The Editor Scottishness seems to be the hot topic at the moment with numerous debates on independence. Whatever our views on this though is it not just as important to care for one’s neighbour as we would like to be cared for - irrespective of nationality? When we respect others as much as we respect ourselves then don’t we all win?

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS “The Spirit immediately drove Jesus out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.” (Mark 1:12-13 NRSV) Lent, the season which recalls how, after his baptism, the Holy Spirit drove Jesus into the desert to endure fierce temptation for forty days and forty nights to prepare him for his ministry, began in the middle of February, on Ash Wednesday. We are now well into Lent and maybe we feel that there is no escape from temptation in this world. Temptation is thinking about the attractive possibility of something known to be wrong, and yielding to that temptation constitutes sin. We need to remember that there is an unfailing defence against giving into temptation. If we sincerely call on God for help, he will give us the strength we need. Christ, the sinless one, knew the full force of temptation in the wilderness where body, mind and spirit had been taxed by days of solitude and fasting. Knowing our frailty, Jesus tells us to pray that we shall not be led into temptation, when he gave us the Lord’s Prayer, see St Luke Chapter 11
at verse 4: “”And do not bring us to the time of trial” (NRSV).
must persevere with keeping a good Lent.
We must pray that we will not be put to the test that may lead us away from God. Jesus saw off the Devil, but temptation would return again in the Garden of Gethsemane, after the Last Supper when Jesus, petrified at the prospect of the horrors of crucifixion, prayed fervently: “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me, let not my will but yours be done. Then an angel appeared to him and gave him strength” (Luke 22:42-43 NRSV) As Jesus was firm to the end, so he will keep us firm in our less terrible testing.
One of the questions which Lent must pose to those who call themselves Christians is: “How far up our priority list do we put our Spiritual Life and Church participation?” Some people have a clear, strong and regular commitment to the prayer life of the Church; others have a much more haphazard approach to the Faith and its practice. Maybe this Lent we should examine our consciences and ascertain whether our “excuses” or “reasons” for not coming regularly to Church. It is about commitment and priorities. If you are serious about Christ then you show that commitment by worshipping regularly.
Lent is a time when temptation is often strong, but it gives us a good opportunity to reflect on our part in proclaiming good news, to reflect on the news our lives proclaim – are we telling only about ourselves, or are we telling the story of God's love, the good news of the Gospel? Namely that God sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world, at a point of time in history, in order to redeem us. Arising from our consideration of the Gospel and how our lives reflect it, a sense of failure and penitence ought to arise within us. So with those thoughts of reconciliation with God in our mind, we

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES
“
Parliament Blog
While it is a few weeks since the event i would like to pay tribute to the speakers and musicians who made Moray SNP’s Burns Supper a huge success. We have always been very good at attracting top speakers from both here in Moray and further afield and, as a result, attract guests to the event that are not necessarily very political but who just love a cracking Burns Supper! i will make special mention of the musicians and especially the young musical talent, which was just phenomenal and really made the evening a special night. The combination of musical talent and the commitment of the youngsters with that talent to make the most of what they have is great to see and i am certainly encouraged to see our young folk performing such fantastic pieces, live in front of a large and appreciative audience!
”
i was delighted recently when the uK government accepted the long-running case for Arctic Convoy veterans to be recognised with an official medal. on a political level i have long backed the campaign but on a personal level, having a father who was a naval officer, it has always been instilled in me the importance of recognising bravery and the sheer effort of people involved in the defence of our identity and values. The Arctic Convoys were strongly associated with the north of Scotland and were recognised as being one of the harshest environments in the second world war, especially since most of those involved were of a merchant navy rather than a military background. There were many, many casualties and it is absolutely right that the remaining convoy veterans are receiving this long-
overdue recognition of their wartime contribution.

Easter Extravaganza Harvesting & Easter at Roseisle The Forest of Roseisle, along with the many other forests, is a hive of activity and not just preparation for the Easter Extravaganza. The work, is part of the ongoing management of the woodland and will take place between Roseisle Maltings and Burghead and we expect to be finished by April / May at the latest. As well as resulting in some disruption to forest paths, the work will also cause some temporary disruption to public roads in and around Burghead. Diversions will be in place wherever possible. Forestry Commission Scotland’s Paul Raisbeck said: “If the weather is kind to us we might get finished a little earlier but this is a demanding job and heavy machinery will be involved so we’ll be putting warning signs up around the forest. When we’re doing this sort of work the forest can be a dangerous place for visitors – which is why we close some footpaths, put in diversions and put up safety signage. For their own safety, it’s very important that anyone accessing the forest should take careful note of any signs that they encounter.” As well as resulting in some disruption to forest paths, the work will also result in some temporary disruption to public roads in and around Burghead. Diversions will be in place wherever possible. The thinning will yield approximately 2500 tonnes (3000 m3) of timber to be processed at local sawmills and used for housing, pallets, fencing and board products.
Roseisle Easter Extravaganza FCS staff look forward to seeing you at their popular Easter Extravaganza. Get close to a harvester, find out more about Scotland’s amazing wildlife, have a go at the greenwood workshop, marvel at the expertise of the chainsaw carver and enter our free draw to win one of his unique sculptures. There will, of course, be a Bunny Hunt, face painters, Mountain Bikes and much, much more; there really is something for everybody. Burgers and ice cream will be on sale to keep you going, but why not bring a picnic to eat at our picnic site or take the boardwalk down to the beach. The event is on Easter Sunday March 31st between 1pm and 4pm. The car park is accessed from the B9089 between College of Roseisle and Kinloss. The site is equipped with all ability toilet facilities." Forestry Commission Scotland, Moray & Aberdeenshire District Portsoy Road Huntly. Chef’s Confidential Spinach, Cheese & Red Onion Frittata The frittata (an Italian set egg dish) is a versatile, easy-to-cook dish that makes a lovely lunch served with a fresh salad, a nice snack in a warm ciabatta roll or a starter or tapas dish. Remember to use an ovenproof, non-stick frying pan for this method. For 2 people as a lunch Ingredients 2 tbsp of extra virgin rapeseed oil/olive oil ½ medium sized red onion finely chopped Two handfuls of baby spinach leaves 5-6 free-range eggs (depending on size of eggs) Salt & freshly ground black pepper 2 oz (50g) grated mature cheddar or Gruyere or you can use sliced or crumbled goat’s cheese if you prefer. Method Warm the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas Mark 4. Heat oil in a medium sized ovenproof, non-stick frying pan over a medium heat. Add the red onion and cook until softened. Add the baby spinach and cook for about 30 seconds with the onion until wilted. Add the beaten eggs to the frying pan and stir in the seasoning, make sure the spinach is evenly distributed. Leave the frittata to cook over a medium heat for up to a minute until the bottom and the edges have set (do not stir during this time). Sprinkle cheese over the top and transfer to the oven in the pan for about 4mins or until it is set. Do not overcook or it will be rubbery. Serve immediately. Variations Try a smoked salmon & spring onion frittata by adding the egg to the pan first and then adding finely chopped spring onion & pieces of smoked salmon before the frittata goes in the oven.

Dreaming of... ... a wedding in paradise
There is a growing trend to get married abroad in resorts which are well geared up for marriages. Civil Partnerships are also available in some countries where the law permits it, mainly in Canada, America and South Africa. Imagine combining the sand, sea and warm air of a Caribbean Island resort with its almost guaranteed weather rather than worrying whether the bride’s hair will get rained on at home. Photos and wedding cakes are the norm as are Champagne receptions and Wedding Dances if you take enough friends and family with you. Indian Ocean Island resorts such the Maldives and Mauritius have resorts that conduct at least one wedding every day, often on the beach, and performed by a Marriage Officer, whose title varies upon the resort, ie in Australia it will be a Celebrant, in Barbados will be a Minister or Registrar, and in Cyprus it can be an Anglican Minister. It is important that the arrangements are made through proper channels to ensure the marriage ceremony, bought in the UK but performed abroad, is compatible with UK Law and recognised as a marriage at home. Travel brochures specialising in Weddings and Honeymoons are now more popular than ever, one even extolling the virtues of the Minimoon and the Maximoon. A Minimoon is a romantic short escape after a wedding, giving you the chance to save up or take the time off at a later date. A Maximoon is for those with time to spare to indulge their ultimate travel fantasy, which for example might be discovering India and Nepal, Botswana in Style Safari, or a tailor-made Round the World trip. The ultimate White Wedding can happen in a ski resort in Lapland. If you’re looking for somewhere with the wow-factor, the Snow Village in Kittila is a serious contender. The frozen piece of architecture is rebuilt every year using a thousand truckloads of snow, and counts a hotel, a bar and a chapel amongst its credentials. In recent years the traditional Honeymoon can be enjoyed in a romantic city, in a quiet rural setting, in a fabulous hotel, or in a cottage in the mountains. Honeymoons can be tailored to any budget – after all you wouldn’t want to fall out over it after a few days of marriage would you‌?

Restaurant Review Emma’s Coffee Shop, Buckie
The family-run coffee shop that truly caters for families Too often it can be so difficult to find a coffee shop or restaurant – somewhere to eat and drink – that can be thought of as family friendly. How many times have you taken the family out for the day and have had to cram them into a crowded, compact and child-unfriendly environment? Emma’s Coffee Shop is the exception to this and offers families so much more than most. Situated in Buckie, Emma’s was opened in 2000 by George and Betty Ross of JG Ross Bakers Craft Bakers in Inverurie, and was named after their first granddaughter. J.G. Ross is an award winning bakery celebrating 50 years in business, famous for its handcrafted pies, butteries and softies, all of which can be bought at Emma’s, together with bread, a selection of cakes and pastries, and now a gluten free range. The Coffee Shop has been recently refurbished, decorated and updated – all these changes being completed for the needs of the modern family. There is a children’s Eat & Play area with toys and games. The 20+ tables are located in such a way that prams and wheelchairs have more than ample room to move and would not block gangways.

Two settees allow for cosy chat over a coffee. Tables are set out indoors, in the conservatory and out on the patio that has some of the best views of the Moray Firth – enjoy your lunch whilst watching for the dolphins. Service is both friendly and efficient, led by Emma’s managers Lynda and Paula, and their staff will always welcome kids and adults alike. What about the food and drink? Most of the produce used is sourced locally from local butchers and farmers, and they are both inventive and passionate about their menus. The adult menu has such delicacies as All-day Brunches, Paninis and Tortillas as well as Homemade Cullen Skink, Homemade Burgers and Dumpling & Custard. Look for the Specials Board that highlights the homemade Pie of the Week, homemade Scone of the Week, and much more. However, we think it is the kids’ menu that stands out from the competition. This includes Chicken or Haddock Goujons, Grilled (not fried) Sausages and Homemade Steak Burgers. The idea of the ‘Picnic Platter’ (including bread soldiers, cheese, cucumber, pineapple and raisins) sounds awesome for younger children. Catering for
everyone is something Emmas do well by having regular promotions aswell as senior citizen specials every Wednesday. We enjoyed Cullen Skink, full of chunky ingredients – smoked haddock, onion and potatoes – delicious and very filling – followed by Homemade Mince & Onion Pie with Chips and Garden Peas. There is a myriad of soft drinks available, seven different coffee specialities as well as fruit teas. How did we rate the meal – easy – delight and satisfaction guaranteed. When finished, pop into the front shop and purchase some of JG Ross Bakers award winning bakery goods – we did!

When the party is over... We see in the Bible that we are all unclean in God’s sight because of our sins. You may not think that you are a hell-deserving sinner, but God is Holy and He hates sin. Sin will keep you from being with God in heaven for eternity and damn you to Hell, unless you receive God’s forgiveness for sin which is found only in His Son Jesus Christ. God’s word reveals that if you die in an unclean & unforgiven state, because of your own choice, you’ll go to hell with all the other people who refused God’s mercy. There are many people, and you may be one of them, who believe that life should be one never ending party; friends to meet, places to go, and things to get and do, seeking constant amusement in the pursuit of happiness, needing non-stop activity to fill the emptiness inside, to fight the boredom that surrounds them.
You may think. “That’s okay - all my party friends will be there too!” Yes, sadly they will be there too if they too reject Christ, but the thick blackness of “outer darkness” will separate you from each other. It is a place of torment, never ending fear and punishment and you’ll be there on your own.
Right now you are without God in this world and have no hope, but in Christ Jesus you, who are far off, can be brought near by the blood of Christ; He Drugs, alcohol, immoral relationships, money can be your peace.
