The nights are lighter, the days are longer. Plants emerge from winter, animals emerge from hibernation. Apparently, according to research, SUNSHINE boosts levels of serotonin the body's natural happy hormone. That's why we tend to feel happier and more energetic when the sun shines. So I am told, regular sun can stave off moderate depression, particularly if combined with exercise, such as a walk in the park. It's also been shown that exercising outdoors creates more endorphins in the body than exercising indoors. - So all I need to do now is get out there!

Joy! Joy! Is a commodity that we appear to be short of, in the news and in life, in general, at the present time. Yet, the dance of life goes on… The music of ‘true life’ becomes ever more beguiling, as we journey further into April towards the ‘Resurrection’ or the new beginning of Easter. Will you receive this new life? St.Paul says: concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.(1) Are you of the world or a spiritual person ‘in the world’? Here-in lies the answer to Joy and contentment – the answer to life itself! The meaning of life in ‘The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy’ was 42, but St. Paul is referring to God’s tune which many of us know, but sadly we do not know the dance, for we are not spiritual people. To dance well you need good music - God’s music. A good teacher (perhaps a Spiritual Director) and a life time of practice. We will all have memories of dancing with someone, and the joy of moving together to the rhythm of the band, but imagine the incomprehensible Joy of moving to the ‘rhythm of life’ - in tune with all that is around you? This is what it
means to experience ‘Resurrected Life’ to be one in Christ! The message of Easter is clear: It doesn’t matter how difficult life is or how bad we may feel about ourselves. God meets us and accepts us where we are. The road to ‘a new life’ begins just where your feet are now. Throughout Holy Week we learn how Jesus’ life slowly fell apart: His friends deserted Him; He was arrested, falsely accused, and finally put to death as a common criminal. (It could not really have been any worse). However, on Easter Sunday, when all worldly hope had gone. Jesus rose from the dead! A new beginning began: The dance went on… Our world is finite, but life in ‘the Spirit’ is Joyous and eternal. To dance in the Spirit we must pray to God, make our communion, and love our neighbours as ourselves. This is the essence of the Summary of the Law that Jesus taught us: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” On these two

commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’ (2) This is how we transform our lives and our world: This is how to live Joyously! Or in the words of a well-known hymn: ..I am the life that will never, never die;… Dance, then, wherever you maybe; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he. Time is flying by so quickly this year and it is hard to believe it will soon be a year since my election to the Scottish Parliament back in May last year. Farmers have been busy ploughing and preparing the land for new crops and schoolchildren have been getting ready to sit their exams. With the local authority elections taking place in May, I will be stepping down as a Councillor for the Fochabers Lhanbryde ward, an elected post I have thoroughly enjoyed holding over the last ten years. Many of the issues which I dealt with on a daily basis as a Councillor are impacted by the decisions made at the Scottish Parliament. I relish the challenges which lie ahead as my colleagues and I continue to hold the government to account and strive to deliver the best possible outcomes, not just for Moray but Scotland as a whole. Whilst bidding farewell to the Moray Council chambers, I will continue to work as hard as ever to represent the area at Holyrood.
Douglas Ross MSP
We’re now in the final few weeks of the Council elections and I will do my usual piece of encouraging people to use their vote! The Council provides nearly 200 services that all of us use every single day - from roads to community care and many, many things in between. This election will see the shape of the Council decided for the next 5 years, so make your voices heard! On a similar note, in recent weeks I have been receiving a fair few emails from young folk in our secondary schools who are taking Modern Studies and are researching different aspects of politics. It is great to see so many students taking an interest in how decisions are taken and posing challenging policy questions at the same time. Good luck to them all as they shortly head into the exam period!

2017 is the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, giving us the opportunity to celebrate Scotland’s rich history and impressive cultural
heritage. One of the highlights of the last month was attending the launch of Elgin Museum’s programme of events to mark this year-long celebration. We have such strong traditions that have been passed down for centuries that it often feels like Scotland’s past is very close, particularly here in Moray where ancient traditions are hugely valued and continue to be part of our culture. From the Pictish Fort that is now Burghead to the history of our unique distilleries make Moray a special place and we should embrace this national year of celebration to attract visitors to our local attractions. The volunteers have done a fantastic job putting together a great programme showing off Moray’s unique history and cultural heritage. They deserve huge praise for their efforts with this programme and the wider work they do for Elgin

Entertainment
THE DROUTHY COBBLER
For anyone who loves comedy, you are in for a treat. On the 5th, The Drouthy Cobbler will be hosting the hilarious Shappi Khorsandi. From her appearances on television shows like 8 out of 10 Cats, Q.I., and Have I Got News For You, to her best-selling books and her always popular stand-up shows, Shappi has gained a reputation for bringing both warmth and thoughtfulness to her views on modern life. The show she will be performing (Oh My Country!) is a love letter to the place she now calls home and features a bittersweet tale of multi-cultural England and the acceptance she came to find there. Their monthly Comedy Club (26th) will once again feature the best in Scottish comendy. It's a busy month for music at the Drouthy Cobbler, with a host of different styles. For folk and trad fans, the wonderful Gnoss (12th) will be performing. This young and dynamic four-piece of fiddle, flute, guitar, and percussion, tackle energetic tunes and driving folk songs. Having already picked up a Danny Kyle award, these young lads are destined for a great career. On the 28th, Dundee based Wire & Wool will make their second appearance at the Drouthy. Having been described as 'Full on bluegrass punk and roots revival heaven', their lively show is definitely not one to be missed. Aberdeen band Miss Lucid return to tour their self-titled debut album. Driven with punk & grunge undertones, blending it with some large sonic soundscapes and crafted melodies, this cohesive sound of anthemic and melodic guitars is bolstered with thought provoking poignant lyricism – with an abrasive pop knack. They will be supported by Audiokicks. On the 14th, Scottish rock band, Forest Fires will headline with support from Sonic Bucker. Since Forest Fires played their first show in 2011, they have been nominated at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards for “Best Newcomer” and played a headline tour across Scotland. Sonic Bucker are a bluesy-rock two piece with a style rooted in hooks and reffs. Anyone interested in the multi-disciplinary creative arts of Scotland would do well to go along on the 20th and experience Neu! Reekie! This is a literary collective run by poets, Micheal Pederson and Kevin Williamson who have been curating and producing cross-culture shows for over six years now. These occur around Scotland and internationally and have featured the likes of author, Irvine Welsh, and musicians, Primal Scream and Frightened Rabbit. It's Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival month and the Drouthy will be holding a whisky judging on the 27th, as well as a tasting by Ewan Henderson of the Lost Distillery Company (30th). In the last century, nearly half of all Scotland's whisky distilleries have closed or been lost forever and LDC were inspired to rediscover these lost legends from their home on the Dumfries House estate. Their dedicated team of archivists study historical records to piece together the life and time of the lost distillery. Using these findings, their expert nosing and tasting panel create a taste profile they feel we'd be enjoying from these legends if they were around today.

June Duncan Childhood in the Digital Age My love of art began in my childhood discovering crayons, colour pencils, felt pens and paints. I enjoyed the process of transforming a blank white sheet of paper into a magical world of colour. While raising a family and working I continued to paint at home before deciding it was time for me to follow my dream to study art, so I enrolled at Inverness UHI in 2013 on the NC Art and Design course. I completed my studies in 2015 attaining my HND in Contemporary Art Practice. During my studies at Inverness my interest in childhood, memories, identity and technology developed and this inspired me to produce a related body of work. I am happy to have had the opportunity to return to Inverness UHI this year to be part of their new degree course, Contemporary Art & Contextualised Practice BA (Hons) which presents exciting opportunities for students working on collaboration projects and art in the public realm. In my work I have found inspiration from my own children, reflecting on their childhood and considering childhood in the present day in comparison with a simpler childhood environment which I experienced, before the digital age, when traditional play involved creative imagination, human interaction and physical outdoor play. These aspects in my childhood gave me an appreciation for nature, an understanding of colour and a desire to create. My medium includes acrylic and oil paint and I also use forms of mixed media and collage within my work. The interest I have in the subject of childhood, self identity and digital technology has developed into the theme that runs through my current work, presenting images that reveal the impact of social media on childhood. Technology has transformed our lives and the world we live in, changing the way we communicate and socialise. As an artist and a mother, through my paintings, I hope to provoke awareness of today’s digital childhood and the benefits of learning from the natural world and through real life experience.

Carer Support Service (Moray) We’re delighted to report that Quarriers successfully won the contract to continue to deliver support to carers of all ages across Moray.
