7KH %LUG 0DQ June is a busy month for all things feathered, feather adults ar are e busy feeding hungry beaks whilst others ar are e sitting on second br broods oods of eggs. TTwo wo of our summer visitors the Swallow and House Martin will be making their pr presence esence felt by the excited chirruping acr acrobatic obatic flying and piles of mess left under their nests! However for this small inconvenience it is worth having these birds near to us.
Take some time to look at the birds close up and what once looked like an ordinary black and white bird bir takes on a whole new perspective, The Swallow with its metallic blue sheen on the head back and wings contrasting with the cr creamy eamy white underparts both set of offf with the rust red red forehead forehead and thr throat oat and the elegant long tail str streamers, eamers, as a rule when you see a pair together try and compar compare e the tail str streamer eamer lengths the male is nor normally mally noticeably longer, longer, all in all a very elegant bir bird. d.
The House Martin although very similar has its own subtle plumage, it too shares the metallic blue sheen to its black feathers, however the pure white is pur e white and it has no rust rred ed on throat forehead, the thr oat and for ehead, it’s tail is short with a streamers, deep forked end but no tail str eamers, but difference the most obvious dif ference especially in flight pure powerful direct is it’s pur e white rump and power ful dir ect swooping flight, this is also the culprit that nests in the eaves of houses leaving it’s tell tale sign below. If you have these enigmatic little bir ds staying birds with you, think of the fantastic jour ney they have journey just undertaken and the sights they have seen , not to mention the perils and dangers they have encounter encountered ed on their long flight from from Africa, and think how luck you ar are e that they have chosen your house to call home.

The alternative community ‘Broken promises’ - my recycle bin is full of them. ‘Broken promises’ reads the headline on many a leaflet in the pile of election communications that arrived through my letter box in recent weeks. ‘That’s what they’ve given you, we’ll give you an alternative, a better deal! Make us the winners and you’ll be the winners’. Let’s hope so! So many similar words from so many different political parties and candidates. Have you noticed something, each time there is an election does it not seem as though it’s just so much of the same argument as the last time around? Do we really end up ‘the winners’, does anything really radical, life changing happen? For some is it just that the treadmill goes a little faster or a little slower, the incline becomes steeper and life becomes a bit harder, or if you are fortunate, a little gentler and easier? But when all else is considered, any changed community that seems to be on offer in actuality turns out to be ‘much of a muchness’. There is however, a real alternative, and a real alternative community. Something which can be life changing and radical! And the message isn’t delivered as a response to someone wanting your vote. This message has been around a long time and you can find it in the world’s most widely
Pastoral letter and Church Meetings published book. The bible. The promises in it are radical indeed and the affect of embracing them profound. Here are just a few of the promises God makes to people: • He has promised to supply every need we have. The Bible says in Philippians chapter 4 verse 19: “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”. Notice, God has obligated himself only to the extent of our needs. God doesn’t promise great material wealth, just what we need. That would include food, clothing, shelter, companionship, love, and most importantly salvation through Jesus Christ. If we think about it, the multiplicity of luxuries that we have come to think of as needs, don’t really satisfy. We can end up just wanting more. An even bigger flat screen TV, a better more upmarket newer motor car. • Sometimes it can seem to us that life just isn’t so good, never mind what the politicians promise or do. But God has promised that all things work together for good to those who love and serve Him faithfully (Romans 8:28). Now there’s an alternative. It may be difficult for us to see and understand how this is accomplished at times, but God has promised it, and He will deliver for those who love and serve him. • Another promise God made is that His grace is sufficient for us. (2 Corinthians 12:9). Quite revolutionary isn’t it? Somehow finding in the ‘alternative’ life that while its

still pleasant to have ‘nice’ things, they are no longer the driving force and that a real sense of God’s Grace, being sufficient, actually carries real meaning. •n And that ‘Grace’ includes yet other promises. That those who believe in Jesus and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins will be saved and have eternal life. Now that’s something the politicians can’t promise. All these promises of God are encapsulated in Jesus Christ. Some say that he was like a good politician, a great man, a great teacher, a man of the highest integrity, but the son of God, no. But Jesus also said of himself “I am the way the truth and the life” .and he made claim to be the son of God through whom the gift of eternal life is given. He can’t have been a great man, and great teacher of the highest integrity and also a liar. We can’t have it both ways. Many struggle to know the way to live, Jesus says “the way to live is in me”. We look for the ultimate truth, “it's me” he says. We look for a life worth living with meaning and purpose, again “it's me”. (John 14 v 6). Here is your true alternative, a new radical life, a promise that can’t be broken, and you’ll find the alternative community that lives that life in any good church near you. Rev. Specially for you! I may never meet you personally, but there is something I want to tell you. It is of such importance that I would be unkind if I didn’t let you know: yet it is so simple that you can read it in a few minutes. It is so vital that it may change your entire future: yet it is available to you at no cost whatever. It is a message that you may not like: yet you will never be able to forget it. And whether you believe it or not, it will affect you in life and in death. First of all let me emphasise that this message is absolutely true, because it is God who said it. When God makes a statement you can afford to accept it, because He cannot lie. When God makes a promise, you can rest upon it, because His promises can never fail. God will not make you believe this message – that is your choice – but He will hold you responsible for having heard it. Then let me tell you that this is a personal message to you. You cannot escape it. It brings you to the place of decision. You must either accept it or reject it. You must either say “I will” or “I will not”. You cannot be neutral. Here, then, is the message. It is an exact quotation from God’s Word, the Holy Bible:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John3:16) Now, did you ever hear such wonderful words as these before? Are they not amazing? Just think for a moment what they say! They reveal three marvellous and thrilling facts.
First, “GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD!” since you are in the world, it means that He loved you. If that does not startle you, remember that when God loved you, He loved a sinner, because that is what you are. The bible says that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23), and if you are honest you will agree. Now, although God loves you. He hates your sin. Sins will keep you out of Heaven, because God is holy and He must punish sin. Thus a holy God must find a holy way of saving sinners. Otherwise the sinner must pay for his sins, and that would mean spending eternity in Hell. The second great fact is this: “HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON”. The first statement tells you that God loved you. This statement tells you how much He loved you. He loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son! Do you know what that means? It means that the Lord Jesus Christ suffered on the cross of Calvary so that you might be saved. He shed His blood so that your sins might be put away. He died for you so that you might live in Heaven forever. You see – someone must pay the penalty for sin, either you or a sinless substitute. God gave His Son so that He could be your sinless substitute. And now for the third tremendous fact: “WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE”. What could be more wonderful? Think of it! God gives eternal life to those who believe in Christ. The Saviour has finished the work. He has died, has risen from the grave and gone back into Heaven. Now your part is to believe in Him. This simply means that you should confess that you are a sinner, realise that Christ is willing and able to meet your need, and then receive Him as your Lord and Saviour. This is the message which I had to tell you. Now you must make a decision. Will you accept Him or reject Him? Will you believe on Him or will you refuse Him? Will you bow humbly before Him or will you turn away in pride? I may never meet you upon earth, but I hope I will meet you in Heaven. If you too will accept the sinner’s Saviour, then you will be surely saved. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:35,36)

To To many people, wildlife watching is about the “sexy” species – Deer Deer,, eagles, dolphins, squirrels squirrels etc. However, look a little closer and you will find many equally fascinating creatures which ar e often overlooked. In particular, creatures particular I look forward to the are late spring when the first dragonflies and damselflies are on the wing. After spending the winter months in the nymph stage feeding voraciously at the bottom of a eam, they climb up a pond or str stream, convenient stalk of grass, shed their outer skin or exuvia and emerge as the magnificent insects emerge ound our rivers we see hovering ar around and str streams. From eams. Fr om the spectacular gold ringed dragonfly with it's bright yellow and black rings to the beautiful gr greens eens of the elegant emerald damselfly, watching these amazing insects in flight is one of the most fascinating Gold-Ringed Dragonfly Nymph experiences in the natural world.
So what is the difference difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly? Simple. If it rrests ests with it's wings at 90 degrees, it's a dragonfly. Wings parallel to the abdomen it's a damselfly. There is one exception to this rule but I’ll ignor ignore e it as it's a species not found in this area. area. You'll dragonflies and Y ou'll find d ragonflies damselflies almost anywhere anywher there great is water but a gr eat place locally is Affric. Glen Af fric. Park at the Forestry Commissions Dog Falls car park and take a walk to the beautiful Coire Coir e Loch (about half an hour) where wher e you will find a number species of both dragons and damsels. Species to look out for Common Blue Damselfly here elsewhere both her e and elsewher e in the area are ar ea ar e gold ringed, common hawker, four spotted chaser, black darter and highland darter dragonflies, and large red, common blue and emerald damselflies. A spectacular sight on a warm summers day is a large large hatch of the common blues as the air is filled with flashes of a beautiful electric blue. For more www.british-more information information on dragonflies, go to www.british dragonflies.org.uk Forestry dragonflies.org.uk . Also, the For estry commission run events led by a creatures. ranger which give a fascinating insight into the lives of these cr eatures. Since my last report, report, the Scoters have rreturned eturned to Loch Garry, with rafts birds ospreys are of 12 bir ds being seen on the loch and the Loch Lochy ospr eys ar e constantly on the nest and hopefully sitting on eggs. Dragonflies, Dragonflies, one of natures natures greatest success stories have been around for 300 million years. That's longer than the dinosaurs! Fossils have been found of a dragonfly that had a wingspan of 60cm. Imagine meeting that monster in Glen Affric? Affric? Carpet Cleaning Hints & Tips from the Team at Can-Do Services All the tips are tried and tested and if you need any further help please call the team on the numbers below. We hope that you enjoy the feature and find it useful! Month 3 of our cleaning hints and tips page and this month I thought I would share a tip with you that came from someone just picking up the phone and looking for a bit of advice. Remember advice is FREE so if you have a stubborn little problem feel free to give us a quick call. This month I would like to share with you a tip on the removal of stickers from windows, doors, walls etc. Often it can seem like the glue that is used is impossible to remove. As a rule rather than peeling stickers straight off it is often better to try and soften the sticker itself rather
than having to hack away at the glue that's left. The easiest way to soften the sticker is by using a hot steam iron. Holding the iron about 1-2 cm from the sticker spray liberally with steam this will softened the paper and the glue. Once softened take a paint scraper and carefully scrape the corner loose. This should allow the sticker to peel more easily. If not repeat until softer and easier to peel. Some more stubborn and sticky glue may require careful removal with a paint scraper. Finally using a vinegar based window cleaner remove any excess glue and dry surface thoroughly. For stain removal tips why not visit our new website at www.can-doservices.co.uk and remember advice is FREE so give us a call!

Local electrical appliances retailer JM Younie and Sons (known simply as Younies to most) is fighting hard to remind shoppers of the benefits of staying local when making household purchases. Internet based shops and multinational chains may purport to offer more, but is that the reality? How much time can we spend on comparison websites trawling feedback responses on products we cannot see or touch? Just how much technical advice is available in these big outlets?
ONLY
£299.99 cal e lo ry Freelive d
So what is Younies (and other independent stores like them) doing to combat the big retailers?
ONLY
£329.99 cal e lo ry Freelive d
Firstly - price - it may surprise some that Younies is able to compete very well on price due in large part to its membership of one of the biggest buying groups in Europe. In this way, the large buying power of “the biggies” is matched at the local level. Prices are constantly being reduced as new technology comes on stream.

Younies has a huge product range that would surprise many and has competitive prices to match. If we really want to see a local economic recovery then it is essential that businesses like Younies are able to compete with the big boys. Local businesses are truly the lifeblood of the local community and long may they thrive!
Dimplex
Thirdly - service - and this is where Younies can score really well. From the best in-store independent advice, to delivery and then to fitting an appliance. After sale service is a matter of a quick phone call to a “real” person or a revisit to the store. All of which can often be not so easy with “the biggies”.
Younies stock a huge range of electrical appliances from toasters to radios, fires, vacuum cleaners, kettles, light fittings, tv’s, kitchen white goods and much much more - why not pop in and talk to them! You may well be surprised!
Dyson
Secondly - buying experience - Stores like Younies have years (and we do mean years!) of built up experience in brand performance in electrical goods. Younies know only too well that the success of their business hinges on being able to supply products that will stand the test of time. They well know that a customer will be straight back to them with a faulty product and it is therefore in their interests to get it right first time.
