SERIES NOTES TOP 2

FINDING THE POWER IN NASHVILLE

This series is a meeting of the top two teams during the regular season in terms of points…Nashville won the Presidents’ Trophy after earning 117 points…Winnipeg was three points back with 114 points…This is the fifth playoff series since 1990 that pits the top two teams from the regular season against each other in the playoffs… It’s the second time in as many seasons that the top two teams play each other in the second round, as the Washington Capitals played the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.

In their last six regular season games in Nashville, the Jets are 6-for-17 (35.3%) on the power play…Winnipeg has scored a power play goal in four consecutive games at Bridgestone Arena…Defenceman Tyler Myers has three power play assists in the six games.

FIRST SERIES WIN

GOALS GALORE The Jets and Predators combined for 42 goals in five games in the regular season… The Jets scored 20 of the 42 goals, which was the most they scored against any team in the NHL this season…It marked the sixth time since relocation the Jets scored 20 goals or more against a single team during the regular season…The 22 goals Winnipeg allowed to Nashville was the most the team surrendered to any team during the regular season.

SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE This series is a meeting between the NHL’s best home team and visiting team during the regular season...The Winnipeg Jets finished the regular season with the best home record in the NHL at 32-7-2, while the Nashville Predators proved they travel well, as they own the league’s best road record this season with an impressive 25-9-7 mark...The last time the team with the best home record faced the team with the best road record in a playoff series was 2015 when the Tampa Bay Lightning, with a league best 32-8-1 home record, took down the New York Rangers, top road record at 28-11-2, in a seven-game series in the Eastern Conference Final.

CHANGING THE TUNE The Jets franchise is 6-12-2 all-time at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, including 4-7-2 since relocating to Winnipeg in 2011…The Jets have been outscored 70-49 in the 20 games in Nashville…The franchise has been more successful in Nashville as of late by earning points in three of their last six games in the country music capital.

FEAR THE WHITE OUT Bell MTS Place has not been kind to opposing teams this season, as the Jets finished the regular season with the best home record in the NHL at 32-7-2…The Jets won their last nine games of the regular season in front of their home crowd and all three games in the first round against Minnesota to push the home winning streak to a combined 12 games…The last time the Jets lost at home was Feb. 27/18 against Nashville…The Jets are 5-3-0 against the Predators in the last eight regular season meetings at Bell MTS Place.

STRIKING FIRST The Jets scored the first goal in all five games against Minnesota…During the regular season, the Jets were 37-4-6 when scoring the game’s first goal…Dating back to the regular season, Winnipeg has scored the first goal of the game in nine consecutive contests (8-1-0)...The Jets scored the first goal of the game in two of the five regular season meetings with the Predators this season and split those two contests.

The Jets earned their first series victory in the first round against Minnesota…Previous to this season, the franchise had only reached the playoffs in 2007 and 2015… They were swept in both occurrences…The last time a Winnipeg NHL team won a playoff series was in 1987.

FEARLESS LEADER Jets head coach Paul Maurice is coaching in the postseason for the sixth time in his career…Maurice is 29-29 behind the bench in playoff games, with the highlight of his postseason success coming in 2002 when he coached the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Final…The Game 1 win against Minnesota was his first playoff victory since 2009 when he coached Carolina.

BATTLE OF THE VEZINA FINALISTS This series features two of the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender during the regular season in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck and Nashville’s Pekka Rinne…Hellebuyck, who was tied for the NHL lead in appearances during the regular season with 67, went 44-11-9 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .924 save percentage…Rinne went 42-13-7 during the regular season with a 2.31 goals-against average and .927 save percentage…In the first round of the playoffs, Hellebuyck had a 1.93 goals-against average and .924 save percentage with two shutouts…Rinne had a 2.60 goals-against average and .909 save percentage and a shutout in the first round against Colorado.
