Christopher Boffoli Amuse-Bouche October 29 – December 25, 2013 Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to present Amuse-Bouche, our second solo exhibition with Seattle artist, Christopher Boffoli. Please join us for the opening reception with the artist on Tuesday, October 29th, 6 – 8 pm. Marrying inspired photographs of real food with tiny people, Christopher Boffoli stages arrangements to create clever photographic vignettes. Boffoli’s palette includes handpainted German miniatures, artisan confections, fresh fruit, crisp vegetables and northwest crustaceans. His Lilliputian characters interact in everyday scenarios creating quirky, often darkly humorous storylines. Boffoli’s unique lens captures tongue-in-cheek moments of happiness, hope, adventure, pride, greed, menace, and solitude of little people in a mammoth world. Inspired by an unusual combination of magazine food photography and the 18th century fable “Gulliver’s Travels,” Boffoli’s fascination with the reoccurring cultural appeal of shrinking people in giant worlds is found throughout popular culture in both literature and cinema. What makes Boffoli’s photography so engaging is the approach towards mundane daily tasks and the humorous caption that informs each piece. For the tiny men hoisting the American flag in “Iwo Cupcake,” Boffoli adds, “No piece of territory is too small or strategically insignificant to claim for your country.” Nominated for the James Beard Award in 2012, Boffoli’s Big Appetites series has been featured in The Washington Post, National Public Radio, The Chew, The Huffington Post, Oprah.com, and in other media outlets internationally. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Boffoli’s newly launched first book, Big Appetites: Tiny People in a World of Big Food (Workman Publishing) is available through Winston Wachter Fine Art.

Tracy Rocca New Paintings October 29 – December 25, 2013 New Mexico based artist, Tracy Rocca, returns to Seattle this fall for her third solo-exhibition at Winston Wächter Fine Art. Please join us for the opening reception on Tuesday, October 29, from 6 – 8 pm. Rocca’s newest paintings revisit themes from her exhibition in New York, just prior to Hurricane Sandy. Rocca felt it important to reconnect with her paintings from that period. With her newest work she continues to explore her environment through highly saturated color field paintings, engaging the viewer to interact with the work, deciphering the familiar yet unspecified landscape. Her finely painted works act as a passageway from reality into a meditative space through her trademark brush stroke. These are expertly painted vibrant works inviting the viewer to approach the paintings on a cerebral level and lead with pure imagination. Rocca was raised in the Northwest and one can easily catch glimpses of the misty Cascade environment in her work. In her signature soft focus paintings, landscapes are shrouded in haze yet contain bold colors reflective of the vibrant flora one finds as seasons change. Rocca’s goal is to “create a place where the mind can rest” and she accomplishes this with uplifting hues that meld to a soft white, allowing the viewer to have an introspective experience with each piece. Rocca begins first with a location then makes a conscious effort to slow down and reveal each setting through her blurred lens. Using oil paint, walnut oil and mongoose brushes, each painting is softer than one would imagine possible having been created with a brush.
