I am going to resist the temptation to make any comment on the Referendum vote in an effort to retain the impartiality of SpotLight! Arguably one of the most important decisions for the people who live and work in Scotland, I am sure that we will all be giving it our full attention and aiming to reunite as a nation once the vote is over. PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS "As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and He said to him, 'follow me'. And he got up and followed Him." (Matthew 9:9) NRSV One of the Saints the Church celebrates in September is St Matthew and the text at the head of this letter recalls how Jesus called Matthew from being a tax collector to become an apostle. We know that Jesus called people to follow him and that he often associated with sinners and taxcollectors. Apart from being included in the list of the twelve Apostles, we never meet Matthew again in the Gospel. His character is not developed at all elsewhere. In Mark and Luke this same apostle is called Levi, but Jesus’s behaviour is consistent in all the versions and consistent, too, with what we know of his mission from the rest of the Gospels. All we know about Matthew is that he got up and accepted Christ's invitation to follow Him. He does not even tell us what he said in response or what his feelings or reactions were to the Lord's call. He simply uses his own experience to underline the fact that Jesus even made disciples out of the most despised tax-collectors, the lowest of
the low, those who sold out their people and their faith in order to make a living by collaborating with the occupying forces. One of the things that all the Gospels tell us about Jesus is that he ate with sinners — people whom the lawabiding, the faithful, the just could not bring themselves to eat with. Very often he accepts their hospitality, so he is not even dictating the terms on which he shares fellowship with them. Another thing all the Gospels tell us is that Jesus’s mission focussed on people who were not accepted in their society. Why are the Jewish leaders not glad that someone has come to bring the needy back into the people of God? They feel that their insider position is only safe if there are also some outsiders. This, then, is what makes Jesus’s gospel of God’s allencompassing generosity so divisive. That is why Matthew, Paul and all other apostles of Christ are called to preach a gospel that will make them hated. To celebrate the lives of those who have proclaimed God’s grace throughout the centuries is to celebrate a history that has at least as much apparent failure in it as success. People did not all believe Matthew,

or Paul, or even Jesus, and they will not all believe us. God knows that — who better? As well as encouraging us about the mercy of God, the story of Matthew's call also challenges us. Matthew is saying to his readers: 'Listen and you will hear the Lord calling your name too. If Matthew could tell the story of Jesus to the people of his time, so can we in our time. We can tell others that in Christ, God's love is made known. We can tell others that Christ still seeks out the sick, the sinner, those in physical and spiritual need. WE can tell others that what God wants is not empty religious observance, but real mercy, worship of the heart, a full and generous response to his call. Do we dare, like Matthew, to tell others our story, to witness to Christ's love in our life, to put our trust in him? Do we dare to be an evangelist and to proclaim aloud the Good News of Christ?

September is now here with arguably the most important vote that people in Scotland will participate in during in their lifetime. Should Scotland be an Independent Country? Yes or No. There have been public meetings, televised debates, discussions around the dinner table, at work and and in the pub but ultimately I believe it comes down to this: On the 18 September from 7am till 10pm the people of Scotland hold all of the power in their hands. Do we choose to use that power or hand that power back? You decide - use your vote!
While I normally try to be less political in this blog, in this, the month of the Independence Referendum, I can’t really talk about anything else. The referendum has been at the centre of the lives of many thousands of campaigners across Scotland and as the 18th approaches the importance of it is sinking in with more and more people as they reach the point where they must choose Yes or No. Yes we want to do something different for our country, Yes we have the confidence, talent and drive to make Scotland work better for it’s people, a people that trust their ability to build a better country. Or No, we think Westminster should continue to take the lead. For me, for my children and their children in years to come it is absolutely a Yes. Yes to a better Scotland for everyone.

My Wedding at Innes House Sheryl Milligan & Sean Dyer – 9th August 2014
Sheryl Milligan gives us an insight into her recent wedding at Innes House: Where did you meet? Sean and I met in the Abbey Arms in Kinloss, exactly 2 years to the day before we got married; a complete coincidence as we hadn’t realised it when we booked the wedding. Why Innes House? We chose Innes House because of its uniqueness. As they say in their brochure, there is an actual garden in their marquee! We wanted to get married outside because it was a breathtakingly beautiful setting for a wedding. The night before? Sean spent the night at my parent’s house with his wedding party and Uncles having a few drinks. We girls all stopped at Innes House for drinks and nibbles, as we were getting ready from there the following morning. Your ceremony? We wanted a religious Christian service, and our minister brought just the right amount of humour to it, settling both our nerves.
My Wife and I… I was quite nervous about Sean's speech but it was perfect. His words about me were beautiful and touched my heart; there wasn't a dry eye in the room. He paid my parents the credit they were due and got way more laughs than he expected. …and your food? We choose our menu based on our favourite foods, and we had to be rolled out of the tasting at the 1629 restaurant! On the day it was presented beautifully and enjoyed by all. Any star performers? The staff at Innes couldn’t do enough for us, but our photographer, John Baikie was absolutely fantastic; he risked life and limb up on the roof of the Innes tower to get the perfect sunset shot that he promised. Party Time… Our day was made complete by our perfect party. We had just the right music mix from our band and disco. The photo-booth was a big hit with the guests and it was all topped off with an amazing firework display. It hasn't quite sunk in yet that we are now Mr and Mrs Dyer. We are still sky high after the wedding of our dreams!
INNES HOUSE
Weddings and Corporate Entertainment A Unique place for any Occasion It is difficult to imagine a more romantic setting for your wedding than a 17th century house set in a sheltered walled garden. However, Innes is not just a stunning venue which you and your guests will never forget, but also offers a wholly flexible programme to enable you to plan your day exactly as you would like. Every wedding is unique and tailor-made for each couple. You may hold the ceremony here in the garden or in one of the two beautiful reception rooms. After the service your guests can wander around the gardens whilst you have your photographs taken in these tranquil, romantic surroundings. The reception and dinner may be held in the East Dining Room or larger parties can be held in our marquee extension which covers a walled garden complete with a summer house for the bar and a fountain around which the tables are set. After dinner you may enjoy dancing or other entertainment and then drive away down the tree lined avenue and look back on a magnificent floodlit house. Alternatively, you and some of your guests may stay the night in one of our splendidly appointed bedrooms and leave after a leisurely breakfast the next morning.
“Many venues have a marquee in their garden, but how many have a garden in their marquee…?”
