sport. He had a chance to do just that during the lockout last season when he became the first NHL player to sign an ECHL contract with the Ontario Reign, the Winnipeg Jets’ ECHL affiliate.
“I JUST TRY TO PLAY AN UP AND DOWN GAME AND GET TO THE NET, WIN PUCK BATTLES, AND TRY TO SCORE. THAT’S MY GAME, TO TRY TO BE A TOP SIX FORWARD THAT PLAYS A BIT RUGGED, AND USE MY SPEED TO CREATE SOME HAVOC.” “I had a chance to play with three of my friends from home that were playing in the East coast there. I hadn’t played with them since Peewee or Bantam,” Setoguchi said with a smile. “So I got to go down and play with three of my good friends who I hadn’t played with in 9 or 10 years. That was something that was fun and I really enjoyed that a lot. Getting a chance to play with those guys when I was a kid, and now when I’m older and pro, it was fun.” This year, however, Setoguchi will be playing against the friends he made in Minnesota, starting with the Jets first regular season game against the Wild October 10, at XCel Energy Center. “It’s always fun to go back and play your friends,” he said. “Our main goal is to make the playoffs. When we play those guys it’s going to be fun, but it’s also going to be competitive. That’s kind of how it is.”

As for the new friends he now plays with in Winnipeg, Setoguchi is leaving it to the coaching staff to decide who his line mates will be. “That’s what training camp is for. You come in and play and find the matches, and throughout the course of the year, things change quite a bit,” Setoguchi said. “There’s always injuries, always guys playing better. Just come in, play, and do what you can control. If you do that, you should be alright.” “Sometimes you have to play. You can go out and play and do practices, but when you get in a game you get used to it. Finding chemistry is a hard thing to do. It shouldn’t be too hard when you have that many great players up front. Just a matter of mixing and matching and seeing what fits best.” General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, saw a great fit in Setoguchi and hopes he will find instant chemistry will his future linemates, whoever they may be. “He fits in well into the age demographic of our team,” said Chevy. “It’ll be up to Claude Noel to decide if he’s the guy to compliment Kane. He’s got a good shot and has scored at the NHL level. He’s a good skater and has a good mind for the game.” Setoguchi expressed excitement in the possibility of playing with Evander Kane, but is happy to play anywhere and understands he must earn his ice-time, like everyone else. “You never know what will happen until you get the chance,” he said. “But if I do get that opportunity it would be pretty exciting, he’s a really special player and a really electric player.” As far as individual goals go, Setoguchi says he doesn’t have anything specific, like besting his career high of 31 goals in a season, in mind. “My goal is to come in, play the best hockey I can, and do what I can control,” he said. “Personal goals are personal goals, but this organization is trying to get into playoffs and trying to win hockey games. So that’s basically the main focus for everybody.” 63

DNO
onnection BY RHÉANNE MARCOUX
Amidst the media scrums, post-practice chatter, and clatter of lunch plates, Ondrej Pavelec and Michael Frolik stand off to the side, reminiscing on their childhood growing up together in Kladno, Czech Republic, and the whirlwind careers that have lead them here to Winnipeg. Years later, the two best friends are about to slip on the same NHL jerseys for the very first time.

“I was very excited when I heard the news, but not him probably,” chuckled Pavelec, teasing his friend. But Frolik, who was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks June 30, 2013, is quick to correct him. “It was a bit of a shock for me at first, but I knew he was here,” admitted the 25 year-old Stanley Cup champion. “We had talked about it before, and we had said it would be pretty cool if we could someday play together. It actually happened so we’re pretty excited,” smiled Frolik. “I’m babysitting now!” chimed in Pavelec, laughing as he pats his friend on the back. “He’s taking care of me, I’m staying at his place,” explained Frolik. “He knows everyone here so he introduced me to the guys and the training staff. He’s a great guy and I have so much fun with him.” “He’s a care-free kind of guy. But he likes to be alone, he likes his privacy,” said Frolik, laughing and giving Pavelec a friendly shove. “So I think I gotta leave pretty soon from his house.” Playing for the same NHL team was a dream neither player had ever allowed himself to even imagine. “The dream was just to play in the NHL, it’s hard to say it was a dream. We figured it was a pretty far shot,” said Pavelec. 68
But when the Jets goaltender found out his friend was really on his way to Winnipeg, he told him everything he could about the city to convince him he’d love it. “The first thing I said was that the fans are unbelievable here,” said Pavelec. “They know hockey, they care about hockey, and they support the team even when you’re losing. That’s why you play.” But Pavelec wasn’t the only one with insight on Winnipeg. Captain of the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg native, Jonathan Toews, also had some recommendations. “He told me there’s an Earl’s and Moxie’s…” started Frolik, laughing. “He was just joking, we only talked for a few minutes and he wished me luck and said hockey is great here and the crowd is great so I can’t wait.” Playing against his former team in the new Central Division is also something the right-winger is looking forward to. “Obviously you want to beat them, they traded me so I want to show them they made a mistake. But you want to beat everybody, so it won’t be any different,” shrugged Frolik.

But Pavelec isn’t so modest about his friend’s talents. “He’s a little bit shy,” he chuckles. A 2006 first round draft pick by the Florida Panthers, Frolik started his career with the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL, much like Pavelec, who had signed with Cape Breton a year earlier. From there he went on to play 3 seasons with the Panthers before being traded to the Blackhawks in 2010. He began his NHL career with two consecutive 21-goal seasons. “He (Frolik) won the cup last year. He’s been in the league for 5-6 years now so he knows what it takes to be on top. He can play wherever the coach wants him to play. He can be on the penalty kill, that’s one of the reasons Chicago won the cup last year (Frolik accumulated 10 points in 23 games during the Hawks’ Cup run), and he can still be on the power play. He’s the player we need,” said Pavelec. The two Czechs live together, play together, and are inseparable off the ice. The only thing missing is the true best friend handshake. The duo tried a few combinations, but ended up bent over in laughter. “I never scored (when we were kids) so we didn’t have a handshake…” explains Pavelec. “I didn’t really score either!” laughs Frolik. “Maybe we’ll do something before the games. It’s hard to go high five the goalie when you score at the other end of the ice…” “It would be a little awkward if he scored and skated right to me for a high five!” agrees Pavelec, deciding instead on a pre-game ritual to be choreographed before the start of the season. 71
