SUPPORTING YOUTH IN MANITOBA Every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their physical, intellectual and social potential. Not all children have the same opportunities to participate in sports and recreational programming. Make the sport of hockey and the summer camp experience more accessible to youth by removing barriers that prevent kids from participating in organized sport and enjoying outdoor adventures as no child should be left on the sidelines. In addition, ensure children are taught coping skills to assist with their mental health and wellbeing by equipping them with tools to deal with current and future changes and challenges. By supporting a child in their academic, camp or hockey endeavors, you help ensure that no child gets left on the sidelines. You can donate to support youth by clicking on Make A Donation on the website ‘s top-left menu. All donations will receive a tax receipt. Empower potential by making kids feel good about themselves and making them believe that they can achieve anything!

Established in 1930, Camp Manitou is a summer camp and year-round outdoor recreation facility located five minutes outside of Winnipeg. With its forests, large grass playing field, and the surrounding Assiniboine River, Camp Manitou’s 28 acres accommodate a wide range of activities and educational programming that challenge campers, build confidence, and create memories. Camp Manitou is the perfect environment for youth to step out of the everyday, connect with nature, recharge, and find balance. Outdoor programming is delivered with the goal of being accessible, affordable, and inclusive for

Manitoba children, youth, and community groups from diverse social and economic backgrounds and with varying abilities. At Camp Manitou everyone belongs. It’s a place where, regardless of socioeconomic background, youth are empowered to learn and grow, build self-confidence, and develop physical and intellectual skillsets that cultivate leadership, citizenship, and equip Manitoba’s youth for a bright and successful future. Learning through experience in the outdoors can be like discovering a whole new world.

Since assuming the operations of camp in 2014, the True North Youth Foundation continues to build on Camp Manitou’s legacy as a safe, inclusive, and encouraging community for youth, regardless of socio-economic challenges. Since 2014, camper days have gone from 5,373 to more than 17,800 in 2019. Past fundraising and programgenerated surpluses have funded more than $6.3 million in capital improvements at Camp Manitou in the same time span. While these additions have made it possible to deliver quality programming and accommodate more campers, Camp Manitou has reached its peak at a 200 camper per day capacity and the demand from community groups and individuals continues to grow. Dedicated to welcoming as many Manitoba youth of all ages to benefit from enriching camp experiences, the True North Youth Foundation has embarked on an ambitious and exciting expansion plan. The 11-acre expansion project at Camp Manitou will accommodate as many as 400 campers per day as well as enhance programming for campers ages 12 to 17. Camp Manitou will be home to a new 10,000-square-foot lodge and 2.6-acre custom-made lake, and will offer new year-round activities geared toward teens, including canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and beach volleyball. These new additions have all been designed to create opportunities for young people to take risks, connect with others and develop skills which will allow them to gain confidence and be contributing members of their communities. Thanks to a significant donation by True North Sports + Entertainment ownership and the generous support of existing donors, $17 Million of Camp Manitou’s $20 million improvement project has already been raised. We are reaching out to friends, partners, and the general community to raise the remaining $3 million to accelerate the completion of the project. We invite you to become part of the fabric of Camp Manitou with your pledge toward Camp Manitou’s expansion. For more information, please visit: TNYF.ca/ManitouExpansion

WINNIPEG JETS HOCKEY ACADEMY The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) is a sports-based program offering at-risk youth the opportunity to be part of a team environment, learn new skills, and benefit from academic supports and mentorship that will help them grow and thrive in the program, in school, and beyond. Through hockey, the program aims to increase school attendance and high school graduation rates within socially and economically challenged schools in Winnipeg. Multifaceted programming includes guest speakers, field trips, after-school sessions, tutoring, and life-skills development that prepare students for their future. Students enter the program as early as in Grade 2 and benefit from successive programming themed for their age group through to graduation. In 2020, the WJHA celebrated the graduation of 40 student athletes, marking the third year of graduates who have journeyed through the entire WJHA program. Graduates who might have otherwise struggled to stay in school are excelling in academics, being awarded scholarships, and pursuing post-secondary education or gaining employment through the skills they have acquired in the program.
