All elections over now - at least until next year anyway! Whether the result went well for you personally or not I guess we should remember those countries that do not have the benefit of any elections at all or where elections are routinely rigged. We should spare a thought for all the political prisoners who are being held in places like Indonesia, Thailand, Tibet and North Korea to name just a few.

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS Listen for His voice As we go about our normal daily lives, we are bombarded with various voices constantly. I am not talking about voices that serial killers claim to hear, telling them to kill people, but voices vying for our attention and response. We grow up listening to our parents’ voices telling us how we should behave. Then we are subject to our teachers’ voices telling us what we should do to become whatever it is we want to do in life. Our TVs, radios, and social media speak into our minds, telling us what products we should be buying or what holidays we should be taking. Our politicians’ voices loom large, especially at election times, telling us how we should vote. And the list goes on and on, not all bad, but not all good either. I must admit that I have fallen for the voice that tells me what product I should buy as I stand in the supermarket looking at vast arrays of manufacturers of washing up liquid, totally bemused as to what to buy, and a voice comes into my head and I hear a jingle from the TV and the decision is made as to what washing up liquid to buy.
Voices are powerful and can determine the course of our lives to one degree or another. But there is one voice that many people either don’t hear or choose to ignore, and that is the voice of God. Again, I am not talking about the voice that is blamed for all sorts of crazy behaviour, but the authentic voice of God.
Jesus said in John 10:27, ‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no-one will snatch them out of My hand.’ Sheep always know the voice of the shepherd. If we claim to be Christians, therefore God’s flock, then we should hear, recognise and follow His voice. If we cannot hear His voice, could it be that we are allowing all these other voices to drown it out?
Take some time, and go to a place of peace and quiet, and still all the external voices, and listen for the voice of the Shepherd. Once you hear His voice, He will speak love, grace, peace, mercy and compassion into your soul. He will not speak condemnation, hatred, strife, anger or any destructive thing to you. He is a God of love. He is love itself;

that is who He is. I don’t know about you, but I get so sick of hearing voices pulling me all over the place. My favourite Psalm is Psalm 23, part of which says this, ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.’
People often ask, ‘What is the will of God for my life?’ The answer is found in 1 Timothy 2:4, ‘God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.’
Listen for His voice and you will be pleased that you did. If you find it difficult to do it, find a real Christian who can show you how to.
I pray that you find the Saviour, surrender your life to Him, receive the gift of eternal life, and choose to obey His voice.

Baked Pears with Cinnamon Served with a Crème Anglaise Sauce Serves 4 Ingredients Sauce: 2 egg yolks 60g/2oz sugar Vanilla pod (or vanilla essence) 250ml /1/2pt milk Lemon rind, finely grated, to decorate
Pears: 4 ripe pears 2 tbsp lemon juice 4 tbsp light muscovado sugar 1tsp ground cinnamon 60g/2oz butter Method Pears:
Sauce: 200oC.
Core Preheat the oven to and peel the pears, then slice them in half lengthwise and brush all over with the lemon juice. Place the pears, cored side down, in a small non-stick roasting tin.
Bring the milk and vanilla pod to the boil, remove the pod, pour milk onto the egg yolks and sugar, stirring all the time.
Place the sugar, cinnamon and butter in a small saucepan and heat gently, stirring until the sugar has melted. Keep the heat low to stop too much water evaporating.
Continue cooking, without boiling, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon.
Spoon the mixture over the pears. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pears are tender and golden, occasionally spooning the sugar mixture over the fruit during the cooking time.
Return to the stove and cook, but do not boil.
To serve: Pour the sauce over the base of the warm dessert plate. Arrange two pear halves on the plate and decorate with grated lemon rind. Stuart Aitken, Head Chef, Eight Acres Hotel

New private and NHS patients Offering free consultations for Invisalign, fixed metallic and clear braces (offer expires end June 2015)
FIXED METAL BRACES Metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces you have the option of adding coloured elastics for a more unique and colourful smile.
FIXED CLEAR BRACES Clear braces are an attractive alternative for many adults and older teenagers as they are discreet and almost invisible so you can feel confident during treatment
INVISALIGN Invisalign is the clear alternative to braces. Rather than wearing one brace over a period of time, the Invisalign system uses a series of removable, clear aligners. Call us for more details.
