Hello, I'm Joey of
Winter's Weather Knits I fell in love with the process of designing my own knits in 2018. I love experimenting with texture and unique methods of construction in my designs. My inspiration comes from personal life events and the world around me, each piece often with a back story
emphasizing the contrast between positive and negative, light and dark, and hopes and fears. Thank you for being a part of my creative journey.
The Sidekick This one goes out to all the partners in crime out there. Maybe it’s a “mommy and me“ connection, a commitment between you and your significant other, or that undeniable bond you have with your fur baby.
The Sidekick Cowlkerchief is a simple yet engaging knit design featuring vertical rows of Fisherman’s rib. Strategic increases and decreases create a snug cowl shape, with plenty of drape resembling a triangular shawl without all the hassle of loose ends!

Inclusivity Pattern grading is a stressful and time consuming task, but size
inclusivity is important. Heck, all inclusivity is important. Isn’t that what we learned in preschool?
In the past, I let inexperience stop me from creating garments for a wide range of body types. I let myself believe that as a small scale
designer, the chances of someone outside the XS - XL range wanting
to knit my design was very slim (no pun intended). As I’ve grown within the community, I’ve discovered that this is not the case. I set aside
hours of learning and playing with numbers to finally arrive at a shirt design adaptable from petite to plus. I strived to create something
with lots of customization options, from colour choices to variations in shape, because every human is different.
The end result is the Inclusivi-tee. It features a delicate eyelet shoulder seam, textured striping, and contrasting hems, with many options for customization. Complicatedly simple, or just simply complicated.

The Dreamwalker 3 years ago, I went to my first ever Knit City as an
attendee. Prior to that year, I was a closet knitter and
had absolutely no idea of the world I was missing out
on. I wore a rectangular shawl knit out of some cheap yarn, based on a stitch pattern I had found on the internet. Between rushes of invigoration, I felt an
awkward sensation of being watched… hovered over… touched...
To my surprise, my sixth sense was actually picking up the sensation of not one, but several pairs of senior ladies throughout the day ogling the pattern on my
shawl. It was as if their minds understood the social
rule of politely admiring from afar, and yet their bodies
couldn’t help but reach out to examine the design just a little closer.
3 years, multiple designs, and a KC (guest) vendor
position later, that stitch pattern has finally come to fruition in one of my most iconic designs-- the cowlkerchief.

The Recluse The year 2020 was a new beginning for me. Freshly
discharged from surgery follow-ups, I was finally putting the last two years behind me. It was supposed to be the year
everything returned to ‘normal’ but instead, 2020 became
“The Year of the Pandemic”. We were told to stay 2 metres
apart from others at all times, including our loved ones who
lived in different households. Non-essential businesses closed, and stores that remained open had bare shelves, so much so
that you couldn’t remember what was in the aisle you used to frequent in the not-so-distant past. The rest of the year is cancelled, and each of us transformed into The Recluse.
The cowl-shawl hybrid is still my favourite piece of knitwear.
Knit flat and on the diagonal, this design consists of textured lines criss-crossing to form little boxes of isolation. As you
travel through each section, lines sneak through as boxes open up, much like I hope our society will soon do.

The Friday Socks Me in bed, 9 hours post-surgery, staring at my elevated ankle on Friday the 13th: FRIDAY SOCKS.
The simple yet bold texture of twisted stitches adds a unique look to classic ribbed
socks. The twisted rib pattern runs mostly undisrupted through the length of the sock. Extra stretchy to fit comfortably around most feet, and easy to adapt to other sizes if needed.

Figmentum Last year was such a dream. The collection of ideas swirling around in my head somehow manifested
from my fingertips. One by one, they slithered out
like yarn from the inside of a yarn cake. And yet, it still feels like a reality that exists only in my imagination.
Sarah’s booth at Knit City 2019 felt very much like this dream state I’m in. As I floated through the booth, my eyes drifted towards these skeins of
OOAK hand-painted yarn. I took them home, and
within days they coaxed out a design. The twists of the stitch pattern and twist of the Moebius cowl
paired with this dreamy fade simply encapsulated my state of figmentum.

Crossing Point Criss-crossing stitches and triangle points, oh my! This year I’m delighted to be collaborating with more and more indie yarn producers, including the lovely West Coast Colour family. For the first time since I began designing, I’m really feeling like more than just a knitting hobbyist. It feels as though I’ve crossed over into a new realm of designing, and I’m loving every bit of it.

Celebration socks Sometimes life hits you with unexpected
challenges. For me in 2018, it was a broken
ankle. I had to learn to be still, and to accept help. But through the darkness came the opportunity to fully engage in my craft.
Although I was physically immobile, my design aspirations took great strides. These socks, inspired by my surgical scars, mark the
undertaking of a whole new journey, and the
celebration of getting up when life knocks you down.

The Cobbler Cap The Cobbler Cap is a worsted weight, slouchy beanie, rich in texture resembling historical cobblestone streets, or a warm blueberry cobbler. Using under one skein each of two
colours, the pattern boasts a deliciously detailed and intricate design, but is much simpler to make than expected. The stitch patterns used are a great way to introduce colourwork without the intimidation factor of stranded knitting.
