Words by the Wayside “Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink." (John 7:37)
Reader, The Lord Jesus has not changed in two thousand years. He is still standing and still crying, do you have ears to hear? He loves you, He died for you, He rose again from the dead to justify you before God. Repent and believe the gospel. Repentance is being truthful before God and asking for His forgiveness which is found alone in Christ. If you reject Him, what peace can you have when you remain an enemy of God?

I saw a great advert for the Nationwide Building Society the other day which featured a young poet from London and feel motivated to share a few lines from the poem that he recited: “How can you be lonely when everything can be done with a tap or a swipe? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you do. The more you can, the less you’re inclined to do – it’s a funny kind of ruse… Imagine there were no phones, no Facebook, no online – you’d probably find the time to meet up for a cuppa or a schmooze”. The poets name is Sugar J Poet and you can listen to the full text at: www.youtube.com/embed/RnxjgoDFa-s

Local Singer /Songwritier Success Abi Rooley-Towle is a local singing and music teacher who teaches freelance at home with the world recognised Kodaly method. The KODALY approach is recognised as one of the leading approaches to music education, combining progressive, well grounded holistic learning in a child centred fun way. Abi specialises in children between 3-12 ( and adults who have missed out) teaching them to sing in tune, sight read music, love music, sing rounds and duets and develop a firm musical understanding which then allows future development to be easy and full of confidence and joy. She also is known for her person centred approach, tailoring lessons to exactly suit the needs of the student in front of her. Confidence, enjoyment and progressive achievement are qualities that her pupils ascribe to her lessons. She teaches singing, recorders and flute with this approach. But, this is not the only musical endeavour she is busy with. She is developing as a singer songwriter quite by chance, and wishing to also use it for humanitarian causes. Four years ago she wrote one song, placed it in an international songwriting competition and was amazed when it was awarded a semi finalist position. Two years ago, having written a few more songs, she decided to see if this could become part of her professional life. She contacted one of the producers who had been part of the competition and asked if he would mentor her. He agreed to this, and after listening to a number of her tracks, he said he would like to produce her....the only thing was, he was in Canada. Abi contacted Creative Scotland and asked for their help and they suggested she find a British producer and to come and make contacts at the Annual Expo North in Inverness 2016. Meanwhile the Canadian producer( who has produced grammy award winning artists) showed her songs to an American manager who then Facebooked her and asked if she would like to come to America on tour! At this point, Abi had only performed in front of the mums and kids that she teaches...so this felt way out of her league! He agreed to manage her from the ground up, and together they made a plan of what success would look like for her. At this point she had just gone to the Expo North and was amazed that three producers expressed an interest in her. She has since made links with one who is encouraging her first to get performance experience, develop as an artist, become acquainted with music online and develop a host of practical contacts and skills.....this is the current process she is working through. The American manager suggested she put a song in a humanitarian arts competition run by World Citizen Artists, who create positive change in the world by using art and music to help the causes of world peace, poverty, climate change....Their competition had the theme of children and hope and Abi, purely by chance had written a song that completely fitted these credentials. She had written a song called "When a child stands alone", inspired by the abandoned and parentless children in Europe who have fled the Syrian crisis. Their plight is tragic - at that point 27000 children were alone and parentless in Europe as a result of the crisis and of that number 10000 had simply disappeared..... Utterly horrified, she wrote a song about these children. This song was entered into the competition and from around the world, 10 winners were picked. Abi was awarded 6th place, the rest of the musicians who won are all professional recording artists who tour and make, albums....and then there was Abi, mum and music teacher from near Forres, who recorded her song in her guitarists shed!
This is a huge accolade and Abi hopes it will not only help her emerging songwriting journey, but that it can also be used by World Citizen Artist to further their cause. This year they are helping two charities, one in Guatemala to help educate the "rubbish dump children" whose families make their living from the rubbish dumps and also a charity in Africa which helps children /child soldiers effected by war. Abi was the only musician from Scotland to be picked, which puts Scotland and Moray on the map as a place that encourages its artists to think globally and see how their talents can be used to not just benefit themselves and the local area, but also folks around the world. You can follow Abi on soundcloud under her full name; Abigail Rooley-Towle. Her style is a unique mix of folk/world music with her own individual twist and approach, often using unusual and interesting instrumentation to enhance the lyrics which are a key element in her songwriting.

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES MY FIRST CAP FOR SCOTLAND
On Saturday 11 March, at Richmond Rugby Club in London, I made my debut playing rugby for Scotland, albeit representing the Scottish Parliament in the Parliamentary 6 Nations. Our opponents were a team representing the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and I am delighted to be able to write today that we came away victorious on a scoreline of 17-0! As the only woman playing on either team,-- my presence seemed to confuse some. The referee gave me the choice as to whether the game would be played with full contact. Obviously, I opted for that – if you get one chance to tackle some MPs and Lords you take it! I played on the wing and despite coming close on a few occasions, I didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet myself. But I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I loved representing Scotland and I look forward to the next game against the Dail and Seanad team on 13 May in Edinburgh. Hopefully I can convince some more women to tog out for that game.
Gail Ross, MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross hosted a Holyrood reception for the North Highland Initiative which has led and delivered the NC 500. North Coast 500 is THE reason to visit Scotland - according to Rough Guide. The 500 mile long road trip has been voted thus. Amongst other many accolades National Geographic deem it the second best experience in the world, and CNN judge the route the second best driving experience in the world, ahead of Norway’s Atlantic Road and The Great Ocean Road in Australia. This puts recognition of the NC500 on a par with some of the most famous road journeys in the world, with common reference to it being Scotland’s own Route 66. The circular road has, therefore, caught the imagination of the world. It provides visitors with a panoramic experience of some of the finest scenery anywhere. It starts and ends in our city of Inverness. My own hope, as the Convenor of the Castle delivery group, is that in a few years’ time the Castle will no longer house the Sheriff Court but be the home of a new world class visitor attraction.

A number of years ago, one Easter morning as I was about to begin my sermon, an idea came to me. One of the young families in the congregation was present, and the two boys had come to church on their scooters. I went up to the older brother and asked him if I could borrow his scooter, and he agreed. So as people were settling themselves, I went to the door, got onto the scooter and then wheeled myself up the aisle with my chasuble flowing in the wind. There was a bit of laughter, but I think the members of the congregation were a bit stunned. One of the teenagers in the congregation said she wished she hadn’t been so obedient in keeping her mobile phone switched off in church; otherwise she would have filmed it and put it on You Tube and I would have gone viral by lunch-time. The point I was trying to make was that, when they went home and
were speaking to friends or relatives, and told them that the Rector was going flying round the church on a scooter in the middle of the service, the people they were telling might find it hard to believe at first. So on that first Easter, Mary Magdalene found it hard to persuade the disciples that she had seen the risen Christ. In Luke’s gospel (24:11), we’re told the apostles thought it was an idle tale and did not believe the women. Mark ca(16:9 - 13) similarly tells that the disciples did not believe Mary Magdalene, or the two to whom Jesus appeared when they were on the road. In each of the gospels, it is only when Jesus appears to the apostles themselves that they are truly convinced. And in John’s Gospel (20:19-29), when Jesus appears in that locked room where the disciples were staying, while they accept the truth of that experience,

they cannot persuade Thomas who for some reason was absent at the time. It is only when Jesus appears a second time and Thomas is invited to touch the wounds, that Thomas accepts the truth and exclaims “My Lord and my God!” As he makes his final resurrection appearances to the apostles, Jesus gives them a commission. As witnesses of his resurrection they must now preach the message of the Gospel of repentance and forgiveness of sins in his name (Luke 24:47 and Acts1:8). There were no mobile phones in those days for things to go viral, but beginning from Jerusalem, they were to reach out to all nations (Matthew 28:18). And that is what they did. And that is possibly the greatest miracle of the Gospel. Rev John Cuthbert St John’s Episcopal Church Inverness

UK FRANCHISE OF THE YEAR RUNNER UP
2013
Protect the Bees - New Regulations for Weedkill Spraying We are now into the weed emergence period of the year. They usually come up in a lawn in 2 waves. First to show are daisies and dandelions, but clover and buttercup don’t really flower until June. Weed control by herbicide spraying is most effective when the weeds first appear and put on vigorous growth in the spring and early summer. The growth slows as the season wears on, and the weedkill becomes less effective. We have always blanket sprayed lawns for weeds in the first half of the season, then spot sprayed as required towards the end.
for every application on every lawn. We are no longer blanket spraying every lawn, but target spraying when that is adequate to treat the weeds that are present. Most of our established customers actually have very few, if any weeds, but new customers do still usually need more invasive spraying initially. The overall aim is to limit any adverse effects to pollinating insects by reducing the amount of herbicides going into the environment, which can only be a good thing, if it is done properly.
Those who spray weedkill professionally are required to undertake courses regularly to keep up to date with the latest legislation and safe application and handling guidelines, and obtain national accreditation. GreenThumb are the largest lawncare company in the UK by a country mile, and we have to renew our crop-spraying certification every 3 years. In the last couple of years, there has been widespread coverage in the media worldwide, about indiscriminate spraying of herbicides possibly affecting pollinating insects, notably bees. Much research has been conducted, and is still ongoing, but interim changes to products and practices are now coming through thick and fast. This is affecting both agriculture, and the much smaller horticulture sectors. GreenThumb for instance, now use a more sophisticated product that costs twice as much as before, and have to keep a log of the amount used
For more information about our annual lawncare plans from just ÂŁ11.25 per mth, plus useful downloads and photos, go to www.greenthumb.co.uk. Although GreenThumb is a multi-award winning national franchise, and is the runaway leader in the sector with half a million customers, we are the family-run local franchise covering the wider Moray Firth area. (Job 28:28)
Christian, you must want to be holy and must discipline yourself towards that end. Sin in the Christian's life brings dishonour to the name of Christ and sin breaks God's heart. Being a half-hearted Christian will only ensure a miserable existence. Your joy must be in your Saviour alone, reading His Word, hearing His Voice and doing His Will. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. Be wise, and know what true understanding is. www.wordsbythewayside.co.uk Registered Scottish charity SC041290

Chocolate & Passion fruit Swiss Roll The rich flavour of chocolate and passion fruit balance out each other and are a match made in heaven for this month’s sweet treat! This month’s recipe is supplied by The Peppermill Restaurant in Forres. Ingredients: 3 large eggs 100g caster sugar plus a little extra for sprinkling 75g plain flour 25g cocoa powder Pulp from 6 Passion fruits Method: Preheat oven to 2200C/4250F/Fan 2000C/Gas Mark 7. Line a 33.6cm x 22.5cm Swiss roll tin. Put the eggs and the sugar into a bowl and whisk until trebled in volume. Sift in the flour and cocoa, fold in gently with metal spoon. Bake for about 10 mins. Meanwhile sprinkle caster sugar onto another sheet of greaseproof, when the cake is baked turn it quickly onto the sugared greaseproof and place another sheet of greaseproof on top, and roll to sponge up loosely, leaving it to cool. Once cool, unroll the cake and spread whipped cream over the sponge and passion fruit pulp. reroll the sponge and slice.

This month we are making a....
Lost Sock Board
You will need... 1. Choose your text 2. Wooden Board (any size you prefer) 3. Paint (your favourite colour) 4. Clothes Pegs 5. Hot Glue or Screws 6. Picture hooks
Method First print out your text to use as stencils later. Next paint your board with your favourite colour! (remeber to paint the back, bottom and sides!) Then cut out your text to create stencils with them, then tape them down on to the board, outline with a pencil and freehand paint them on. Next attach your clothes pegs!, you can either use a hot glue gun or screw them in for a better hold, (Remember not to use too much glue as this can make the glue break off!) Now hang up your lovely new Lost Sock Board to help those lost socks find their sole mate again!
