It only seems like 5 minutes ago we were all talking about voting and elections and here we are again! So soon - too soon? I wonder what we would do if we didn’t have politicians telling us how things should be and what we should be thinking all the time. The great mantra about listening to the people seems to take a bit of a back seat when it comes to the winning of a Parliamentary Seat! Hey - Ho - here we go again!

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS Meekness and Majesty I hate job application forms: but even worse is a job interview. Predictably one of the first questions which will come up in any interview is the candidate will be asked ' what skills can you bring into this position? ' Here we naturally want to sell ourselves as having the skill set required for the position required. However, when you look at the attitudes Jesus says are 'Blessed' in the sermon of the mount these characteristics would rarely be seen or heard in any job interview. No characteristic is more counter cultural in the sermon of the mount I would argue than meekness. Jesus says ' Blessed are the meek'. In our generation when we hear someone describe themselves as meek we would often define it as weakness or dare i say it we would think they were spineless and lack a back bone. In many ways it can be easier to define what meekness is nor rather than what is meekness. So what are the characteristics of the meekness. A person who is meek I would argue is a servant. No person illustrates this characteristic more clearly than Jesus. Although he was God he was prepared to wash his disciples feet. Interestingly Jesus does this to set us an example. Perhaps there's a

challenge for us there - if we want to be known as his followers - how many people see the church as a agent for serving the world. secondly a meek person will often be revealed by their motives. The Christian who is truly meek will live by the motivation they are there too please God not to please other people. Therefore the meek person will live to attain the praise of God not the praise of man. Therefore the meek person is not the person who is weak but rather they have an inner strength and a confidence in God. Therefore we must ask ourselves the question : who do we live to please? do we want to please the crowd or do we want to live for the praise of God? One of the things which strikes me most about Jesus Christ : is not just he was majestic but he was meek. Can I please encourage you to reflect this month on these words of a hymn called Meekness and Majesty by Graham Kendrick Meekness and majesty, Manhood and Deity, In perfect harmony, The Man who is God. Lord of eternity Dwells in humanity, Kneels in humility And washes our feet.

O what a mystery, Meekness and majesty. Bow down and worship For this is your God, This is your God. Father's pure radiance, Perfect in innocence, Yet learns obedience To death on a cross. Suffering to give us life, Conquering through sacrifice, And as they crucify Prays: 'Father forgive.' Wisdom unsearchable, God the invisible, Love indestructible In frailty appears. Lord of infinity, Stooping so tenderly, Lifts our humanity To the heights of His throne. Graham Kendrick Copyright © 1986 Thankyou Music May we all learn to model the words of Jesus ' Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth'.

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES

“ Parliament ” Blog I recently had a great time joining with the hugely popular midnight football league, which is a great activity being accessed by young folk right across Moray, keeping them fit and well occupied! I have always been a big football fan and, at the risk of losing a host of votes, I can reveal myself as a longstanding Aberdeen fan! For the many football fans across Moray the football season is reaching its climax. For Aberdeen fans it has been one of the best seasons in recent years and my eldest son and I have managed to get to some really good games. Hopefully more to come!

As this column is within 6 weeks of the May election I am in the unusual situation of not being able to call myself an MP as the House of Commons is now in dissolution pending the result of the election. It is an odd period where, despite the fact that I can and will respond to constituent's queries, I am doing it as a member of the public and no longer as MP. It is a quirk of our democracy that is difficult to explain and which, frankly, causes nothing but havoc for my poor office staff who have to create temporary letterheads, change answer machine messages and other fairly random things that have been the norm for the previous four years and forty something weeks! Whether I continue to write these columns is wholly dependent on whether you, the people of Moray, choose to elect me again. I hope that I will get your support to continue that privilege of representing you in Westminster but whoever you support, please use your vote which is a hard won democratic right that many people in the world regrettably still do not have. FOREST FUN FOR ALL Forests in Moray and Aberdeenshire are really hard to beat, whether walking, cycling, watching wildlife or a picnic with the family, the forests have so much to offer. Visit the coastal woods along the Moray Firth, the wonderful and majestic mountain of Bennachie with its surrounding forest, the peaceful pinewoods of Upper Deeside or the busy city woods round Aberdeen. Where else in the country can you get such variety! Whether you are a walker, mountain biker or horse rider, we have trails for you.

The annual Easter Eggstravaganza is back in 2015 and Forestry Commission Scotland has lined up a packed programme.

Roseisle is a beautiful coastal pinewood lining Burghead Bay and offering the perfect place for a family outing. Why not make a day of it, have a picnic or use one of our fixed barbecue sites while the children have fun in the play area. Relax on the sandy beach or have an energetic walk or cycle ride. As well as shorter circular routes, you can explore all the way to Burghead or College of Roseisle.

Come along on the 5th April, 1 - 4pm for some family fun. Get involved in outdoor activities, discover more about Scotland’s wildlife, hug a husky, go on a bunny hunt, orienteering, mountain bikes and much more. If you would like more information about this event or about Forestry Commission on 01466 794161 or email morayaberdeenshire@forestry.gsi.gov.uk

Football Files

This Month... A profile on Buckie Thistle

Buckie Thistle Football Club has a remarkable history to it full of highs and terrible lows - but it is still very much alive and kicking and looking forward to a bright future on and off the park. The club was officially founded in 1889 but new evidence suggests it could be as early as 1897! The club played in local competitions only until being elected to the Highland League in 1909. In August 1919 they played their first game at the new Victoria Park where they have been ever since. They became the first team out-with Inverness and Elgin to win the Championship when they lifted it for the first time in 1919-20. Nine more titles have followed, the last being in 2010-11 when they defeated deadly rivals Deveronvale 2-1 at Victoria Park in what was effectively a title decider. The other major honours to come their way have been the Highland League Cup which they have won eight times, the last in 2011-12. In that competition

FOOTBALL CLUB

they were the first club to complete a hat-trick of successes from 1955-57. They lifted the Scottish Qualifying Cup (North) on four occasions, the last in 2003-04 - this is no longer played for. Locally, they have captured the magnificent Aberdeenshire Cup on 12 occasions, the last in 2009-10 and the Aberdeenshire Shield (started 1990) 3 times, the last in 2007-08. The most successful period was the 1950’s and in 1953-54 they became only the second team to complete the ‘Grand Slam’ by lifting all the north trophies they could enter for. 2003-2012 though was also a great time for the club especially on May Day 2010 when, away to Wick Academy, the club lifted the title for the first time since 1958. The darkest days were at the end of the 1960’s and then, most notably, in 1982 when the club nearly folded. Conflicts have also had a toll on the club with players paying the ultimate sacrifices in both wars notably keeper Alex ‘Charlie’ Davidson in the Great War and George ‘Kitchy’ Cormack in World War 2. A few players were decorated with George McIntosh receiving the VC in World War 1 and Alex Smith the MC in World War 2.

Warm Savoury Scones, Melting Clava Brie Makes 10 Scones Ingredients: 225g Self Raising Flour 1 tsp Baking Powder 50g Butter 125g Grated mature Cheddar ½ tsp Arran Mustard 150ml Milk 1 Beaten Egg Method: Mix flour, baking powder and butter until a “bread crumb” mixture. Mix the mustard and the milk and add to the flour mixture. Knead to a soft dough. Roll on floured surface about 2 cm thick and cut to shape. Place on a baking tray with baking paper, egg wash and bake on 200°C for 12 to 15 minutes golden brown. Cool on a rack. This dish is nice as a snack, starter or as a canapé for a dinner party and the scones can be made in advance and frozen easily!! Once cooled, cut in half and cover with slices of brie, place under a grill or in a warm oven and let the cheese melt. Serve warm with beetroot salsa. Beetroot Salsa; 1 packet cooked beetroot 1 large shallot 1 tbsp crème fraîche 1 tbsp mayonnaise Dash of sherry vinegar and seasoning Finely chop the beetroot and shallot, mix with the crème fraîche and mayonnaise, season. Oscar Sinjorgo, Head Chef, The Newton Hotel, Nairn.

The bath contours down to a 750mm width and the flush, recessed side panel makes it easy for parents and carers to get closer in for supervision or assistance. The bath is equipped with a moveable and reversible waterproof shelf that can

be used as an additional seat, ideal for seated showering or as a tray for toiletry items keeping them at easy reach. There is also an ergonomically designed reclined back and neck support for added comfort. Left and right hand baths are available, and the baths are compatible with a range of straight, curved or folding bath screens providing design flexibility for any bathroom layout. The All™ Family bath is manufactured from premium grade acrylic, guaranteeing a high performance and easy maintenance surface. The All™ range from Twyford offers allinclusive bathroom solutions comprising baths, basins, furniture and accessories. These can be teamed with the 3D close coupled toilet which has increased height and the Avalon 700mm projection pan suitable for wheelchair users.
