A BOAT beneath a sunny sky, Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July Children three that nestle near, Eager eye and willing ear, Pleased a simple tale to hear Long has paled that sunny sky: Echoes fade and memories die: Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes. Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near. In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream -Lingering in the golden dream Life, what is it but a dream? A poem by Lewis Carrol

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS We will all have to decide how we treat the outsider... We seem to be living in a time where it’s fashionable to hold referendums; all across Europe nations are debating on matters that effect multitudes of people, one news article recently said, ‘plebiscites in Europe - Referendumania.’ Some of these debates have, in places become violent; groups of people angering against change. ‘Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven and destroy them?’ (Luke 9:51-55) For some readers it may be a surprise to read such words especially coming from John - Jesus’ beloved disciple - he had just faced a set back by a group of Samaritans. It seems that in this first century New Testament context, political, ethnic and religious tension can affect even someone like John; allowing fear and hatred to overcome him. A lot of the media recently has focused on the movement of people around Europe, highlighting, correctly or not, the
effects of people movement on the economies of many countries within our union. Irrespective of our own personal opinions on the economic effects there is the wider issue of people in general. How do we see the outsider? How do we treat them? Do we even care? I’m from Northern Ireland and I can distinctly remember going to England many years ago, my mum and I being asked to leave a shop, I think the shop assistant associated us with certain paramilitary organisations; fear and hate resonated through the assistant. I was really too young to understand fully how it felt to be rejected from a shop just because of my accent. Although to be treated as an outsider and feel rejection is not something I would recommend. ‘Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven and destroy them?’ (Luke 9:51-55) Jesus rebuked John for succumbing to fear and hate (v55), Jesus also told a story about a Samaritan on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho (Luke 10:25-37). In this parable the Samaritan goes far

and beyond what the ‘righteous’ are prepared to do: LOVE! - if you are not familiar with this parable, it’s worth looking it up. Then there is the incredible story of the Samaritan women sharing a cup of water by the well, in this story every social convention is subverted; this story is narrated by the same John who was wanting to call down fire on an entire Samaritan village, he now narrates how an entire Samaritan town is transformed by the life giving water of Jesus. Our treatment of the outsider exemplifies either our fear and hate or our willingness to love. These are challenging times that we live in, ‘referendumania’ has taken hold, by the time you read this letter we will have voted either ‘Yes or No’ regarding our place in Europe. Either way we will all have to decide how we treat the outsider: fear and hate or love.

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES It is just over a year since I became your MP and it has certainly been a busy year. Coincidentlly, this first year anniversary coincided with the opening of my new constituency office. It was heart-warming to see a full cross section of people from across the constituency coming to the official opening. People from all walks of life: businesses, councillors, agencies, schools and citizens joined my team and I. I felt it was important to be located in the heart of the city, but we’ve already shown that we’re committed to making sure that my team and I are available and active in all parts of the constituency. We’ll carry on the hard work of the past year by continuing to get out and about, to visit people, to hold regular surgeries, including mobile surgeries, throughout the length and breadth of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.
"Oh, and Mr Ewing when coming to meet the First Minister at Bute House - enter by the front door." That message from Nicola Sturgeon’s office let me understand that I might be in for some good news! And indeed I was delighted to be appointed as her Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity. After 9 years as a junior Minister it is a privilege to step up to a Cabinet post. Sorting out the CAP Payment IT problems is my first challenge but I hope to move on to how working together we can collectively grow the rural economy. I am therefore keen to hear from "Spotlight" readers who have a part to play and we must deliver superfast broadband by 2021 or else I should be banished to the back benches!! Fergus Ewing MSP

Car parking is to be free this year whilst admission charges are held at £10 per Adult, £5 per concession and secondary school child, £1 per primary child, and pre-school children having free admission. Our charges are set at a level to cover the substantial set up costs associated with the show and also to enable the society to make donations to local clubs and charities. Visitors will also be treated to a varied line up of trade stands both on the field and under canvas in the Food and Craft Fairs which will offer all kinds of merchandise including local produce and fancy goods as well as the very latest agricultural machinery. The Food Fair will again include cookery demonstrations throughout the day by various providers in a dedicated kitchen area.

INNES HOUSE
Weddings and Corporate Entertainment A Unique place for any Occasion It is difficult to imagine a more romantic setting for your wedding than a 17th century house set in a sheltered walled garden. However, Innes is not just a stunning venue which you and your guests will never forget, but also offers a wholly flexible programme to enable you to plan your day exactly as you would like. Every wedding is unique and tailor-made for each couple. You may hold the ceremony here in the garden or in one of the two beautiful reception rooms. After the service your guests can wander around the gardens whilst you have your photographs taken in these tranquil, romantic surroundings. The reception and dinner may be held in the East Dining Room or larger parties can be held in our marquee extension which covers a walled garden complete with a summer house for the bar and a fountain around which the tables are set. After dinner you may enjoy dancing or other entertainment and then drive away down the tree lined avenue and look back on a magnificent floodlit house. Alternatively, you and some of your guests may stay the night in one of our splendidly appointed bedrooms and leave after a leisurely breakfast the next morning.
Offer extended! Any couple booking their wedding within six months of their wedding date, will be offered a complimentary wedding night accommodation along with a 'Champagne Toast' upgrade of their chosen drinks package
