PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS “ Summer suns are glowing – over land and sea..” Well, perhaps not every day here in the North. We are used to just having to accept what comes our way, especially with the weather. After a couple of exceptionally mild years, we are now ... back to normal. So a cool spring is making way to a fairly normal Scottish summer. Even if we cannot get into shorts every day, there is something that warms the heart a little about that Hymn... “summer suns are glowing.” It was always sung at the close of term at school before the summer holidays. The words were written for a time when Britain had an Empire and the Sun always shone warm on some part of the Empire. Dozens of boarding schools would have been packing
children off for the Summer back to exotic places overseas, to join their parents. The sense of impending freedom from the confines of the classroom and old fashioned authoritarian rule, must have been exciting to say the least. To gain the same sense of adventure today, schoolchildren often look for some adventure week comprising a range of outdoor activities like pony trekking, hiking, kayaking and the like. There are quite a range of these centres available and there is rarely the hazard in Scotland of getting too much sun. Quite a few of these Summer activity centres have a Christian Foundation and include a daily bible study geared to different age groups. This is one great way to introduce children and

teenagers to the Bible and to open that great book to an understanding for life. Among those Summer Holiday Camps, among the most popular are the Scripture Union Camps that have many years experience teaching the bible to youngsters. PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES
“Parliament Blog ” With the General Election in May, the last few months have been incredibly busy for those of us involved in politics. So as I’m sure you can imagine, it’s been great to spend more time with my family and have the opportunity to enjoy some of our fantastic local events now that it’s all over. Along with around 3000 others, my family managed to make it along to the Pitgaveny Farm Open Day. The weather was good, the event was great fun and hopefully lots of money will have been raised for charity. We’re really very lucky in Moray to have such a great calendar of events throughout the year, especially in the summer, and I’m certainly looking forward to making it along to as many of them as possible. Here’s hoping the sunshine attends them all too!
This is my first Spotlight Column since my reelection in May as Moray's MP and it is a further opportunity to express my gratitude to the people of Moray for once again placing their trust in me to represent them at Westminster. It is always a humbling experience for me to have so many people actively choose to vote for me and, with the help of my office staff in Elgin, I will continue to work as hard as I can on the issues that affect Moray and the people who live here. It has been slightly surreal going from a group of 6 in Westminster to a group of nearly ten times that with 56 SNP MPs but we have hit the ground running and I am privileged to be working with a strong group of MPs with such commitment and such a breadth of talent. The hard work continues! Angus Robertson MP can be contacted at Moray Parliamentary Office, 9 Wards Road, Elgin, IV30 1NL. Telephone: 01343 551111. Email: angus.robertson.mp@parliament.uk.

Nairnshire Farming Society. Nairn Show 2015 Fun for all the The Nairnshire Farming Society is holding its’ 217th Annual Show on Saturday the 1st of August at Kinnudie Farm Auldearn. Nairn Show will have something for everyone with an excellent food fair, good quality trade stands, a full and varied programme of afternoon entertainment and an excellent display of livestock in the cattle, sheep and horse sections. This years’ show is shaping up to be a very attractive and fun-filled day for all the family and we are hoping for a good crowd.
Family!
There will also be display of vintage tractors and machinery, a range of catering facilities, including the return of a public catering marquee and a licensed bar. As ever the marquee competitions will be very competitive and no doubt will produce a wonderful display of horticulture, wine, honey, baking, produce and handicrafts.
Car parking is to be free this year whilst admission charges are held at £10 per Adult, £5 per concession and secondary school child, £1 per primary with pre-school children having free admission. Our charges are set at a level to cover the substantial set up costs associated with the show and also to enable the society to make donations to local clubs and charities.
Main Ring entertainment will include return visits by the Drakes of Hazard and Nairn and District Pipe Band. It will also feature a Vintage Tractor Parade, Horse and Carriage Display, The Penguin’s Tuxedo Street Band Livestock Parades and Children’s races. Horse Show Jumping will also take place in a separate arena and also in the main ring later in the day.
Visitors will also be treated to a varied line up of trade stands both on the field and under canvas in the Food and Craft Fairs which will offer all kinds of merchandise including local produce, fancy goods as well as the very latest cars and agricultural machinery. The Food Fair will again include cookery demonstrations throughout the day by various providers in a dedicated kitchen area.
The Nairn Show website, www.nairnshow.org.uk, will be updated regularly between now and show day to give the most up to date information regarding the show. The day will be rounded off with a Marquee Dance in the Showfield from 9pm to 1am with dancing to music by Sound Cradle.

COLOURFUL SHOWS AT MORAY ART CENTRE Whatever the weather, it’s going to be a hot summer at Moray Art Centre, with exciting exhibitions, workshops and classes to enjoy. Housed in a stunningly designed, eco-friendly building within the Park at Findhorn, Moray Art Centre has been described as “a unique cultural asset for the area”. Its studios and galleries
Using acrylic and mixed media, and featuring elements of text, texture, layered glazes of colour and shimmering gold leaf, Jude’s distinctive landscapes are often inspired by the view of Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth as seen from her hillside studio outside Forres. Other landscape paintings feature interpretations of local landmarks from Dallas Dhu Distillery to Covesea Lighthouse, Lossiemouth and Elgin Cathedral. As well as painting single canvases, Jude often creates triptychs (three-panelled paintings). A cluster of small still-life canvases explore colour and composition, while the art-historical paintings create an air of mood and mystery. Paintings inspired by Monet’s waterlilies bring together Jude’s love of art-history and landscape. While Jude Edgar shows in the Main Gallery, Perth-based artist Ian McLachlan Scott returns to Moray Art Centre (from 4-26 July) in the Community Gallery with his impressive paintings of shores and seascapes created in the open air - again in the contemporary Colourist tradition.
provide beautiful spaces for creating, exhibiting and viewing art. July exhibitions reflect the inspirational Scottish landscape, as well as the Colourist tradition that began a century ago, but which still runs through much contemporary Scottish painting. From 11 - 26 July, local artist Jude Edgar is exhibiting in the Main

UK FRANCHISE OF THE YEAR RUNNER UP
2013
My Grass is Mostly Weeds and Moss – Am I Too Late to Fix it This Year? No, spring and summer months are the best months to achieve an effective weedkill application. You will likely need 2 applications, 2 months apart. If you want to do this yourself, the garden centres have products on the shelves, but be careful which weedkill you buy. The total weedkillers such as Pathclear and Weedol should NOT be used on lawns. They are total herbicides for use on driveways, paths etc and kill all green leafy plants (including grass). You need a selective, broadleaf weedkiller for use on lawns. We’re actually offering to do this first weedkill for you for FREE as part of our Summer Offer (see opposite). Just get in touch by phone or email..You need to have NPTC accreditation (City & Guilds) to spray herbicides on customers’ lawns, which obviously we do. The moss clearance generally follows on in the autumn and might include both a mosskill application and scarification. The BBC Beechgrove Garden does a feature on this every year in one of their last episodes of the series You should be able to clear both weeds and moss this season therefore, if you start now.
