I am very proud that here in the Highlands, when we work together, we get things done. That is exactly what we have to do to protect our vital air links to the UK capital. I was very concerned to learn that Flybe had sold its Gatwick landing slots to easyJet last month. And while I write this, the outcome is by no means certain. But easyJet have a good record in the Highlands and already I have seen support come in from all corners of our community – including from local politicians, business leaders and the Highland media. Following my meeting with stakeholders in Inverness, I am confident that working together we have an opportunity to put a strong case forward that will ultimately see the routes maintained. Earlier this month, I was also delighted to be part of another important community venture, as I was invited to open the St Vincent’s Therapy Garden in Kingussie. The Garden will be of great benefit to patients and staff and it is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the community bands together behind a project. The people of Kingussie should be very proud of what they have achieved in creating a spot for respite and to aid recovery for residents at the hospital. I am very much looking forward to hearing the thoughts of people using the facility in the months to come. Danny Alexander MP

This week I went ice climbing with James Bond! To open the new ice climbing facility at `Xscape, Braehead, the ‘Snow Factor’, Britain's largest indoor real snow centre, I attended and, with crampons and ice axe, climbed up the minus 8C wall with the Daniel Craig look alike, who was amiably pointing his revolver at me as we both hung off the vertical face. Bit of a change from Holyrood! Actually the Snow Factor, along with the other central belt snow starter facilities at Bearsden, Bellahouston, and Hillend in Edinburgh constitute a great opportunity for the real ski centres - in Glencoe, Nevis Range, Cairngorm, the Lecht and Glenshee. For children can try out skiing, snowboarding , and now ice climbing, in the safe surroundings of these facilities, and get the taste of the huge exhilaration and enjoyment that snow sports can bring. That first taste whets the appetite for the real McCoy. Therefore I hope that we can do more to help young people in even greater numbers learn the basics and then find for themselves the unforgettable experience of Scotlands high mountains in winter.

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS
When these summer months are upon us and the sun is shining we all think of holidays and time off to relax and enjoy ourselves. Perhaps warm summer days remind us of childhood holidays of the past; of trips to the seaside with picnics and sandcastles and games on the beach played with family and friends. Maybe rounders or cricket played with a mouldy tennis ball and a home-made bat and the dog determined to join in! All good fun and not too many rules, at least, none that couldn’t be bent by a pleading appeal of “give us another chance”. Especially when the bowl is missed or the ball is caught too soon!
Jesus was a great one for offering “another chance”. Numbered among his friends were people like Matthew and Zacchaeus, tax-collectors who were not known for their honesty, sinners and people like Mary
Magdalene who were on the fringes of that society and none too perfect. People who needed another chance from someone who would listen to them, forgive them and help them to forgive themselves.
When one of Jesus friends asked him “Lord, if my brother or sister keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive them? (Matt 18:21) He replied, “Not seven times, but seventy times because this is what the Kingdom of heaven is like”. He then went on to tell them a series of short stories or parables to show them the generosity of God who would care for them when they were feeling vulnerable or isolated or frightened, or who were just struggling with life and in need of a helping hand. And when Jesus says “seventy times seven”, he’s not meaning a literal

number, it’s just his way of saying that God’s second chances are endless. There are always opportunities to say “sorry!” to try again, and those opportunities are not just there for those who think they are OK with God but for all of us. One thing is for certain that such is God’s love and forgiveness for us that when we plead “give us another chance”, the answer will always be filled with warmth, reassurance and love.

Christ for Me Let others build their hopes of eternal happiness upon whatever foundation they please; my choice is made – it is CHRIST FOR ME. Some are resting upon their blameless character, or upon their exemplary manner of life. Others are trusting the Church and its ordinances – membership, baptism, communion, long service, or official position. I dare not build upon anything that I have done, nor on anything a fellow-sinner might do for me. My only hope is the perfect sinless work of a perfect sinless Saviour: it is CHRIST FOR ME. My nature is corrupt (Psalm 51:5 , Ephesians 2:1-3). My best is stained with sin (Isaiah 64:6 , Romans 3:23). I need a new heart, a new birth, a new life, if I am ever to enter heaven (John 3:3 , 1 Peter 1: 3&4). The work of my salvation required the Son of God, Himself God (John 1:1&2, Colossians 2:9); to take to Himself sinless manhood (John 1:14, Philippians 2:5-8), in order to die for my sins upon the cross of Calvary (Isaiah 53:5&6, 1 Peter 3:18). Only by this means could I be redeemed from the power and penalty
of sin (Ephesians 1:7), and be born of the Spirit into God’s own family (John 1:12&13). That is why it is CHRIST FOR ME. Soon we must die, or else the Lord will come again, and then every hope will be submitted to its final test. How infinitely thankful I will then be, when by the merits of Christ’s precious blood I am transported safe into His presence, that I built upon a sure foundation and not upon a foundation of sand. How grateful then, that my decision, made in life, was CHRIST FOR ME. And when time shall cease and the day of judgement shall have run its solemn course, then shall the true Rock of Salvation tower in solitary grandeur over the wreckage of every blighted hope, delusive doctrine and human endeavour. While all those who built upon any other foundation shall languish in hopeless torment and misery in the lake of fire., I shall reign with Christ in endless bliss and glory, not through any merit of my own but simply because by the mercy of God I was moved to decide - CHRIST FOR ME. All other hopes I completely and utterly abandon. I have counted the cost; I have weighed the alternatives; I have made my choice – in life, in death, and throughout eternity, it must be – and it is - CHRIST FOR ME.

Dreaming of...
SPAIN Costa Daurada in the Catalonia region of Spain is the home to Salou and Portaventura, a firm holiday favourite with families and couples looking for some sun just a short flight away. Salou is a bustling Spanish holiday resort with an abundance of bars, shops and restaurants to cater for every taste, a beautiful promenade and sandy beach. The public bus service around the area makes it very easy to explore the surrounding area, whether it is the short trip along the coast to Cambrill with its fresh seafood restaurants and peaceful surroundings, or a trip in the opposite direction towards Tarragona, to Bonavista where the Sunday market is held, which is frequented by locals and tourists alike. A visit to Salou would be incomplete without a trip to Portaventura, the theme park with its variety of rides and shows for people of all ages. Travel through the different worlds of China, Mexico, Polynesia, the Mediterranean and the Far West to experience the different concepts in each destination. For you thrill seekers Portaventura is also home to the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in Europe; you could easily spend a day here and leave half of the park undiscovered! An hours drive north of Salou is Barcelona, the capitol of Catalonia and the 2nd largest city in Spain. For a total contrast to your beach holiday in Salou a day trip to Barcelona is recommended. Spend the day wandering down Las Ramblas or exploring the city and discovering some of the stunning architecture designed by Gaudi, (highlights are the Sagrada Familia and the Park Guell). Last but not least, for any football fans, Camp Nou offers daily tours through the museum and stadium, with lots of photo opportunities, and even the chance to get your hands on the Champions League Trophy.
