Of Chinese Landscape painting, critics of the Ming Period claimed that among the six principles of painting, there is spirit-resonance and life-movement. It’s about tapping the life energy from the universe, because life inspires more life...always moving, pulsing, breathing. These impromptu, plain air works on paper were done on Wheaton Island, at golden hour when the sun rakes across the boulders, offering up dramatic rhythms amidst the crashing sea. These landscape abstractions are loose, free-play for me, full of discovery.
