The Jets made 11 roster cuts on Monday, reducing the training camp roster to two goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 16 forwards. Winnipeg went 6-2-1 against the Flames last season, including 3-0-1 in the four contests at Canada Life Centre. With the Jets finishing the pre-season on the road and playing their first three games of the regular season on the road, Winnipeg doesn’t play at Canada Life Centre again until Oct. 21 in their home opener against the Anaheim Ducks. The Jets are fourth in the NHL during the pre-season with a 93.2% (14-for-15) penalty kill percentage.

Pierre-Luc Dubois paced the Jets with three shots. Nathan Beaulieu had a team-high four hits. Jansen Harkins had the best night by a Jets player in the face-off circle, winning five of six face-offs. Mikhail Berdin stopped 30 of 33 shots in his lone start of the pre-season.

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff made two trades during the off-season to bolster the team’s defensive unit, acquiring Brenden Dillon from the Washington Capitals and Nate Schmidt from the Vancouver Canucks. Dillion, who was acquired for a pair of second-round draft picks, is entering his 11th NHL season after going undrafted. He enters the regular season having played 654 games with the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, and Washington Capitals. Schmidt, who was acquired for a third-round draft pick, is entering his 10th season after also not being drafted. He’s appeared in 450 games with Washington, Vegas and Vancouver. The Jets also signed four forward free agents, including 10-season NHL veteran Riley Nash.

The Jets begin their season by playing six of their first eight games on the road, including five in California. Winnipeg opens the campaign on Oct. 13 at Anaheim before playing San Jose on Oct. 16 and Minnesota on Oct. 19. The Jets host Anaheim on Oct. 21 in the team’s home opener. After playing mostly on the road in October, the Jets start November with a seven-game homestand from Nov. 2-16. The Jets longest road trip of the season is five games from Jan. 29-Feb. 27, which is interrupted by the all-star and Olympic break. After playing in the all-Canadian North Division last season, the Jets return to the Central Division this season for 26 games, as the division now numbers eight teams with the addition of the Arizona Coyotes. January is the busiest month, with the Jets playing 15 games, six at home and nine on the road. Winnipeg plays 11 back-to-backs this season: nine feature a pair of road games and two are consecutive games at Canada Life Centre. Tuesday is the busiest day for the Jets with the team playing 17 times, including four straight Tuesdays in March. The Jets play two straight games versus an opponent only once, a home-and-home set against their 2021 Stanley Cup Playoff First Round opponent, the Edmonton Oilers, Nov. 16 at Canada Life Centre and Nov. 18 at Rogers Place. The Jets must wait until Dec. 9 to play the NHL’s newest team, the Seattle Kraken, at Climate Pledge Arena before hosting them on Jan. 8 and Apr. 13.

The Jets swept the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs in earn the first sweep in franchise history. The final three games were decided in overtime, including Game 4 that went to triple overtime. In the second round, the Jets were swept by the Montreal Canadiens to end their season. Kyle Connor led the Jets in scoring in the playoffs with three goals and seven points in eight games. Of the 22 skaters that appeared in a playoff game, 18 had at least a point and 13 scored a goal. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck posted a 2.23 goalsagainst average and .931 save percentage in playing all eight games.
