Introduction

Congratulations on your new role at Winn Group. We are delighted you are joining us! This guide is going to cover the information you may need before you start with us!

Before Your First Day

In this section we are going to pinpoint a few things that we require from you before your first day!

You will have received your Contract and Offer Letter via email. Please sign this and return this to us, if you need a physical copy please let us know before your first day!

We are also required by Law to do a Right to Work in the UK check. You will be invited to a drop in session where this will be scanned.

We accept the following documents:

Option 1: British Passport

Option 2: Proof of National Insurance Number and Birth Certificate

Option 3: Foreign Passport and Share Code

Your First Day

10.30am

Induction begins in our Brinkburn Street Office.

Picture Time!

Once settled we take your photograph for your staff badge. Icebreaker and Introduction

We will do an icebreaker as a group and then a member of HR will take you through the first half of your induction. Compliance Talk

Then you will meet a member of the Compliance Team who will take you through this part of the induction.

Health and Safety Tour

You will then be taken through the building by our Health and Safety team, they will give you a tour of the facilities

Lunch

You will get an hour for lunch! There is a canteen available with microwaves and fridges if you would like to bring your own food.

Meet your Team!

At 2pm you will be collected from the Brinkburn Reception and taken to your department where you should meet your new manager and some of your team!

E-Training

You will also be asked to complete some online Flick training regarding Compliance, Data Protection, Fraud and more.

Induction Forms

Once you are logged on to your new computer you will be asked to complete some general HR forms. These are really important and include things such as Payroll, Equality and Diversity and more!

Home Time!!

And just like that your First Day is over! You’ll head home at about 5pm.

Staff Policies

There are some important policies that we are going to highlight before your First Day. We do go over these in more detail in the induction but if you have any questions you can let us know!

Dress Code - ‘Dress for the Day’

Our dress code is Dress for the Day! This is smart casual wear, like jeans, jumper, t-shirt, smart trainers etc.

We do ask no gym clothing, football tops or anything deemed inappropriate to be worn at work.

If you are unsure you can always dress more formal and then get the feel for what people around you are wearing too!

Salary - Payday!

You will be paid on the last working day of the month. If this falls on a weekend you will be paid the Friday before. This will be paid directly into your bank account. You will also be told if you will be paid for the first month in your induction as this depends on when in the month it falls.

Mobile Phone and Internet Usage

Mobile Phones should be kept on silent and away off your desk during working hours (except for your designated breaks). If you have an important call to take please let your manager know.

Emails and Internet should be used for work purposes only and Managers do have the right to access your emails or internet history. Any suspicious activity would be flagged by IT.

Leave of Absence

Annual Leave

Your entitlement will be stated on your contract. Our holiday year runs from 1st April until 31st March. If you have any prebooked holidays before you begin employment, let us know as soon as possible.

Appointments

Hospital appointments are paid either AM or PM half day as long as a hospital letter is provided.

Where possible, please try to organise GP or Dental appointments outside of your working hours. If that is unavoidable please let your line manager know and then can organise alternative arrangements.

Public Transport

Byker Metro station is across the road from our Brinkburn Street/Raby Walk offices.

Saxon House is a short walk from both Chillingham Road and Byker Metro stations.

To get to from the City Centre you would need to use Platform 3 from Monument Station. These run every day on average every 12 minutes.

You can also get to South Shields via Whitley Bay from Byker as well as to St James. These run on average every 12 minutes.

There are multiple buses which stop on Shields Road which is a 5 minute walk from both Brinkburn Street, Raby Walk and Saxon House.

Our nearest train station is Central Station. To access us from there you can either get the Metro to Monument and then change lines to Byker or walk to Monument and go to Platform 3 to Byker.

Brinkburn/ Raby Walk Car Parks

Rear Car Park

This gated car park is accessed via Corbridge Street. This is a locked car park, only accessible via a Paxton Badge Reader.

Parsons House Parking

Front Car Park

This gated car park is closest to Byker Metro. It is a locked car park, only accessible using a Paxton Badge Reader and has Intercom facilities.

For staff based at Parsons House, please note that parking at the Newcastle Shopping car park is subject to time restrictions. We recommend using the Brinkburn or Saxon car parks, or any of the alternative options outlined on this page.

Saxon Car Parks

Main Car Park

This is the only car park for this building which is for Winn Group use. The parking bays are allocated to each department and should be discussed with management to see how they allocate use.

Alternative Options

Off Street Parking

There is off street parking on a first come first served basis, this is for public use but it is free all day.

Algernon Road – Next to Rington’s Tea /Millers Auctioneers (Free parking 24/7 – No restrictions)

Conyers Road – Byker Wall – Across the Bypass (x4 Free parking car parks)

Byker Swimming pool and library – includes an overflow car park leading to McDonalds. Parking 8am -5pm first 3 hours are free, then 20p an hour after (Open to general public) Buzz Bingo – Bottom of Shield Road (No fees or restrictions 24/7 parking)
