Alexander Chimney Sweep Services Clean, reliable, professional Traditional sweeping Trained to the highest industry standards

(John 7:37)

Reader, The Lord Jesus has not changed in two thousand years. He is still standing and still crying, do you have ears to hear? He loves you, He died for you, He rose again from the dead to justify you before God. Repent and believe the gospel. Repentance is being truthful before God and asking for His forgiveness which is found alone in Christ. If you reject Him, what peace can you have when you remain an enemy of God?

The nights are lighter, the days are longer. Plants emerge from winter, animals emerge from hibernation. Apparently, according to research, SUNSHINE boosts levels of serotonin the body's natural happy hormone. That's why we tend to feel happier and more energetic when the sun shines. So I am told, regular sun can stave off moderate depression, particularly if combined with exercise, such as a walk in the park. It's also been shown that exercising outdoors creates more endorphins in the body than exercising indoors. - So all I need to do now is get out there!

Would people prefer to believe a lie rather than the truth? Now, some people might point out that Easter was originally a pagan festival. Others think it has become too commercial. After all, what do bunny rabbits and chocolate eggs have to do with Jesus and his crucifixion? Yet, other people have no interest whatsoever in the stories leading up to Jesus’ death because of unbelief or indifference. Therefore, Easter can mean many things to different people. But has the biblical view of the Holy Week been overlooked because of consumerism or even falsehood? Jesus said in John 8:32, ‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’ Jesus also said in John 8:46, ‘And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?’ So why do some people not believe the words that Jesus spoke? Of course, it is important to scrutinise information to make sure that it is true and factual. What is true must always correspond to reality; otherwise, it is false! It would be foolish to deny that Jesus was a historical person who lived over 2000 years ago. In fact, there is overwhelming historical

evidence which proves the historical existence of Jesus. We have the New Testament which tells us that Jesus was crucified, and He rose from the dead. Jesus’ disciples would have had no motives to make up some false stories because they would have immediately suffered a similar fate. Furthermore, even nonChristian sources of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found outside the Bible. For example, the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. A Roman historian, Tacitus, also wrote about facts referring to Jesus. Josephus is one of the most wellknown historians of that time who describes the death of James, Jesus’ half-brother. But why did Jesus become one of us only to die a painful death on a cross? Well, the Bible teaches that we have all sinned (Rom 3:23). Even before Jesus was born of a virgin over 2000 years ago, the Bible tells us He would suffer and die for our sins. At the same time, the name, Jesus, means – Saviour. So, Jesus came to us with a special and divine purpose to save us from our sin. The ‘smallest’ and most ‘insignificant’ sin (the one we would hardly call a sin) still needed a

Saviour to die for that sin. This kind of topic can make people feel uncomfortable, but it cannot be ignored if you want to know the truth! The Old Testament Tabernacle and its animal sacrifices were all pointing to the Lamb of God, Jesus, who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). How else could reconciliation come about between God and sinful humans? The gulf between humanity and God was too wide for mankind to bridge it. Only someone that was 100% God and 100% human could bridge the gulf – Jesus was able to do just that. This was to be God`s way of reconciliation, and God`s way of proclaiming His forgiving and love. The book of Acts is very clear when it says this about Jesus in Acts 4:12, ‘Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’ This truth could radically change your life if you would only let it! Do you believe it? Rev J Dereck Grant (Church of God Nairn & Railway Mission Chaplain)

Time is flying by so quickly this year and it is hard to believe it will soon be a year since my election to the Scottish Parliament back in May last year. Farmers have been busy ploughing and preparing the land for new crops and schoolchildren have been getting ready to sit their exams. With the local authority elections taking place in May, I will be stepping down as a Councillor for the Fochabers Lhanbryde ward, an elected post I have thoroughly enjoyed holding over the last ten years. Many of the issues which I dealt with on a daily basis as a Councillor are impacted by the decisions made at the Scottish Parliament. I relish the challenges which lie ahead as my colleagues and I continue to hold the government to account and strive to deliver the best possible outcomes, not just for Moray but Scotland as a whole. Whilst bidding farewell to the Moray Council chambers, I will continue to work as hard as ever to represent the area at Holyrood.

Inverness is the fastest growing city in Scotland. Just as a child needs new clothes when growing up so a growing city needs new public services to match population growth. My role as local MSP is to advocate, persuade and encourage the authorities to secure these upgrades. The Scottish Government are funding a new Justice Campus enabling the Sheriff court to vacate the Castle. I co-chair the Castle delivery group - aiming to present plans for transforming it into a major visitor attraction. And last month, the Scottish Prison Service agreed to my plea for a more central site than Milton of Leys. All major projects must be carefully thought through, but are being delivered. THE DROUTHY COBBLER

For anyone who loves comedy, you are in for a treat. On the 5th, The Drouthy Cobbler will be hosting the hilarious Shappi Khorsandi. From her appearances on television shows like 8 out of 10 Cats, Q.I., and Have I Got News For You, to her best-selling books and her always popular stand-up shows, Shappi has gained a reputation for bringing both warmth and thoughtfulness to her views on modern life. The show she will be performing (Oh My Country!) is a love letter to the place she now calls home and features a bittersweet tale of multi-cultural England and the acceptance she came to find there. Their monthly Comedy Club (26th) will once again feature the best in Scottish comendy. It's a busy month for music at the Drouthy Cobbler, with a host of different styles. For folk and trad fans, the wonderful Gnoss (12th) will be performing. This young and dynamic four-piece of fiddle, flute, guitar, and percussion, tackle energetic tunes and driving folk songs. Having already picked up a Danny Kyle award, these young lads are destined for a great career. On the 28th, Dundee based Wire & Wool will make their second appearance at the Drouthy. Having been described as 'Full on bluegrass punk and roots revival heaven', their lively show is definitely not one to be missed. Aberdeen band Miss Lucid return to tour their self-titled debut album. Driven with punk & grunge undertones, blending it with some large sonic soundscapes and crafted melodies, this cohesive sound of anthemic and melodic guitars is bolstered with thought provoking poignant lyricism – with an abrasive pop knack. They will be supported by Audiokicks. On the 14th, Scottish rock band, Forest Fires will headline with support from Sonic Bucker. Since Forest Fires played their first show in 2011, they have been nominated at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards for “Best Newcomer” and played a headline tour across Scotland. Sonic Bucker are a bluesy-rock two piece with a style rooted in hooks and reffs. Anyone interested in the multi-disciplinary creative arts of Scotland would do well to go along on the 20th and experience Neu! Reekie! This is a literary collective run by poets, Micheal Pederson and Kevin Williamson who have been curating and producing cross-culture shows for over six years now. These occur around Scotland and internationally and have featured the likes of author, Irvine Welsh, and musicians, Primal Scream and Frightened Rabbit. It's Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival month and the Drouthy will be holding a whisky judging on the 27th, as well as a tasting by Ewan Henderson of the Lost Distillery Company (30th). In the last century, nearly half of all Scotland's whisky distilleries have closed or been lost forever and LDC were inspired to rediscover these lost legends from their home on the Dumfries House estate. Their dedicated team of archivists study historical records to piece together the life and time of the lost distillery. Using these findings, their expert nosing and tasting panel create a taste profile they feel we'd be enjoying from these legends if they were around today.

Words by the Wayside "Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding." (Job 28:28)

Christian, you must want to be holy and must discipline yourself towards that end. Sin in the Christian's life brings dishonour to the name of Christ and sin breaks God's heart. Being a half-hearted Christian will only ensure a miserable existence. Your joy must be in your Saviour alone, reading His Word, hearing His Voice and doing His Will. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. Be wise, and know what true understanding is. www.wordsbythewayside.co.uk Registered Scottish charity SC041290

My love of art began in my childhood discovering crayons, colour pencils, felt pens and paints. I enjoyed the process of transforming a blank white sheet of paper into a magical world of colour. While raising a family and working I continued to paint at home before deciding it was time for me to follow my dream to study art, so I enrolled at Inverness UHI in 2013 on the NC Art and Design course. I completed my studies in 2015 attaining my HND in Contemporary Art Practice.

During my studies at Inverness my interest in childhood, memories, identity and technology developed and this inspired me to produce a related body of work. I am happy to have had the opportunity to return to Inverness UHI this year to be part of their new degree course, Contemporary Art & Contextualised Practice BA (Hons) which presents exciting opportunities for students working on collaboration projects and art in the public realm. In my work I have found inspiration from my own children, reflecting on their childhood and considering childhood in the present day in comparison with a simpler

childhood environment which I experienced, before the digital age, when traditional play involved creative imagination, human interaction and physical outdoor play. These aspects in my childhood gave me an appreciation for nature, an understanding of colour and a desire to create. My medium includes acrylic and oil paint and I also use forms of mixed media and collage within my work. The interest I have in the subject of childhood, self identity and digital technology has developed into the theme that runs through my current work, presenting images that reveal the impact of social media on childhood. Technology has transformed our lives and the world we live in, changing the way we communicate and socialise. As an artist and a mother, through my paintings, I hope to provoke awareness of today’s digital childhood and the benefits of learning from the natural world and through real life experience.

Gluten free chocolate & almond torte This month’s recipe is supplied by The Peppermill Restaurant in Forres and is inspired by memories of childhood. Owner, Sophie Rooke, recalls enjoying this recipe in her youth with tantalising baking smells emanating from the oven. Apart from this, fond memories of licking the bowl clean of the unused mix, means it is still a firm favourite. serves approx 6-8 Ingredients: 600g dark chocolate 1 cup double cream 5 eggs 1 cup sugar 3 cups ground almonds Melt chocolate over a low heat. Allow to cool and then combine with the cream. Beat eggs & sugar until trebled in volume. Add the melted chocolate and cream into the eggs and mix well. Add almonds to the mix and pour into a greased and floured loose bottomed cake tin. Pre heat ove to 180 degrees (fan 160 degrees, Gas Mark 4) and bake until cooked.
