TONIGHT’S OPPONENT: WINNIPEG JETS The San Jose Sharks (7-4-1, 15 pts) face off against the Winnipeg Jets for the third and final time this season. The Jets will be the first Western Conference team to complete their season series with the Sharks. San Jose is 2-0-0 against Winnipeg this season, with wins at home on Oct. 16 (4-3) and Oct. 30 (2-1, OT). Winnipeg is in the midst of a seven game homestand, their longest of the season, with games still to play against Los Angeles on Nov. 13 and Edmonton on Nov. 16. All-time, San Jose is 23-9-2-3 (.689) against Winnipeg and 12-2-1-2 (.794) when playing in Winnipeg, good for their highest points percentage against any team and highest road points percentage against any team. UPCOMING MILESTONES Timo Meier: 1 point from 200 NHL points; 7 goals from 100 NHL goals Erik Karlsson: 5 games played from 800 NHL games played Marc-Edouard Vlasic: 7 games played from 1,100 NHL games played Nick Bonino: 7 games played from 700 NHL games played Matt Nieto: 8 assists from 100 NHL assists James Reimer: 9 games played from 400 NHL games played RECENT MILESTONES Adin Hill (11/9): First NHL point (assist) Santeri Hatakka (11/9): First NHL point (assist) Artemi Kniazev (11/4): NHL Debut Ryan Merkley (11/2): First NHL goal Santeri Hatakka (10/30): NHL Debut Ryan Merkley (10/30): NHL Debut TERRIFIC TANDEM Adin Hill stopped 37-of-38 shots on Nov. 9 against Calgary to pick up his fourth win of the season. The six-foot-six netminder also recorded his first two NHL career assists in the game to become the second goaltender in franchise history to record two points in a game (other: Vesa Toskala, Feb. 3, 2007 vs CHI) and the 14th goaltender in NHL history to record two assists on the road. Only four other goaltenders in League history have made 37 or more
saves and tallied two assists. Hill also became the third Sharks goaltender to record wins in each of his first three appearances with the club (others: Martin Jones, Nolan Schaefer) per NHL PR. James Reimer is third in save percentage (.946) and first in goals against average (1.60) among League goaltenders with more than one game played. No goaltender in franchise history with five or more games played has posted a better save percentage (.950), goals-against-average (1.54) or goals against (seven) through the first ten games of a season. Reimer's .941 save percentage and 1.61 goalsagainst-average in 14 regular season games in a Sharks uniform leads all franchise goaltenders with more than ten games played. ROOKIE CONTRIBUTIONS San Jose leads the league in rookie goals (nine, tied), number of rookies to play games (ten), number of rookie defensemen to play games (five) and number of players to make their NHL debuts (six). Among League rookies, Jonathan Dahlen sits tied-third in points (eight; 6g, 2a) and is tied-first in plus-minus (plus-five). Dahlen paces all League rookies in game-winning goals (two) and became the third Sharks skater ever to record two or more game winning goals within their first ten NHL career games (others: Marco Sturm - 3 GWG, Joe Pavelski - 2 GWG). Jasper Weatherby is first among League rookies with at least 50 faceoffs taken in faceoff percentage (54.6%). Weatherby went 9-for-12 (75%) in the faceoff dot on Nov. 4 against St. Louis and has won 50% or more of his faceoffs in seven of the last eight games. William Eklund recorded four points (4a) in nine games with the team before being reassigned to Djurgardens IF of the SHL on Nov. 5. Nicolas Meloche leads all Sharks rookies in time on ice per game with 17:41. THRIVING BEFORE THANKSGIVING As of Nov. 10, Brent Burns leads all League defensemen in scoring for the month of November with seven points (1g, 6a) through four games. Burns also ranks second among NHL blueliners in time on ice per game (27:55) and is top five in five-on-five points-per-sixty minutes (2.97) despite starting in the offensive zone on just 39.1% of his shifts (45th lowest in the league) in the month of November. SUPER MARIO Mario Ferraro had a career-long three game point streak (1g, 3a) from Nov. 2 - 6. The 23-year-old defenseman has five points (1g, 4a) in the first twelve games of the season, his most through the first 12 games of a season in his career. Ferraro sits second in time on ice per game (25:15) and shorthanded time on ice per game (2:16) among club skaters and ranks third in the league in even-strength time on ice per game (22:26) and time on ice per game (27:49) in the month of November. The alternate captain played a game-high and career-high 31:12 on Nov. 6 against New Jersey and is one of four League skaters to play 30 or more minutes in a game this season. MERKLEY MANIA Ryan Merkley tallied his first NHL career goal on Nov. 2 against Buffalo. In doing so, Merkley became the sixth defenseman in franchise history to score their first NHL career goal within their first two NHL career games (others: Pat MacLeod in 1992, Marcus Ragnarsson in 1996, Brad Stuart in 2000, Matt Carle in 2006 and Mike Moore in 2011). The 2018 first round selection ended the night with two shots on net and a tied-team-high plus-three rating. Ryan Merkley played a career-high 18:04 of time on ice on Nov. 4 against St. Louis. Nick Merkley notched assists on Nov. 2 and 6 and recorded his first goal in a Sharks uniform on Nov. 4. MODEL OF CONSISTENCY Since being named the team’s general manager on May 13, 2003, Doug Wilson has strategically built the San Jose Sharks into one of the NHL’s top franchises through strong drafting, shrewd trades and timely free agent signings. In his 19 seasons in charge of the Sharks hockey department, Wilson has guided the team to its most successful era since the franchise’s inception, capturing a Presidents’ Trophy (2009), five Pacific Division titles, advancing to the Western Conference Final on five occasions (2004, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2019) and appearing in the Stanley Cup Final (2016). In his tenure as general manager, no other franchise has more wins than the Sharks (738): RANK
