28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. …13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 8:28 & 15:13, English Standard Version)
At the Lighthouse Church, Forres we face the real prospect of a significant impact due to the potential loss of faithful members. No doubt pressure is already coming to bear down upon marriages and family life in the area. So what is my point you may ask, is there any merit in painting the inevitable gloomy picture?
Where is the hope? As ex-airman aircrew myself, once serving on 206 Sqn, it was sad for me to see the remaining flying squadrons finally disband. Undoubtedly, the impact of the closure will be felt to some measure by all of us. The serving service personnel that have settled in the area face the prospects of redundancy or posting away. Many have settled in the area owning their own homes with children well established in the local school system. Many local clubs and associations are actively supported by these people. And of course, there is the impact upon the economy, the local services and retailers. Indeed, even the local churches will be affected.
Consider the opening verses. Could the truth that these verses contain possibly have anything to say to us in Forres and district? Could this truth possibly carry people safely through their particular challenging circumstances? I believe with my whole heart that it does and can. Faith in Jesus Christ literally transforms a person’s life. Such a person is no longer defined by the nature of their immediate, temporal circumstances. Rather, their outlook, aspirations and expectations transcend to embrace a liberating reality - the sovereign will of the living God. ‘All things work together for good…’. In the light of this, even governmental decisions are put into perspective. Man is not in control but the living God. The Christian gospel is good

news about God’s hope, peace, joy, calling and purpose. I find it difficult to describe the moment when I first believed. It was as if I’d had a veil drawn back from my eyes to see reality as it is. However, the path to this first takes us to a hard, even offensive place; to the foot of the cross of Christ where our sinful condition is revealed before a holy God. But once acknowledged we’re freed to repent, count Christ’s death as payment for our sin and receive God’s forgiveness and favour. Read and re-read the opening verses, slowly and carefully. Do you find they have a strange appeal? Do you long to lay hold of the hope that is promised as your own? This hope has carried many a Christian triumphantly through the trials of adversity. Meditate upon them; let them work in and over you and maybe God will grant you mercy and grace to believe; to see your great need of Jesus Christ as Saviour. Chris Woodman, Pastor The Lighthouse Church, Forres

ExTRaCTS FROM THE RaTiFiEd MinuTES OF THE MEETing OF 21ST aPRiL 2011 OF FORRES COMMuniTy COunCiL
Public Session • Police Constable Kevin Skivington told the meeting that just over 100 crimefiles had been raised since the last meeting of which approximately 1/3rd had been detected with ongoing enquiries in relation to the others. These included a case of Public indecency, with an arrest & court appearance; 2 cases of wilful fire-raising, with a youth reported for the offence; 2 shoplifting cases, both detected and 8 cases of housebreaking, or attempted house breaking, again 2 of which had been detected. PC Skivington encouraged members of the public to pass on information to the Police either through the service centre on 0845 600 5 700 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. He said the Pub Watch Scheme had apprehended some 40 people for anti-social behaviour & banned them from participating premises and a ring round warning system is to be initiated soon to combat shoplifting increases. Finally he told us that speed checks carried out have resulted in 12 motorists being reported for speeding and a further 13 are being educated. a campaign, Operation Zenith, is endeavouring to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents in the region by improving rider behaviour. Cllr Ferris asked if there was an increase in break-ins and Cllr Mackenzie enquired if the police were notified of the movement of “bad lads” into the area but didn’t expect an answer. • Carin Schwartz advised the meeting that the Moray Small Towns Partnership & the area Forum had firmed up suggestions for the Welcome to Forres signs, and showed examples to the meeting, for their input. She also described the function signs which were being considered, and said that 10,000 more street maps, similar to the last ones, had been ordered. Wearing her TTF hat she said that a 30 year lease had been negotiated for Bogton and a LEadER grant had been applied for to equip their shed with toilets. Tain garden Club had asked if they could visit the site in June. TTF also intended investigating a car sharing scheme for its viability. • Eleanor Hayward addressed the meeting
and said that she was aggrieved by the failure of the Moray Council to make a decision on the sale of the common good land at Bogton, on the advice of the Chief Legal Officer, and that it was her intention, therefore, to raise a formal complaint against him with the Public Services Ombudsman. She said that he had failed to prove that statements he made to sway the Moray Cllrs decision had substance. • Sandra Maclennan said that following advice from the Forres Moray Cllrs she had been in contact with Mr n Carlton on the use of the plot of land adjacent to the squash courts which the young Fibees used for rearing plants. Mr Carlton had pointed out that there was no formal lease for the Fibees to use that facility and it was being considered as one of three sites for a Mental Health Facility. Cllr Hellyer said that once again the Moray Council were going ahead with plans, for common good land, that they had not discussed with the community. He called upon the Forres Moray Cllrs to stand up for the community that had elected them against officers who thought they had divine right to make decisions without consultation. Secretary’s Report • Letters were received from the Fire Brigades union asking us to support their stance on a centralised Fire Brigade in Scotland, & a Magical Mystery Tour, organised by Paths for all, on May 19th from 10am til 4pm. • Friends of the Falconer Museum invited us to attend the agM, sadly it clashes with our meeting. • Emails were received from Mr S Hoath, Solicitor, Moray Council asking if the Chair of the Community Council would act as trustee of auchernack Trust, a nomination to which he agreed. • The CC had been approached by the Chair of the Forres Kayak Club, for support in applying for a common good grant of £250. Members unanimously supported the application. Cllr Bell asked if we could also support a grant of £869.31 to repair an unadopted path, linking Bogton & Croft Road. Members again supported this grant & Cllr Bell asked the Secretary to write to nicky gosling MC.
• an email, from Margaret Cowie gave her apologies for non-attendance & listed information on litter picks, including 60 volunteers who cleaned out the Mosset Burn. The Town Hall Cinema fund has reached £10,800 and you can be a friend of Film Forres for just £5 by contacting Margaret. • a member of the public has requested back accounts of the CC from 2007 to present day. This has been referred to the Treasurer for action. Chair’s Report • The Chair asked if there were any follow up meetings on access to public buildings. Cllr Bell said that at present the policy did not include common good property. External Groups Report • Cllr duncan said that Mt dora Students would be here from 12th June to 12th July • Cllr Mackenzie said that a draft lease was nearly ready for nelsons Tower and the Trust had applied for LEadER funding to continue working on the Tolbooth which was now empty of archives. • Cllr Hayward queried the Moray Cllrs as to the holdup by the planning department on the development of the Castle which was approaching a year since it had been submitted. • Moray Cllr Creswell said that she had spoken to Mark Cross re the new Local Plan and it had been agreed that the invitation to make submissions had been slanted to developers, rather than Community Councils who normally commented after a plan had been drawn up. an invitation was extended to address the Community Council and area Forum on the subject. Treasurer’s Report • The Treasurer informed the meeting that our account stood at £1040.78 A.O.C.B. • Cllr Kennedy, supported by Cllr Hellyer, asked why tradesmen’s vehicles were banned from the dump when carrying private waste, they felt this would encourage fly tipping. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Thursday 21st July.

Firstly I must record my thanks to everyone who gave me their support at the recent election and pledge my commitment to taking forward the issues that matter to the people of Moray, and to Scotland as a whole. It's great to see so much activity in our communities, especially with projects like the war memorial restoration, which really pulls the community together. Angus Robertson MP opening ceremony on 1st July, Local Heroes nominated from each constituency will take part in proceedings and I am delighted to be welcoming Forres Community Warden Margaret Cowie, who has been nominated by the people in Moray. Margaret's dedication to her local community is recognised in the many activities that she puts her heart and soul into and she is highly deserving of the nomination. Richard Lochhead MSP

How good is good enough? Just how good does a person have to be to earn eternal life? According to God’s standard (the only standard that really counts) a person would have to live an absolutely perfect life to earn eternal life. Not one lie; not one bad thought; not one disrespectful word to their parents, etc. Perfect. Do you think you have fulfilled and maintained this strict standard? Romans 3:19 says, “...what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.â€? You see we have all broken God’s law and the whole world stands guilty before God! No one can argue that they have lived a perfect life. No one ‌ not you, not me, no one. We don’t like to think about it, but it’s true ‌we all have sinned – broken God’s law (Romans 3:10, 23). We have ALL offended a holy God, who will by no means pass by sin.
How bad is too bad?
So, none are without sin, but none are without hope, either. The Lord wants “all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4). A sinner in Bible times asked the question “What do I have to do to be saved? The answer was simple, yet profound, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31). On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ was satisfying the just demands of God’s law against sinners - He was made sin that we might, through him, be made righteous. In order for God to no longer see us as guilty hell-deserving sinners, and fit us for heaven, we each need by faith to personally accept that Christ died in our place. God’s redeeming love for sinners is found only in Christ, and the sinner is out of Christ. Put your trust in the finished work (death, burial, and resurrection) of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God will save you by faith in His Son and give you the gift of the Holy Spirit to enable you to live for Him and know Him as your Lord.“...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9). Be done with your pride and bow your knee to the Lord Jesus. Only when a sinner turns from his sin and bows to Jesus as Lord and Saviour, can he have eternal life.
Maybe you think you have sinned so much that there is no forgiveness for you. God is Holy, but He loves to forgive. God loves you and is not willing that any should perish. He showed his love toward us in that “while we were yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans No matter how good you think you are or how bad 5:8). you think you are, the Lord saves all those who come To those who turn from their sin and receive Jesus to Him in faith. The Lord Jesus says “ him that cometh to Christ as their Saviour and Lord, He assures us, “I will Me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37). forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no Reject Him no longer. Eternity in Hell is a long more (Jeremiah 31:34). . We do not have to go to that time to remember that you rejected Christ. place of torment which the Lord Jesus calls hell.
NO ONE IS SO GOOD THAT THEY DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED. NO ONE IS SO BAD THAT THEY CAN’T BE SAVED.
““The The S cripture ha th concluded concluded all under sin, tha Scripture hath thatt the pr promise omise e by faith of Jesus Christ Christ migh e giv en tto o them tha believe. by mightt b be given thatt believe.

NAIRNSHIRE FARMING SOCIETY ALL SET FOR BUMPER SHOW!
The Nairnshire Farming Society is holding its’ Annual Show on Saturday the 30th of July at Kinnudie Farm Auldearn. The Society has been mindful of recent public comment and feels that planned changes will help ensure that Nairn Show will have something for everyone with an excellent and larger food fair, many good quality trade stands,
a full and varied programme of afternoon entertainment and an excellent display of livestock in the cattle, sheep and horse sections. This years’ show is shaping up to be a very attractive and fun-filled day for all the family and we are hoping for a bumper crowd. Show goers will also be treated to a varied line up of trade stands both on the field and under canvas in the Food and Craft Fairs which will offer all kinds of merchandise from local produce, fancy goods to the very latest cars and agricultural machinery. The Food Fair will, for the first time, include a cookery demonstration. There is also a large top quality display of vintage tractors and machinery. There will also be a range of catering facilities and
a licensed bar. As ever the marquee competitions will be very competitive and no doubt will produce a wonderful display of horticulture, wine, honey, baking, produce and handicrafts. Main Ring entertainment will include the X-Treme Trials Motor Cycle Display Team, A Gun Dog Display, Nairn and District Pipe Band, Horse Show Jumping, Cheerleaders, Highland Dancing, Vintage tractor Parade, Livestock Parades and children’s races. The day will be rounded off with a marquee dance in the Showfield at night with dancing to music by The Impact.
Fun for all the Family!

Chef’s Confidential This chicken dish is a slight twist on the one we offer as part of the 2 course for £7.95 lunch special that is proving very popular.
Grilled Honey and Mustard Chicken Skewers Serves 4 4 chicken breasts cut into strips Bamboo skewers 2 tablespoons clear honey 2 tablespoons wholegrain mustard Chilli Dip 1 fresh red chilli, seeded and cut into fine dice 2 tablespoons clear honey 1 tablespoon wholegrain mustard
Cut the chicken breast into strips. Mix the honey and mustard together. Marinate the chicken in the honey and mustard mixture, for a couple of hours or overnight in the fridge. Soak the bamboo skewers for 20 minutes in water, this helps prevent them from burning. Mix together all the dip ingredients and place in a ramekin. When ready to cook place the marinated chicken on to the skewers. Cook either on the BBQ or in a frying pan until golden and fully cooked, turn halfway through cooking. Serve with a crisp salad, and minted new potatoes for a delicious light Summer dish. Penny Ellis, Owner Knockomie Hotel, Forres tel: 01309 673146

Ben Aigan
INTRODUCTION: Ben Aigan lies to the east of Rothes, the north east of Craigellachie and to the east of the River Spey which flows along the foot of its western and northern slopes. Rising to a height of 471m (1546 feet) and extensively forested apart from the summit cone, the top of Ben Aigan provides magnificent views over Speyside, south to Ben Rinnes, and away to the north over the Moray Firth to the hills of Sutherland OTHER INFORMATION: Climbing Ben Aigan as with most hills in Scotland, there are several possible routes to the summit. The route featured on the map starts at a Forestry Commission car
park near Auchlunkart just off the A95 Craigellachie to Keith road. Follow forest roads to the top of the hill. It is also possible, and perhaps more interesting, to climb the hill using the disused forest road which strikes uphill from west of Tanzie (see map). There is very limited parking here, at a Forestry Commission barrier. SIGNAGE: Partly Signed WARNING: Ben Aigan has several dedicated mountain bike trails where bikes will be travelling at speed and not necessarily expecting pedestrians. As a walker, you are advised to avoid these routes.

A SpotLight on Creel fishing by Donald Crichton
Dan Dan the Lobster Man I have had a bit of an obsession with seafood in general and shellfish in particular for some years now having first tasted a delicious spider crab in a French Restaurant in St Malo in Brittany.
The experience is best described as “interactive” involving many weird and wonderful implements to extract as much of the tender meat as possible. It can also be a lengthy process and is therefore best shared with some good friends and good bottle of wine. Shortly after this experience I tasted my first lobster and fully understand why it is often called the King of meats. Imagine my delight when someone told me that fresh local shellfish including lobsters were available near to Lossiemouth. I knew that the coastal waters along the Moray Firth were a rich breeding ground for shellfish but had always been told that it was difficult if not impossible to buy these products locally as they were all sold for export. Well – the great news is that I was completely wrong. Whilst much of the local shellfish caught along the Moray Firth Coast does indeed go for export there is now a shop outlet in Covesea
32
Café, near Lossiemouth selling cooked and raw Crab, Lobster, Langoustine and Smoked Mackerel. And who is responsible for this – one lone lossie loon – Dan Flett. Born and Bred in Lossie, Dan has been Creel Fishing (Creel is the local term for the pots used to catch shellfish) for some 40 odd years (starting after and before school at the age of 13!). Local Teacher, Jimmy Stevens, used to pick up the young Dan and take him out in all weathers and taught many of the best fishing locations, which Dan still uses today. Dan recalls that his first unofficial salary for a weeks work was £36 which in 1973 was a small fortune for a 13 year old! Dan was kind enough to invite me out on one of his fishing trips, which was
certainly an experience. Dan shared his real passion for shellfish – who else without a passion would put in back breaking shifts of 12 hours a day (minimum!)? For Dan, Creel fishing is not about the money – whilst he is able to make a living – it is more about using wisely local produce that is just waiting to be enjoyed. Dan has a cheerful and
indeed very healthy disposition which he puts down to the outdoor lifestyle, and the only thing that caused a furrowed brow was discussion about illegal fishers who did not return female’s (hen’s) back to the sea when laden with eggs which shows Dan’s commitment to the future of the Lobster stock. Whilst lobster fishing is indeed hard work Dan sees it as a labour of love and whilst he has had the occasional break for Deep Sea Trawler fishing – his heart has always been with the Creels – and from a personally biased perspective – may this long be the case! Dan’s shellfish may be purchased from Covesea Cafe, Lossiemouth 01343 815454 or direct from Dan himself at the harbourside by calling 01343 813624 or 07854861569.
Lobster with Thousand Dressing You can’t beat lobsters just as they are with a little Lemon, Mayo and Crusty Brown Bread. But if you want to be a little more adventurous without losing the fresh taste of Lobster then try this Dressing. Mix together: 3 tbsp ready made Mayonnaise
Dash of Worcester Sauce 2 tbsp Tomato Ketchup Pinch Cayenne Pepper Juice of half a Lemon A Red Pepper and a Yellow Pepper finely diced 2 tbsp Spring Onions thinly sliced Add dressing to roughly Chopped Meat from a Cooked Lobster. Serve on a Crusty Bread Roll or spoon mixture back into shell and serve with a rice salad accompanied by Crisp Lettuce Greens - and enjoy!

Local is best!
Jock with a mini box, Geordie with a standard and Archie with a crate
Fresh vegetables, in-season produce all locally grown and hand delivered directly to your door. Sounds too good to be true? This service is now available to the local community through the development of the 'Veg Box Scheme'. Many individual farms have began to offer these types of products, selections of fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm to your household, missing out the middle man giving you more value for money. Local farmer Jock Scott is no different and after years of supplying large supermarket chains with a variety of products, established the company 'Scotgro' in 2009, providing the Inverness-shire and Moray with handpicked produce from their farm at Broombank, Auldearn. The company’s main objective is to ensure the freshest products are delivered each week to their customers. Unlike supermarket produce, the seasonal vegetables, and fruit during the summer months, only ever travel the distance between the farm and your doorstep. Providing the customers with a selection of only the freshest, locally grown goods, at a competitive price. What's available from Scotgro? Scotgro offer individual boxes to suit each customers household, ranging from the 'Mini - box' packed for an individual or couple, 'Standard box' which can accommodate two to four people up to the 'crate' option which contains enough
produce for a family of up to seven people. Delivery of the boxes to your house can be arranged on a weekly, fortnight or one off basis. You also have the handy option of being able to pause your deliveries if you are having a week away or feeling 'vegged-out' Another handy element of Scotgro is that you have the option to enter which vegetables you enjoyed and those which you would prefer in your box, ensuring you wont receive anything to your household which will go to waste. Check out their website to view a full range of produce on offer, and if you think this quick and easy way to get your weekly supply of vegetables is for you, order one online now www.scotgro.com
