2022 winnipeg jets pre-season Game Notes

HOW IT STARTED

+ The Jets were shut out 4-0 by the Edmonton Oilers on the road on Sunday to open their 2022 pre-season schedule.

+ David Rittich made 26 saves in the loss.

+ Saku Maenalanen led Winnipeg with four shots, while also having five hits in his first time donning a Jets uniform.

+ Pierre-Luc Dubois won nine of his 15 face-offs.

+ Logan Stanley paced the Jets with 10 hits.

EXHIBITION SLATE

+ Winnipeg’s all-Canadian pre-season schedule includes a homeand-home with Edmonton and the Calgary Flames, while the Ot tawa Senators visit Canada Life Centre on Tuesday and Winnipeg travels to Montreal to take on the Canadiens on Thursday.

+ The Jets are playing six pre-season games for the second consecutive season after playing seven pre-season games in each of the previous eight seasons.

NEW STAFF

+ The Jets announced Rick Bowness as the team’s head coach on July 3. He most recently served as head coach of the Dallas Stars from Dec. 10/19 until the end of the 2021-22 season. The Monc ton, N.B. native led the Stars to an 89-62-25 record in 176 regular season games and a trip to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.

+ Scott Arniel is the team’s new associate coach, while Brad Lauer and Marty Johnston serve as assistant coaches. Arniel was most recently with the Washington Capitals, while Brad Lauer is coming off a WHL championship as the head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings and Marty Johnston was promoted from the Manitoba Moose.

+ Assistant coach Wade Flaherty returns to guide the team’s goaltenders.

ON THE DOCKET

+ The Jets open their season on home ice at Canada Life Centre on Friday, Oct. 14 when they welcome the New York Rangers to town before heading out on a three-game road trip against Western Conference rivals Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Vegas Golden Knights from Oct. 17-20.

+ Other highlights of the home schedule include Patrik Laine and the Columbus Blue Jackets coming to Winnipeg on Dec. 2. Former head coach Paul Maurice, after nine seasons as the Jets bench boss, brings his new team - the President Trophy winning Florida Panthers - to Canada Life Centre on Dec. 6.

+ The longest homestand of the season is the final one on the schedule, which spans five games from Mar. 31-Apr. 10.

+ Winnipeg doesn’t play from Jan. 31-Feb. 10, as the NHL All-Star Weekend takes place on Feb. 3-4 in Florida, followed by the club’s five-day player break.

+ January also features the Jets’ longest road trip of the campaign, as they will play five straight contests away from Manitoba from Jan. 17-24.

+ December is the team’s busiest month, with the Jets playing 16 games in total – nine at home and seven on the road. Winnipeg’s first 15 road games of the season are against Western Confer ence teams.

+ The Jets first visit to the Eastern Conference is not until back-toback games on Dec. 22-23 at Boston and Washington.

+ Winnipeg plays 13 back-to-backs this season: eleven are consecutive games as the visiting team and two feature a game at Canada Life Centre and a game on the road.

ABOUT LAST SEASON

+ Winnipeg went 23-15-3 at home last season, which ranked 15th in the NHL with 49 points.

+ The Jets won their last four home games to close out the season, outscoring their opposition 15-5 in the four games.

+ Winnipeg finished the season 12-5-11 in one-goal games.

+ The Jets had five shutouts last season, which is two shy of the franchise record.

+ Kyle Connor finished third in franchise history with 47 goals last season. The most goals in a season in franchise history is 52, which Ilya Kovalchuk did in 2005-06 and 2007-08. Connor passed Patrik Laine (44 in 2017-18) for the most goals in a season since relocation.

+ Connor ended last season fourth in franchise history with 93 points this season, which is the most since relocation. It’s the eighth time in franchise history a player has reached the 90-point mark in a season.

ON THE FARM

+ The Manitoba Moose finished second in the AHL’s Central Division with a record of 41-24-7.

+ The Moose went to Game 5 against the Milwaukee Admirals in their North Division semifinal series, but lost 2-1 to lose the series.

+ Mikey Eyssimont paced Manitoba during the regular season with 42 points (18G, 24A) in 58 games.

+ Declan Chisholm led the Moose in scoring in the playoffs with seven points (2G, 5A) in five games.

+ The Moose begin their 2022-23 season on Oct. 15 at Canada Life Centre when they host the Rockford IceHogs in the first of two games.

MEDIA CREDENTIALS

+ Media that have been granted a season credential can pick up their credential at Gate 4 at Canada Life Centre prior to any pre-season game.

+ Single-game credentials can be applied for through the Jets media website (jetsmedia.ca) and will be emailed to the requested individual prior to the game. Single-game requests must be made 48 hours prior to the game.

GAME ACCESS

+ The Matt Frost Media Centre on the event level of Canada Life Centre and the press box on the fifth level are open to the media three hours prior to game time. Media are asked to enter the building through Gate 4 and proceed to either location.

+ The Jets dressing room is open the media following each game.

+ Head coach Rick Bowness’ media availability takes place inside the Matt Frost Media Centre following each game.

+ A pre-game meal is available to purchase in the press box. Media are also able to purchase food from any of the concessions on the concourses Canada Life Centre.

TRAINING CAMP NOTES

Camp roster

• The Senators 2022 23 camp roster includes 59 players: Six goaltenders, 20 defencemen and 33 forwards.

• The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators’ draft. Twenty seven (27) players were Ottawa selections in NHL drafts, 13 players were signed as free agents, nine players were obtained in trades, four players are on amateur tryouts, three players are signed to American Hockey League contracts, two players are on respective professional tryout agreements and one player was claimed on waivers.

• Twenty five (25) players appeared in at least one game with the Senators during the 2021 22 season while another eight players dressed for other NHL clubs. Of the 26 players who were invited to the recent rookie camp and tournament, 22 players were invited to training camp including four participants who are on amateur tryouts

• The Senators 2021-22 season training camp roster included roster includes 62 players: Seven goaltenders, 20 defencemen and 35 forwards of which 28 players were selected by Ottawa in drafts.
