CHARITY OF THE YEAR

It was established in August 2017 after six-year-old Bradley Lowery lost his fight to Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.

In 2013, his mum, Gemma, started a fundraising campaign to raise funds to get Bradley treatment in the USA, which was not available in the UK. The campaign was very successful and, with the support of thousands of people, raised over £1.3m and vital awareness for Neuroblastoma and childhood cancer in general. These donations provided the funding base for the charity.

MANAGEMENT TEAM CAPTAIN CHRIS DROUGHT

EVEN FAILURE WILL HAVE AN ECHO OF GLORY

Captain of the management team, Chris Drought, is drawing inspiration from one of the game’s greats as he seeks to drive his squad on to victory over the staff team.

The legendary Bill Shankly, a revered Liverpool manager, was once quoted as saying “some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that.”

And our FRT Technical and Complex Claims Supervisor Chris, has, well, to be honest, completely copied him!

But the sentiment portrays a side eager to triumph and hold their heads high the Monday after in the office.

“It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low,” said Drought.

“And we of the management team have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.

“Bragging rights is key. I don’t want to come into work on Monday suffering a defeat. It will feel worse than when those parttimers down the road got a very lucky victory against Newcastle.

“We need everyone to play with a smile on their face and give it their all.”

Offering the greatest 10-minute captain’s cameo the game has ever known, Drought, once again shamelessly lifting another quote, said: “I wouldn’t say I was the best captain in the business. But I’m in the top one.”

Focusing on the aim of the event, in conjunction with our charity of the year the Bradley Lowery Foundation, Chris was keen to point out the impact that illness, both on going and terminal, has on so many people.

and how closely it will have been felt by many across the business

“Not only have my immediate family, loved ones and very close colleagues been affected by the awfulness of such a cruel illness, I think everyone in the office will know somebody who has succumbed,” he added.

“I know I will certainly be thinking of Kerrie Scullion and her family, like many in FRT, on the night.

“If we all pull together, hopefully we can make some lives better by raising money for such a great charity.”

HALL CALLS FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS!

Ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash between a management team and a staff team, captain of the latter Alex Hall is demanding perfection. The First Response Team Training Officer will lead out the staff squad as they go in search of a victory that will send shockwaves through the company.

With talent in abundance, apparently, and a chance to impress, this side will be eager to start quickly and deliver consistency on their way to success over the management opposition.

STAFF TEAM CAPTAIN ALEX HALL

“I demand maximum effort, flawless execution of our game plan, and a united team spirit for this one crucial match,” said the captain.

Office bragging rights are up for grabs here.

“My job as captain is to bring leadership, motivation, and sense of unity to the team. Often referred to as the Consett Alan Pardew, I want to create fun and enjoyment; I can see Hugo Scott-Stuart delving into my tactical insight up to and during the game.”

The event itself is an ideal opportunity to bring our staff together and increase brand awareness of the Bradley Lowery

Foundation, our charity of the year that does incredible things to help children in desperate need of support.

“An event like this between Winn Group and the Bradley Lowery Foundation can be highly beneficial for both organisations in terms of raising money and awareness of the cause,” added Alex.

“Overall, a well-organised and publicised football match has the potential to raise significant funds and create lasting awareness.

“It can foster a sense of community and goodwill, benefiting both organisations and the people they aim to support.”
