Performance Poetry is all the rage at the moment. The younger generation standing up and delivering a very different version to traditional poetry. Below is an interesting example: The constant frustration to fill this void, something to ease the pain. What’s the cause? Nobody knows, Yet you feel the same sad emptiness every single day It leaves me feeling so empty and down like I’m missing something somehow something that’s a big part of me and once I have it, I’ll be happy I just need that one thing, this missing key, and when I get my hands on it, I’ll be complete.

Pastoral Le er & Church Meetings Back in 2012, would-be thief James Allan failed spectacularly in his attempt to rob a newsagent. Learning nothing from an unsuccessful attempt on the same shop 10 days earlier, Allan turned up wearing a balaclava and waving a toy gun. However, once in the shop, he removed his disguise, revealing his identity to the CCTV camera. He then attempted to flee empty-handed, but could not push open the door. Not realising that the door opened inwards rather than outwards, Allan tried to kick his way out of the shop. He ended up stumbling backwards onto the floor and colliding with a display of soft drink bottles which cascaded around him. Allan only succeeded in leaving when the shop assistant held open the door for him. Needless to say, he was soon in police custody. We often find it satisfying when criminals walk into the arms of
justice through their own folly, but the reality is that for every time this happens, there are many more in which the offender gets away with their crime. Life is not fair, and circumstances often do not reward wrongdoers with their just desserts. Believers in God know that He represents true justice. Life may not be fair, but God certainly is, and we may be tempted to take a bit of pleasure in the thought that He will hold people to account in the afterlife even if they escape justice in this one. The problem is that when we have a good look at our own lives, we find we are not as innocent as we might have first thought. Sure, we may look quite good when we compare ourselves to the worst criminals, but are we good enough for God? The Bible answers this question in no uncertain terms: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). God is

not comparing us with other people, He’s comparing us with His perfect standard, and we all fall far short. Suddenly the justice of God doesn’t seem such an attractive proposition! The good news is that the Bible also reveals another aspect of God’s nature: His mercy. In fact, it says that “Mercy triumphs over judgement” (James 2:13b). This is what the death of Jesus on the cross was all about. It’s opened a way for us to escape judgement and experience God’s mercy instead. That’s a way we all should choose!

SpotLIGHT Garden
10:19
Brought to you by:
The Moss Season Approaches! We live in cool maritime climate, which is ideal for moss to thrive. You cannot change the weather, and you cannot banish moss permanently, but you can control its’ infestation with some basic good husbandry, and a bit of work. I’m talking about scarifying again of course. This will also be featuring in all the TV gardening programmes and magazines about now, and it is what we at GreenThumb spend all winter doing. We will have 3 heavy blade scarifier machines out clearing (at the last count) 1,000 lawns round here. – oh joy!
lawn! An “average” lawn usually takes 2 experienced crew half a day to do with machines and blowers. The best time to tackle this is either side of Christmas. Scarifying is never recommended in the growing season because the very nature of the exercise is pretty traumatic for the grass, and some recovery time is required, during which time it looks pretty shabby. Doing it off-season allows recovery, then you put on a spring feed, and have a season of decent grass to mow. Enjoy!
Scarifying moss and thatch out is undertaken to clear the lawn surface of all the dead material and moss to allow fresh grass plants to dominate the lawn environment, providing the best conditions for absorbsion of sunlight, moisture and nutrients. If this task is overlooked (or avoided), the following season there is even more build-up, and in no time, the lawn is more moss than grass. There’s no getting away from it, this is hard work and often generates haystacks of debris.. It can be done by hand with a spring rake, but some mechanical help is really the best option for anything more than quite a small lawn. You can hire a blade scarifier for the day at some garden machinery centres, but be warned, these are pretty vicious machines and it’s only too easy to “plough” your garden, and then need a new
Scarifier Machine

By Lee Cooper
By Ruth Ware
Written by Lee Cooper, an award winning young writer from Turriff, these two books form part of an intended trilogy which chronicles the life of a man in Tillydrone facing his demons from different characters' perspectives. In “Granite Grit” a young family man, Joe is haunted by demons from a childhood blighted by his father, a notorious criminal and brutal street fighter. When Joe loses his job and spirals into debt, he turns to what he knows: Boxing. He's forced into the clutches of criminal Mr Dean, and the brutal world of unlicensed boxing. “Right Hand Man” delves into the life of Joe's father, Davie Rhodes, from a grim childhood in the Glasgow Gorbals slums, to working for The Godfather, then gunrunning for the IRA. On the run, he finds himself on “Europe's Most Wanted List” he's a survivor, but can he outrun his past?
When Harriet Westaway receives an unexpected letter telling her she's inherited a substantial bequest from her Cornish grandmother, it seems like the answer to her prayers. There's just one problem - Hal's real grandparents died more than twenty years ago. The letter has been sent to the wrong person. But Hal knows that the cold-reading techniques she's honed as a seaside fortune teller could help her con her way to getting the money. Once she embarks on her deception, there is no going back. She must keep going or risk losing everything,

Parliament Blog & Tide Times I was delighted to celebrate the first anniversary of the Scottish Government’s Baby-box scheme recently. More than 52,000 boxes have been distributed across Scotland and the latest survey showed 100% satisfaction – certainly something to be proud of! The box contains lots of useful items for the new baby’s first weeks of life and it can itself be used as a sleeping space. The boxes are having a real impact on families receiving them, and demonstrate that as a society, we value each and every child. It was great to see the box take its place in history in the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh and have an opportunity to meet “the Baby box generation” – one of whom was toddling already – time flies!

Food and Drink Fortnight at the start of September gives us all a chance to celebrate Scotland’s natural larder and the countless success stories in one of the biggest contributors to the national economy. Moray played its part, not least at a parliamentary reception to celebrate the biggest number of distilleries in operation since World War 2. Local Moray malts featured, as you’d expect. Whisky distillers have also agreed to meet me to discuss any possible help they can offer farmers and crofters should they have feed shortages this winter. It’s a further demonstration of the significant role distilleries play in the rural economy and of their understanding that communities’ wealth and well being depends on working together. And if you didn’t get round to sampling some fine Moray produce including Speyside’s finest in September, St Andrews Day is coming up!

These colder months can put a lot of pressure on families and individuals to keep their homes warm as we face rising energy costs. That’s why I’ve organised an Energy Advice Surgery at the Nairn Community Centre on the 7th of December. Individuals will be able to meet with a number of businesses and organisations, such as WarmWorks, uSwitch and SSE. They will all be on hand to offer expert advice on energy saving measures, switching providers and helping with any other energy issues. Last year’s surgery saw many constituents save hundreds of pounds by switching providers and others had long standing issues resolved by their provider on the day. Further details can be found on my website www.drewhendrymp.scot If you need any help or assistance in the meantime please don’t hesitate to call my office on 01463 611024.
