Many of you reading this probably don’t believe in God. You may think there is ‘something out there’ - but in all probability you wouldn’t be prepared to commit yourself to a belief in the personal God of the Bible - the one described as the God who made the world and everything in it. He created all the nations throughout the whole earth, decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and determined their boundaries. His purpose was for the nations to seek after him and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him - though he is not far from any one of us. The God who is a person - with personality - and who takes a real living interest in every one of us.

Pastoral Letter and Church Meetings simple. But the more I look at the world around me, the more I see personality in almost everything. Every day our adopted cat seems to demonstrate he’s not just a blob of fur but a creature with real personality. He ‘speaks’ with his miaow, with his eyes and with his insistence that he be scratched under the chin. Even the birds he stalks in the garden reveal individual characteristics. Watching the cat being scolded by a protective mother blackbird - and he running for the cover of the window sill from her rebuke - reminds me that even the smallest of creatures appear to be endowed with individuality and personality.

For many people that’s too specific, perhaps too frightening or possibly too

Of course I don’t want to give every worm or grub a name but the more I look at the world the more I can see the

mark of a person at work in creating it. That is exactly how Paul described God and his world to a highly educated Athenian audience in the passage from the book of Acts loosely quoted above - a real personal God who made us, a real personal God who continues to relate to us on a personal level every day. Maybe you don’t have a cat to watch or a garden with scolding birds - but there is a God who is not far from you; his purpose and desire is that you would reach out to him, seek for him and find him. He even sent his Son, Jesus, into this world to help you in that search - a real living personality who will introduce you to the real and living God. EXTRACTS FROM THE RATIFIED MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 6TH JUNE 2011 OF KEITH COMMUNITy COUNCIL

Presentation Tish Richford, team manager from the Criminal Justice Services gave a very informative talk about the Community Payback scheme which we have in Moray. She went on to explain the New Payback Orders the new name since February 2011 replaces previous probation orders and community service orders. Instead of community service it is now referred to as Community Payback Orders and Unpaid Work orders. There are two levels of order. Level one is 20 to 100 hours (three months) which are less serious offences Level two is 101 to 300 hours (six Months) for people who have committed serious assaults, fraud, etc. Offenders must start work within 7 days of the order being imposed. Most are signed up to doing at least two days of work. Offenders are supervised seven days a week. The team is based in Elgin with a workshop in Grampian Road where offenders make for example plant containers, garden picnic tables and benches. The examples of work in Moray were shown to members by means of photographs. The projects they have undertaken are environmental projects and community projects. The benefit to the community is that work is being done by offenders that may never be done otherwise. It ensures that the offender gives direct repatriation to the community that they live in. This work is used as an alternative to custody and is not a soft option. Research has shown that offenders are less likely to offend again in the future. Plaques are erected to say that projects have been done by offenders. The Senior task Supervisor can be contacted on 01343 557200. If offender does not participate order is returned to

the court. Offenders don’t go into the community that they offended in. A number of projects were spoken about that could be done by offenders in the Keith area. Members of KCC will make a list and email Tish. Correspondence There was correspondence about the Beatice Field - Shetland to Portgordon Windfarm. There will be an exhibition to which councilors will be invited to in the Longmore hall in the future. JM has received a cheque from the Phoenix group. A letter of thanks will be sent out. Community Councillors Updates CL - Roads and Rights of Way CL complained about the state of the pavements in Keith which need to be swept. The A96 has not been swept either which is BEARs duty. A man hole at Broad Lane is dirling and needs to be seen to by Scottish water SC said he would deal with it. Lorrys getting tyres on A96 at Darren Williams premises are causing an obstruction. Police would have to deal with this matter. Another police matter is cars that park on pavement on A96. Bridge of Haughs is still flooding. White lines have still to be painted on roads. Number of lights not working including the one outside the Royal (3 years ). CL will contact Chivas about rotten trees which are a danger at end of fife Keith. Lot of water collecting at bottom of Earlsmount an ongoing problem.GC has told BEAR about this. Union Bridge – Light not working but been reported. North Church – suggested that White lines be painted on slabs as there are step downs to pavement. MC – Signs and street furniture No update from MC. SC will see that the TARTAN Museum sign is taken

down. Two signs been taken down. JM thought they were being replaced. CC will see MC about this. Pictures on the old Coop building will be relocated somewhere else in the town as Coop undergoing a transformation. Peter Laing was interested in them going somewhere else in the town. Greigs – mess is getting worse. Viewfield – no progress on the house which was burnt down. Caravan Site – No progress. Chlorine in water still not rectified. MR – Cleansing No updates although SH mentioned St Rufus path leading down side of manse has been reported as having lot of debris and rubble lying there. GC seeing to this. Toilets are now open 24 hours in Keith and Fife Keith. GC – Gary is to keep on about the traffic lights at Tesco as numerous people are complaining that they are staying on too long again on the A96. People coming out of Tesco always seem to get priority. External Groups Updates Regeneration Partnership – SC said there was no update on whether the funding had gone through. Xmas Lights – There is a meeting on 8th June at Keith Community Centre. JM received a cheque from the Phoenix group and a letter of thanks will be sent to them. A.O.C.B. Keith Skatepark – June Simpson and JM are to go to a couple of meetings to guide the members there. Douggie MacPhee will attend as well. Next Meeting The next meeting of Keith Community Council will be on Monday 5th September 2011 at 7.00pm in Keith Sports and Community Centre.

One of the challenges of politics is trying to force yourself to take some time out and do something different. Being a bit of a foody, I have made some time for the garden and a bit of an effort at ‘grow

your own’ in terms of vegetables. I cannot profess to being any kind of expert gardener but it provides some relaxation and, hopefully, some tasty summer salads when I see how the small back garden crop has fared! Angus Robertson MP

I was very p l e a s e d recently to take part in the Moray Great Bike Ride, which saw cyclists of all abilities from across the region get on their bikes for charity. I surprised myself by feeling up for the whole course and even in a not too bad time! A big thank you to the organisers but also

especially to the participants. This year’s event raised funds for the North East Sensory Service, which provides support for people across Moray and the North East with visual or hearing impairment. A very worthwhile cause and and very worthwhile day out cycling through Moray’s fantastic scenery Richard Lochhead MSP

Chef’s Confidential Knockomie is fast attracting the walkers, the morning and afternoon coffee and tea customers. This cake is a very popular offering amongst those who want to relax, chat and catch up in a comfortable lounge, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We look forward to welcoming you soon, for a latte, cappucino, espresso, selection of teas and hot chocolate.

120g black treacle 110g golden syrup 110g dark muscovado sugar 230g self raising flour 1 tablespoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon mixed spice 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1tsp Bicarbonate of soda 120g butter diced 1 medium size firm pear 1 ball of crystallized stem ginger 280ml milk 1 large egg 1kg loaf tin lined

recipe

Pear Gingerbread Cake

1. Put the treacle and syrup into a small pan & heat on a gentle heat until thoroughly mixed, leave to cool. 2. Put the Muscovado sugar and milk in a small pan and heat on a gentle heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Once dissolved remove from heat and leave to cool until lukewarm. 3. Place the flour, spices, bicarbonate of soda and butter in to a bowl and with your fingers, or in a food processor, blend to fine breadcrumbs. 4. Peel and core the pear and dice, put to one side. Finely dice the stem ginger and leave aside. 5. Add the milk and sugar mix to the dry ingredients using a whisk to blend thoroughly. Repeat with the treacle and syrup mix, and beat the egg before adding this. Add the stem ginger. 6. Pour into the lined loaf tin and sprinkle the diced pear on the top. It will sink into the sponge whilst it's cooking. 7. Place in the centre of the oven at 180°C (350°F) Gas 4 for 45 minutes to 1 hour. It will be well risen and use a skewer to test the centre to check if it is cooked. It will be ready when the skewer comes out clean. Allow it to cool completely in the tin, before turning out. Enjoy either warm as a pudding with ice-cream or cream, or at room temperature with a cup of coffee or tea. Great for picnics too! Penny Ellis, Owner Knockomie Hotel, Forres tel: 01309 673146

Dreaming of...

...a city break Popular for some years now, particularly for those whose time is very limited, a City Break is an excellent way of getting away for a few days and nights, and seeing some interesting and different culture. Perhaps the most common City from this part of the world has been Amsterdam because it is accessible in one flight from Aberdeen, but there are many European cities which now see large numbers of short- term visitors. The advantage of a City break is that you can come and go on any days of the week that you select, normally using scheduled aircraft to spend 3 or 4 nights in a city, with a complete selection of differing hotels. Imagine flying to Barcelona, direct from Edinburgh, for 3 nights, staying in a smart city hotel full of character which only offers Bed and Breakfast because there are so many restaurants that you would want to try for lunch and dinner in the evening. Because time is limited you don't wait hours for transfer coaches, but are transported to your hotel by taxi or car. Cities like Barcelona are excellent for walking about, seeing the marinas, waterfront, Las Ramblas shopping street and the Food market. Though no direct flights exist from Scotland, Vienna is another popular destination, with all its imperial splendour, Art Nouveau, waltzes and coffee houses. A grand ring of 19th century palaces surrounds the mediaeval city, with its narrow streets, hospitable inns, cafes and shops. Two sets of customers have recently joined a break to Vienna with a trip to Budapest, using the train to travel from one to the other. Both cities boast much of the 19th century grandeur of the Hapsburg Empire. It's Bela Bartok and Liszt Museums in Budapest as it is the Strauss family in Vienna. There are many suitable Italian cities to visit for a short time, and Florence is one of the finest settings of them all. On the banks of the River Arno, Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and the city of Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Giotto, Dante and their patrons the Medici family. When you are there a visit to the Uffizi Gallery and Museum is a must! There are direct flights now from Edinburgh to Krakow, the cultural capital of Poland. Krakow is rich in museums, art galleries, concert halls and churches; as a university city it comes alive at night in cellar bars, restaurants and jazz clubs. Like Prague this city largely escaped destruction during the World War II. In Prague only one building was hit during that war, and it is now known as the American Church in honour of its bombers!

WDCS (the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society) is calling on members of the public to become part time whale and dolphin spotters in order to help the conservation charity build up a better understanding of these animals in local waters.

s required 26 r e t t o . n sp i h p l Do d n a le ha W

WDCS’s Shorewatch programme (supported by Scottish Natural Heritage) has been rolled out across Scotland in recent months and is already proving to be very popular. Shorewatch relies on community volunteers to monitor the presence of whales, dolphins and porpoises around Scotland’s coastline in order to raise awareness and capture vital data crucial to the long term future of these amazing animals. The objective of Shorewatch is for community members to become stewards of whales, dolphins and the marine habitat which is their home, and becoming a Shorewatcher is pretty simple. WDCS is running a number of training days during which volunteers will receive training on how and when to watch whales and dolphins, how to use the equipment provided, how to identify specific species, what to do if you come across a stranded animal, and where the best spots are to see amazing creatures. This all helps to ensure that the data collected is done so in the same way each time. Once trained, volunteers can go out when they feel like it, armed with scientific binoculars, and carry out regular 10-minute watches at specific sites to help learn more about how these animals use our coastline, information which will help

in the protection of these animals for future generations. So, if you like to get out and about and are keen to see more of your local wildlife then Shorewatch is for you.

coastline; and this is why community participation is so important to the long term management of marine species andtheir homes.”

The data collected helps to better understand the movements of coastal species and to inform decision makers. It is vital to know which areas might be key habitats for whales and dolphins and monitor how they use these areas over time. Such data will also be valuable towards informing planning decisions on future developments. WDCS Head of Scottish Policy, Sarah Dolman, commented on the need for the Shorewatch Programme saying, “It is vital to understand which areas are key for these creatures. We basically need to have eyes on the sea around the entire Scottish

“And at midnight there was a cry made, ...go ye out to meet Him.â€? Çť ŠĴ‘Ž ȹĹ˜Ĺ›ÇąĹœÇź Čą What think we of Christ, whose Son is He? God would have none of us to perish in our sins that’s why He sent His Beloved Son, showing His love for us that through Him(The Lord Jesus) and His Sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary that we might live; ‘...Jesus paid it all, all to Him we owe, sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow! ‘

One day we will all have to meet The Lord Jesus Christ. We will meet Him either as our Saviour or as our Judge! Those who are not with Him here on earth He will be against them in eternity and they will be judged accordingly. Will He say unto us “I know you not? or “Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord?

What have we done (and what are we doing) with Jesus who is called Christ? Have we trusted Him with our soul’s salvation having realized and understood that He died for us, for our sins? or will we not have this man Jesus Christ to rule over us? Will we continue to live stubbornly and deliberately for self for sin and for satan? When we meet Him, will we be ready?

Do we know Him? Don’t ask ourselves do we know about Him, but do we KNOW HIM! Are we a lover of pleasures or a lover of God? Are we dead in trespasses and in sins or washed in the Blood of God’s Lamb the Lord Jesus Christ? Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgement is come , and worship Him that made heaven and earth: be ye ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh. He loves us, He died for us, that He might bring us to God; let us enter into and believe the truth that God so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son, that if we believe in Him we should not perish in our sins but have everlasting life, for our sins have separated us from God.

We need to be born again! Do we know Him? Do we trust Him and Him alone for eternity. He knows them that are His and let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity!
