Making preparations My wife and I are very excited about the imminent arrival of our first child. In the next few days we look forward to welcoming our baby into the world. This will undoubtedly be a time of great joy as well as being a very steep learning curve! In order for our child’s transition into the world to be as smooth as possible, we’ve had to make some preparations. One of the most obvious preparations was to get the baby’s room organised. We’ve spent time and effort over the last few months getting this room ready. Gone is the multi-purpose spare bedroom that was a handy home for everything we didn’t really know where else to put. In has come a clean, brightly coloured nursery with some essential baby items such as a cot, a mobile, an assortment of toys and of course a big pile of nappies! We’ve tried our very best to make sure the room is as safe and as comfortable as possible. I’m sure we all know what it is like to make preparations for someone who is coming to stay, whether that is a friend who is coming for a short overnight visit

or perhaps a family member who is moving in on a more long term basis. As my wife and I have prepared the room for our baby, I couldn’t help but think about the following words of Jesus: “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2) Jesus here is talking about some incredible preparations he is making. These words come as Jesus’ life on Earth is about to end with his death on the Cross. Despite the prospect of Jesus’ suffering, he offers us great hope. The picture Jesus portrays is of heaven as his Father’s house. Through all that Jesus was about to experience by dying on the Cross and then rising from death, he is going to his Father in heaven to make some incredible preparations. I wonder if you believe in heaven, what do you think it will be like? The Bible describes heaven as a real and most amazing place, so amazing in fact that we can’t quite understand at the moment how good it will be.

But who are these rooms for that Jesus is preparing? Very simply, they are for those who trust in Jesus and follow him. Jesus tells his followers: “Trust in God, trust also in me” (John 14:1). That wasn’t a particularly easy thing for the first followers of Jesus to do. Faith can also sometimes be hard in today’s world but that is the key to knowing and following Jesus. So, as my wife and I eagerly await the arrival of our child and look forward to settling the baby into the room we have prepared, Jesus is also involved in room preparation on an infinitely grander and more significant scale than we can presently imagine. The basis of acceptance into the place that Jesus is preparing in heaven does not depend like a baby, on where you were born or who your parents are. The basis of acceptance into heaven is trust in Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Do you have faith in him? Some of the key points highlighted were as follows: the Links course would provide competitors with better preparation for the British open, which follows the Scottish open; the design of the course provided spectacular views of the highland landscape and iconic landmarks, such as Castle Stuart and fort george; the course was designed to facilitate major tournaments, taking into account requirements for television coverage, grandstands etc; the event had the potential to reach 451 million households across the World through television coverage by the BBC and Sky; the course currently had a three year contract to host the Scottish open with an option to extend to four years or reduce to two years if required; the accommodation and transport infrastructure within the surrounding area was very important to the success of the event; advance ticket sales had been very encouraging, already exceeding advance sales on last year’s event at Loch Lomond; local support was vital with over 500 volunteers required and numbers to date had been very encouraging; and there had been widespread support for the event from all the public agencies and the organisers were working closely with these agencies to ensure a traffic management plan was in place which minimised disruption to normal traffic flow. members were overwhelmingly supportive of the event, commenting that: securing the rights to host the Barclays Scottish open was a tremendous coup for such a new course; the social and economic benefits of the event would be felt around the highlands for many years to come; it would be important to ensure that inverness and the access routes to the city looked as good as possible and were maintained thereafter; any local concerns regarding traffic issues would hopefully be allayed by the multi-agency approach being taken to draw up a sound traffic management plan; the inverness events and festivals Working group was looking at ways to provide events/entertainment for visitors to the
page 12 - July 2011
city at that time; organisers should consider looking into the possibility of encouraging one of the television companies to install a giant screen in falcon Square; the Council should look at ways of supporting the event through imaginative use of empty flower beds and floral displays; and any additional funding required should not necessarily be drawn from the inverness Common good fund and alternative sources of funding should be considered. mr D haas clarified that the Director of Planning and Development was Lead officer with the City manager leading on event management and reassured members that they were not being asked to approve any additional funding from the Common good fund at this stage. any application to the Common good fund would be reasonable and proper and would be used to enhance the local and visitor experience of inverness and the activities taking place at Castle Stuart. further, members would be kept appraised of the work of the multi-agency event Planning team and there would be a briefing on the event management Plan once it was finalised. the Committee enDorSeD the activity detailed in the report, recognising the potential positive economic impact that the Barclays Scottish open golf Championship would have on both the City and highlands. Reports from the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care in respect of Services provided by the Highland Council within the City of Inverness. mr n Campbell summarised the report and highlighted the excellent work being carried out by staff to attain these grades. he commented that there was to be a change in the regulatory body and in future all inspections would be unannounced. members congratulated the officers and staff for attaining and maintaining these high grades reflecting the quality of staff working within the Service and the quality of the management and leadership. ms f gair confirmed that the grades for ach an eas had steadily improved and that the refurbishment of the premises had already started. She was confident that future reports would show even higher grades and noted members’ comments regarding the positive feedback that they had received regarding the quality of care provided there. the Committee noteD: the foregoing inspection details; the actions being taken to maintain

and improve standards in each unit; and the exceptional work being carried out by officers and staff to attain these results. Congratulations were extended to all concerned. Inverness Partnership – Events and Festivals – Review of Income Opportunities mr D haas clarified that there was sufficient quantifiable benefit for the Core events to remain free to enter, subject to this being reviewed on an annual basis. mr r Pedersen, Chair of the events and festivals Working group commented as follows: the events and festivals Working group was now working in partnership with inverness BiD, eastgate Centre and eden Court to ensure activities were co-ordinated within the City; the group was looking at ways on how the programme could be extended to become more commercial; and the group had succeeded in working within budget over the last two years. members were supportive of the report and recommendations and welcomed the opportunity the Working group had to create policy guidelines that could be used for potential partnerships in the future, without being restrictive and rigid. Some members were keen to see a Business Plan for the future which would evidence public support and show the social-economic value of the events programme to the City. mr D haas assured members that the Committee would be updated on a regular basis on events and festivals development. the events officer updated members on the forthcoming concert to support the victims of the recent tsunami in Japan and was congratulated on his work by the Committee. the Committee agreeD that: the Civic Bonfire and fireworks Display, halloween, Christmas Lights Switch on, Winter Wonderland and hogmanay events would all be retained as core events which were free to enter by the general public, with this decision being reviewed at the end of each financial year; and the City manager, in liaison with the head of Procurement, be instructed to prepare a tender document allowing for partnership arrangements to be established between the Council and the private sector for the provision of additional events within the City of inverness and landward areas, which might provide for an income opportunity. a progress report would be made to an appropriate future meeting of the City Committee.

The new Parliament with a majority SNP members feels entirely different from the first three. The mood though is not triumphalist - we do try to reach out to all parties and build up a strong case on new jobs and grasping the opportunities that lie ahead for the next 5 years. It is a younger parliament which is a good thing. Many of the new intakes are young - or at least by my 53 year old standards and they bring a passion and energy to the debates. Pulling on the dress shirt the other night to attend my
M
first formal dinner, as Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism, I made a surprise discovery. My daughter, Natasha, is 3. I put said shirt in a case, when leaving home in Boat of Garten. When I got to Edinburgh and opened the case, I discovered immediately that Tasha was thinking of me, perhaps that I was not eating enough. She put on top of my shirt in the suitcase a plate of bread and butter smeared with raspberry jam, which of course coated the front of my once crisp, ironed white shirt. So, even Ministers can be brought down to earth! Fergu s Ewin g MS P

How good is good enough? Just how good does a person have to be to earn eternal life? According to God’s standard (the only standard that really counts) a person would have to live an absolutely perfect life to earn eternal life. Not one lie; not one bad thought; not one disrespectful word to their parents, etc. Perfect. Do you think you have fulfilled and maintained this strict standard? Romans 3:19 says, “...what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.â€? You see we have all broken God’s law and the whole world stands guilty before God! No one can argue that they have lived a perfect life. No one ‌ not you, not me, no one. We don’t like to think about it, but it’s true ‌we all have sinned – broken God’s law (Romans 3:10, 23). We have ALL offended a holy God, who will by no means pass by sin.
How bad is too bad?
So, none are without sin, but none are without hope, either. The Lord wants “all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4). A sinner in Bible times asked the question “What do I have to do to be saved? The answer was simple, yet profound, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31). On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ was satisfying the just demands of God’s law against sinners - He was made sin that we might, through him, be made righteous. In order for God to no longer see us as guilty hell-deserving sinners, and fit us for heaven, we each need by faith to personally accept that Christ died in our place. God’s redeeming love for sinners is found only in Christ, and the sinner is out of Christ. Put your trust in the finished work (death, burial, and resurrection) of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God will save you by faith in His Son and give you the gift of the Holy Spirit to enable you to live for Him and know Him as your Lord.“...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9). Be done with your pride and bow your knee to the Lord Jesus. Only when a sinner turns from his sin and bows to Jesus as Lord and Saviour, can he have eternal life.
Maybe you think you have sinned so much that there is no forgiveness for you. God is Holy, but He loves to forgive. God loves you and is not willing that any should perish. He showed his love toward us in that “while we were yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans No matter how good you think you are or how bad 5:8). you think you are, the Lord saves all those who come To those who turn from their sin and receive Jesus to Him in faith. The Lord Jesus says “ him that cometh to Christ as their Saviour and Lord, He assures us, “I will Me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37). forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no Reject Him no longer. Eternity in Hell is a long more (Jeremiah 31:34). . We do not have to go to that time to remember that you rejected Christ. place of torment which the Lord Jesus calls hell.
NO ONE IS SO GOOD THAT THEY DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED. NO ONE IS SO BAD THAT THEY CAN’T BE SAVED.

Chef’s Confidential It is summer time and we all seem to spend our spare time out in the garden and this is a perfect alfresco dish without a barbeque in sight. The dish takes 50 minutes to cook and is easy and ideal to throw in the oven after a day working in the garden, ready for you to sit back and take in the work you have done, enjoying a glass of sauvignon blanc or two!
Scottish salmon with roasted asparagus and a lemon & chilli mayonnaise 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil 500g of new potatoes 10 asparagus spears, trimmed and halved 2 good handfuls of cherry tomatoes 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar 2 good sized salmon fillets 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise Juice of ½ a lemon 1 red chilli de-seeded Pre heat your oven to 200ºc. Into an oven proof dish or medium roasting tin add two tablespoons of the oil. Cut the potatoes in half and throw them in and season, give them a good shake and place in the oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes take the dish out and add the asparagus, re-season and add another tablespoon of oil then shake before replacing in the oven for a further 15 minutes. Take the dish out the oven and add the cherry tomatoes and drizzle them with the balsamic. Season the salmon and place on top of the dish. Add the final spoon of oil and replace in the oven for 15 minutes. Whilst the dish is cooking, take the chilli and chop up finely, add to the lemon juice and mayonnaise and stir all together. Once the dish is ready take it out the oven and spoon the mayo over the salmon and serve. Remember the wine!!! Allan Little, Head Chef

The mention of dolphins for most folk conjur conjure up images of far flung exotic destinations and war warm tropical seas. However,, rresidents However ea are blessed to have area esidents of the moray ar a pod of one of the world's favourite mammals, the bottle nose dolphin, living on their doorstep. Estimated to number around 130 individuals, the Moray firth dolphins are regularly spotted from both land and sea.
Whilst the dolphins can be found in the firth all year rround, ound, the summer months ar are more e usually mor e reliable as they feed on the runs of salmon returning returning to our rivers to spawn. They are a very social animal usually found in schools of up to 15. The females give birth to one calf every few years and births can take place at any time of year year.. Whilst Moray residents residents can enjoy this wildlife spectacle so close to home, other species of cetacean can be found by taking a day trip, Perhaps to Skye or Arisaig on the west coast and taking a boat trip. Local is best!
Jock with a mini box, Geordie with a standard and Archie with a crate
Fresh vegetables, in-season produce all locally grown and hand delivered directly to your door. Sounds too good to be true? This service is now available to the local community through the development of the 'Veg Box Scheme'. Many individual farms have began to offer these types of products, selections of fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm to your household, missing out the middle man giving you more value for money. Local farmer Jock Scott is no different and after years of supplying large supermarket chains with a variety of products, established the company 'Scotgro' in 2009, providing the Inverness-shire and Moray with handpicked produce from their farm at Broombank, Auldearn. The company’s main objective is to ensure the freshest products are delivered each week to their customers. Unlike supermarket produce, the seasonal vegetables, and fruit during the summer months, only ever travel the distance between the farm and your doorstep. Providing the customers with a selection of only the freshest, locally grown goods, at a competitive price. What's available from Scotgro? Scotgro offer individual boxes to suit each customers household, ranging from the 'Mini - box' packed for an individual or couple, 'Standard box' which can accommodate two to four people up to the 'crate' option which contains enough
produce for a family of up to seven people. Delivery of the boxes to your house can be arranged on a weekly, fortnight or one off basis. You also have the handy option of being able to pause your deliveries if you are having a week away or feeling 'vegged-out' Another handy element of Scotgro is that you have the option to enter which vegetables you enjoyed and those which you would prefer in your box, ensuring you wont receive anything to your household which will go to waste. Check out their website to view a full range of produce on offer, and if you think this quick and easy way to get your weekly supply of vegetables is for you, order one online now www.scotgro.com

Delicious Dining at the Roux! A Spotlight on the Rocpool Chez Roux Restaurant by Eilidh Conners Situated in the heart of Inverness, only minutes from the city centre, is the legendary Albert Roux’s Highland creation – Chez Roux. Located within the elegant boutique hotel, The Rocpool Reserve, Chez Roux offers diners French cuisine incorporating fantastic local Scottish produce. The dining room is a stylish space with stunning views and plenty of natural light. The beautiful Scottish weather deserted us so we were unable to sample the outside seating area. The framed photographs of Albert Roux scattered the walls, making an interesting talking point and adding a personal touch. Both menus – the extensive a la carte and also the altered-weekly set menu - were overseen by Albert Roux himself and focus on classic French countryside cooking with an emphasis on seasonal flavours. My companion opted for Albert Roux’s signature starter - twice baked floating soufflĂŠ with Mull cheddar and Gruyère cheese. Whilst I selected the Langoustine salad, served with apple and avocado it was delicious, light and I was eagerly anticipating the main course. When out for a meal, as a general rule I always opt for dishes I wouldn’t normally have at home. After some faltering, I finally chose the Halibut, whilst my companion opted for the Sea Bream accompanied by spring vegetables and parsley sauce. The herb crust on the Halibut was delightful and was complemented brilliantly by potato puree and wilted spinach. Whilst looking over the dessert menu, we were presented with a huge cheeseboard a selection of British and French cheeses served with home-made chutney, celery,
grapes and biscuits. Although the cheese looked tempting, the sound of the Chocolate Fondant with caramel ice-cream and hot chocolate sauce was too hard to resist for my chocolateloving self! Whilst my companion opted for another of Albert Roux’s specialities – a classic glazed lemon tart with raspberry sauce. I was not disappointed, the melted chocolate centre of the fondant was divine, as was the caramel ice cream, complemented superbly by a bitter hot chocolate sauce. My companion was also impressed with her lemon tart. After sneaking a taste, I understood why. It was light, intensely citrusy and marriaged perfectly with the raspberry sauce and fresh berries. Following our meal we were offered coffee and petit fours, either in the lounge or the bar. We decided to try out the bar – R Bar and were impressed by the attention to detail once again. Whilst here we looked over the RouXpress menu, noticing the price of only £12.95 for four courses, it seems excellent value for money and claims to be served in just 40 minutes. Chez Roux offers an outstanding fine-dining experience, with exceptional service in beautiful surroundings. An impromptu visit by the Chef whist enjoying coffee in the bar topped off the evening perfectly. I would not hesitate to recommend, or indeed return to Chez Roux myself, although I am intrigued to find out how the RouXpress food compares to the restaurant’s main menu.
