PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS Are you paying the price of greed? There is a trend in restaurants today towards the eat as much as you want buffet - they are very tempting particularly for someone like myself that enjoys their food. I was away on a business trip and was walking down the road looking for something for dinner. There it was, a sign outside an Indian Restaurant - “Eat as Much as you Want”. Being a fan of food and particularly Indian food, I was not going to waste a chance like that. Very soon I was in there piling the starters on my plate, my eyes wide in anticipation of the medley of curries and accompaniments that were to follow. So the meal continued - a bit of this - a bit of that and a bit more of what I had just had. So it went on journey after journey to the mountain of food. It seemed a good idea at the time but on my fourth or fifth trip to experience the rush of the chilli and spices in the

asian food - I was staggering under the load of all that food. My belt had to be loosened a notch or two and every mouthful became more difficult. It was not long before I felt in real danger of being ready to burst. It soon became apparent that my eyes were bigger that my stomach! The mountain of food tempting me to continue eating became overwhelming, I was struggling to clear my plate, yet I had to struggle on and do my best to clear the plate as I did not want to look wasteful. What should have been a gourmet’s delight had turned into an astronomic, gastronomic nightmare. I have never forgotten that day. I should have been content with enough but sadly, I wasn’t. We can all be guilty of something similar, wanting that little bit extra even though we have probably had too much already. It tells in the bible of Jesus teaching a large crowd of people and a voice called out “teacher tell my brother to divide

the family inheritance with me“ Jesus replied, “what makes you think it’s any of my business to be judge and mediator for you? “He continued, “Take care! protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.” (Luke 12:13-15) We can all be guilty of wanting more - even when we already probably have too much. Do the extra possessions we accumulate really bring us happiness, or is it simply another insurance risk, another item to clutter up the home, another one minute wonder soon to be discarded, another empty treasure that we hoard away that scarcely receives a second glance? It’s not only the stomach that pays the price of greed; body, mind and soul can pay also. Beware! Rev Andrew Robertson St Andrews – Lhanbryd & Urquhart Church of Scotland

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES

“Parliament Blog With the General Election in May, the last few months have been incredibly busy for those of us involved in politics. So as I’m sure you can imagine, it’s been great to spend more time with my family and have the opportunity to enjoy some of our fantastic local events now that it’s all over. Along with around 3000 others, my family managed to make it along to the Pitgaveny Farm Open Day. The weather was good, the event was great fun and hopefully lots of money will have been raised for charity. We’re really very lucky in Moray to have such a great calendar of events throughout the year, especially in the summer, and I’m certainly looking forward to making it along to as many of them as possible. Here’s hoping the sunshine attends them all too!

This is my first Spotlight Column since my reelection in May as Moray's MP and it is a further opportunity to express my gratitude to the people of Moray for once again placing their trust in me to represent them at Westminster. It is always a humbling experience for me to have so many people actively choose to vote for me and, with the help of my office staff in Elgin, I will continue to work as hard as I can on the issues that affect Moray and the people who live here. It has been slightly surreal going from a group of 6 in Westminster to a group of nearly ten times that with 56 SNP MPs but we have hit the ground running and I am privileged to be working with a strong group of MPs with such commitment and such a breadth of talent. The hard work continues! Angus Robertson MP can be contacted at Moray Parliamentary Office, 9 Wards Road, Elgin, IV30 1NL. Telephone: 01343 551111. Email: angus.robertson.mp@parliament.uk.

Crusin Clansmen We are a group of friends who decided we wanted to raise money for charity, we started in 2014 and we raised ÂŁ5000 which was split between MFR Cash for Kids and Marie Curie Cancer. We drove from Elgin to join the other 129 vehicles in Cornwall and we drove to Palu in Croatia. And then all the way back to Elgin we covered 11 countries 12 days doing 4053 miles. This year we are going on The Banger Rally Challenge again which is organised by the St Austel and District round table. We are raising money for MFR Cash For Kids, we will travel From Elgin to Salo in Northern Italy and then back to Elgin, we will be covering 10 countries in 12 days, We leave Elgin on the 30th of September. We are taking 2 cars this year and are hoping to raise more money. We will be taking the cars to different events some of which are Lossie Raft Race, Our charity fun day at Pinz, Motor Mania at Grantown. If you would like to support us and give a donation you can donate on our just giving page which is www.justgiving.com/crusingwww.justgiving.com/crusing clansmen2015 We are also looking for companies to sponsor us too, which goes towards fuel costs, road tolls, ferry fares and road vignette, as it costs around ÂŁ1000 per car to take on the rally. The companies who are sponsoring us so far are A K Cleaning Elgin, Skidcar Scotland, Calor, Ian S Roger, Pinz, Frank Ogg and Martin Hall Landscapes. If you would like to help with our sponsorship please call Josie Adamson on 07789811418, or Kev Maclennan on 07875020175 You will get your name on the cars and lots of advertising, you will also receive a certificate.

COLOURFUL SHOWS AT MORAY ART CENTRE Whatever the weather, it’s going to be a hot summer at Moray Art Centre, with exciting exhibitions, workshops and classes to enjoy. Housed in a stunningly designed, eco-friendly building within the Park at Findhorn, Moray Art Centre has been described as “a unique cultural asset for the area”. Its studios and galleries

Using acrylic and mixed media, and featuring elements of text, texture, layered glazes of colour and shimmering gold leaf, Jude’s distinctive landscapes are often inspired by the view of Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth as seen from her hillside studio outside Forres. Other landscape paintings feature interpretations of local landmarks from Dallas Dhu Distillery to Covesea Lighthouse, Lossiemouth and Elgin Cathedral. As well as painting single canvases, Jude often creates triptychs (three-panelled paintings). A cluster of small still-life canvases explore colour and composition, while the art-historical paintings create an air of mood and mystery. Paintings inspired by Monet’s waterlilies bring together Jude’s love of art-history and landscape. While Jude Edgar shows in the Main Gallery, Perth-based artist Ian McLachlan Scott returns to Moray Art Centre (from 4-26 July) in the Community Gallery with his impressive paintings of shores and seascapes created in the open air - again in the contemporary Colourist tradition.

UK FRANCHISE OF THE YEAR RUNNER UP

2013

My Grass is Mostly Weeds and Moss – Am I Too Late to Fix it This Year? No, spring and summer months are the best months to achieve an effective weedkill application. You will likely need 2 applications, 2 months apart. If you want to do this yourself, the garden centres have products on the shelves, but be careful which weedkill you buy. The total weedkillers such as Pathclear and Weedol should NOT be used on lawns. They are total herbicides for use on driveways, paths etc and kill all green leafy plants (including grass). You need a selective, broadleaf weedkiller for use on lawns. We’re actually offering to do this first weedkill for you for FREE as part of our Summer Offer (see opposite). Just get in touch by phone or email..You need to have NPTC accreditation (City & Guilds) to spray herbicides on customers’ lawns, which obviously we do. The moss clearance generally follows on in the autumn and might include both a mosskill application and scarification. The BBC Beechgrove Garden does a feature on this every year in one of their last episodes of the series You should be able to clear both weeds and moss this season therefore, if you start now.

Presented by:

Illyria has won 4 international awards and attracted numerous "5-star" and "Critics' Choice" reviews for the lively clarity of its performances of Shakespeare's comedies.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (Shakespeare) - 25th June - 19:30 - Running time: 2hr 20min (inc 20 min interval) Suitable for all ages 8+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession) Everyone wants to marry mild-mannered Bianca. No-one wants to marry her acidtongued older sister Kate. Their father won’t let anyone marry Bianca until a husband can be found for Kate – but no-one knows anyone mad enough to take her on. Until Petruchio comes to town, when sparks are guaranteed to fly!

THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE 14th July - 18:30 - Running time: Ihr 30min (inc 20 min interval) Family Fun. Suitable for all ages 5+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession) Bored of chores, the apprentice waves a wand and a broom magically fetches water. But he can’t find a spell to make it stop. In desperation he saws it in half - and everything rapidly spirals out of control… The show features the original music by Paul Dukas (as used in Fantasia), more water then you have EVER seen in a play before - and eyepopping magical illusions designed by the world famous illusionist Paul Daniels.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS 23rd July - Running time: 2hr 40min (inc 20 min interval) Swashbuckling Family Fun. Suitable for all ages 8+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession)

All for One; One for All! Young D’Artagnan is desperate to join the King’s Musketeers. He plunges headlong into a thrilling adventure, dodging Cardinal Richelieu and crossing swords with the deadly seductress Milady de Winter. Romance! Swashbuckling! Intrigue! Murder! Betrayal! Revenge...! It’s got the lot!

IOLANTHE 13th August - Running time: 2hr 0mins (inc 20 min interval) Musical comedy. Suitable for all ages 5+ (Tickets £17 adult, £10.50 child, £15 concession) Gilbert and Sullivan's most magical comic opera is set half in Fairyland, half in Westminster. Its surprisingly topical satire pokes fun at Love, Class and Politics – and on how people from different backgrounds form uneasy coalitions…. Many believe its sumptuous harmonies to be the most beautiful Sullivan wrote.

Food & Drink You are most welcome to bring a picnic to outdoor theatre at Logie Steading. Logie Whisky and Wine will be open for each Outdoor Theatre performance and have a range of bottled beers and small bottles of wine as well as their usual extensive range of wine and spirits - don't forget to bring some glasses!
