Pastoral letter and Church Meetings In 1965 a rock group called the Byrds were chart toppers with a hit song called “Turn Turn Turn! “ The lyrics are grafted straight from the pages of the Old Testament , making it the oldest words to a hit song ever. The song spoke into the moment of the swinging sixties and if you are of a certain age will sit in our memory along with other chart toppers that brought a sense of joy in the new found freedom of that decade, speaking spiritually to people living in a time of new hope and freedom following the earlier dissasters of the 20th Centuary; two World Wars and a great depression all within the space of 50 years. Let us remind ourselves of the Bible passage the lyrics were sourced from There's an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth: “A right time for birth and another for death, A right time to plant and another to reap, A right time to kill and another to heal, A right time to destroy and another to construct, A right time to cry and another to laugh, A right time to lament and another to cheer,

A right time to make love and another to abstain, A right time to embrace and another to part, A right time to search and another to count your losses, A right time to hold on and another to let go, A right time to rip out and another to mend, A right time to shut up and another to speak up, A right time to love and another to hate, A right time to wage war and another to make peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:2-9) Time is a strange thing isn’t it – the older I get the faster it seems to pass. And the longer you are about the more changes you notice as it passes - one moment you can feel down in the dumps – the next you feel on top of the world. One day life might be sending you more troubles than you can cope with - the next might be full of promise. The experience of fluctuating fortune is something that we all have in common. Life for all of us is continuosly on the move and our experience always changing. Sometime we might wish it would all stand still. But if it did we would

miss most of lifes joy – the passing of seasons, falling in love, the first kiss, meeting a soul mate, the cry of a newborn baby, the growth of children, the wait for a special event like a wedding or holiday and off course the growth of our Hope in Christ. The secret of time, is knowing how to respond to its passing, how to understand what mood is appropriate for a particular season or occassion. Should we grasp the nettle or admit defeat? Should we take a stand or walk away. Each of us is challenged by questions like that each day – and there is not rule book of responses – therefore no fixed answers. Through all experience of life we need to seek God’s guidance and help, for He alone holds all time in his hands – through all lifes changes He never changes. God is the only truly consistent thing in life and we glimpse his ways for us best through the life of Jesus- as the author of the book of Hebrews wrote - “ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever.” Rev Andrew Robertson St Andrews Lhanbryde and Urqhuart Church

It was a great day out with hundreds taking part and raising funds and having some fun along the way, meeting friends old and new. It looks to be a fantastic fundraising fixture in Moray's calendar and has the potential to go from being huge to absolutely massive! Well done to everyone involved in both organising and participating. Great job! Angus Robertson MP

By the time Spotlight goes to press I will either be thinking I'm fitter than I thought or lying in a painful heap having been beaten to the finish by the children. Clearly that can't be allowed to happen....back to training it is then....

A huge thank you to all the Kiltwalkers that set out from Buckie and Fochabers heading to Aberlour and raising a huge amount of money for some fantastic children's charities. I had the pleasure of sending the walkers off from Buckie and richard Lochhead set them off on their way from Fochabers.

At the time of writing I am dusting off the bike and preparing to take part in the Whisky trail Sportive 2012, which is a cycling challenge to raise funds for North East Sensory Services. With three routes - 80 miles, 40 miles and a 10 mile family friendly route, it is an opportunity for all abilities of cyclists to get out and about.

LOW TIDE TIMES FOR LOSSIEMOUTH IN JULY Walking on the beach should be possible 2 hours either side of these times

Dreaming of... Malta – Something for everyone

Rich in history, crystal clear seas and brilliant blue skies means that Malta and her Islands have something to offer most travellers. The fact that there is so much history and so many historical sites on the Island, never fails to amaze its visitors. Small but perfectly formed, Malta is only 17 miles by 8 miles, but whether you want the rich history of the country, snorkel and dive or simply relax, Malta has it all. With summer temperatures reaching over 30 degrees and winter temperatures rarely dipping below 15 degrees, you can holiday all year round with some great long stay deals to be had in the cooler months. A highlight is the Blue Grotto which is one of the islands gems, a series of natural caves and only accessible by boat you will be taken into caves where translucent waters are truly blue, giving the grotto its name. Visit the Mosta Dome which can be seen towering over the capital city of Valletta. Built by the Knights of St John, Valletta is rich in history and architectural treasures. It also makes a great city break. Another must is Mdina (say as M-Dina). The silent city is medieval and was the former capital. A fortified relic, it is reminiscent of an era which has long since disappeared. 20 Minutes by ferry is Malta’s sister island of Gozo. A typical Mediterranean island, it is a world apart from Malta. Greener and more fertile than Malta, the Gozitans live life at their own pace but now share their island with visitors to the selection of hotels from budget to luxury spa – or even a farmhouse for an authentic experience. If you can’t spare a week here try it as a two centre with Malta or it can be done in a day and use the hop on hop off bus travelling around the island or take your hire car over on the ferry !

Legal – Ease Powers Of Attorney As of June 2012 the Office of the Public Guardian will now accept registration of a Power of Attorney by electronic means, greatly speeding up the registration process. A Power of Attorney (‘POA’) is a formal document whereby a trusted person, the Attorney, is appointed to make decisions for and manage the affairs of another referred to as the donor. It is advisable to create a combined Continuing and Welfare POA, as this grants the widest powers possible to an Attorney and eases the administration of their duties. Nursing Homes, Financial Institutions and other such entities must acknowledge and comply with the requests of an Attorney acting under the authority of a registered POA. Few people consider drawing up and registering a Power of Attorney but, unfortunately, accidents or illnesses can occur suddenly as well as the situations where deterioration may be more gradual. If a person becomes incapacitated but has no POA in place, a costly and time consuming Court application is necessary to appoint a Guardian. A POA can be revoked at anytime if, for example, an Attorney’s circumstances change and they themselves become incapable of taking over the donor’s affairs. If capacity is in doubt when creating a POA then a registered medical practitioner’s professional opinion must be sought to confirm that the donor is able to understand the nature and implications of what they are granting. Some people are expressly prohibited from acting as an Attorney such as a bankrupt. Your Solicitor can discuss with you who would be a suitable person to appoint as your Attorney. If you would like to discuss drawing up a Continuing and/or Welfare Power of Attorney please feel free to call:Cherry Fairley, Solicitor & Notary Public of Fairleys Solicitors, 7 Mayne Road, Elgin IV30 1NY Tel: 01343 551126
