Divisions: lopment prominence,
Larry’s ultimate goal is to give each player the opportunity to fully develop to go to the next level and to enjoy the sport of hockey and the journey along the way. Larry is a certified Hockey Canada coach (High Performance) with over 28 years of hockey development and coaching experience at many levels within minor hockey, including the University of Manitoba Bison Men and currently the St. Mary’s Flames Prep Female. In 2010, Larry was pleased to join with the MTS Iceplex and offer the Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp programs at the beautiful facility. Moving forward, Larry continues to provide exceptional development opportunities and direction under the Jets Hockey Development banner. same great programs! same head coach! Larry founded Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp in 1988 and as the Director, Larry expanded programming to include development opportunities for all playing levels. The Northwestern family of programs included spring training, summer day camps, specialty camps for Junior and AAA players, comprehensive and dedicated female programs, school-based Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs and in-season winter training academies. Additionally, Larry created the Boys of the North Prospects Camp for many elite players from throughout North America to attend the camp and showcase their talents for numerous Canadian and American Junior A teams. As a result each spring, Larry has assembled and coached the Boys of the North and the Girls of the North teams to further their development through a structured program of on ice skills and off-ice conditioning that culminates in elite hockey tournaments. As a direct result of his mentorship and programs, Larry has proudly watched many of his young players go on to realize their own hockey goals at the highest levels. Larry’s greatest coaching pleasures are to see his players realize their successes and dreams. Whether it is the initiation player mastering a two-foot stop, a peewee player perfecting their shooting accuracy or a player hearing their name on the draft list, Larry shares in the excitement of these successes for all players. Larry’s passion for coaching drives him to provide positive and innovative support to players of all ages as he mentors players and teams and families. During Winnipeg winters, when he is not coaching or running a camp, Larry and wife Kathy spend their time as many Winnipeg hockey parents do - by transporting to and supporting and cheering their three children at various rinks around the city.

A High Performance program designed to build the continuum of development for current AAA or Prep male and female players offering two distinct player training components: power skating & edge control and skills & tactical Development. Participants will maintain a development focus and will be challenged to enhance their power on ice, physically and tactically. Positive implementation of skills in game-like situations during each session will enforce learning and progress development. i) power skating & edge control 9.75 hours - Directed by Jeff sveinson Many highly skilled players get to the pro-level but still need to improve their skating. Developing good skating mechanics and strong edge control is a fundamental step in any player’s development. Often this is overlooked because strong athletes have the natural ability for skating; however, we recognize that strong skating skills are crucial to develop an elite hockey player. Skating mechanics and edge control require repetitive training. The AAA Spring Training program will offer the instruction and drills to raise a player’s skating skills and master a higher level of skating mechanics and edge control. • Proven on-ice exercises for skating mechanics • Dedicated drills to address weaknesses • Assessment of player’s weaknesses in skating technique • Proven, repetitive drills to develop stronger edge control ii) skills & tactical Development 9.75 hours - Directed by larry Bumstead Sessions are designed with the purpose to enhance a player’s power on the ice, physically and tactically with an up-tempo progression of advanced skills and tactical development to increase a players’ tactical understanding. • Over-speed skill training • Attack, Support, Recover principles • Assertive 1 – 1 puck skills • Contact confidence • Individual tactics, defensive & offensive • Introductory combination team tactics • Integrated Team Play tactics • Age appropriate Read & React skills • European Flow Drills • Individual & Team Play tactics GoaltenDer Development – aaa spring training Goaltender Development will be under the direction of the MTS Ice Lab staff.A High Performance Goaltender training program designed to maximize a goaltender’s skill, technique and tactical understanding with an emphasis on developing speed and explosiveness.
