The Editor

As the Shows and Games season kicks fully into gear it is good to reflect on all those people that give of their time without any financial reward. People that strive to create interesting and entertaining events that may not all come off perfectly but would not exist at all without their tireless efforts. If from noone else - a big THANK YOU from me and may your works continue to be fully appreciated!

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS Passion and Ambition He never lost his passionate ambition and his light never dimmed or darkened. What an example! If you are longing for good news, and searching for the most worthwhile purpose for your life, no matter what your age, then you cannot do better than learn from this man of God. Paul was determined to travel to Rome and he wrote to those disciples of Jesus Christ in Rome saying, “I know that when I come to you I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.” What kind of man was this? Whatever did he mean? How could he accomplish and achieve anything? He had no testimonials or references from important people. He had nothing except what he called his Gospel. Ah, that is what made this man. I am coming to you with Christ - not

some new philosophy - not some fascinating ideas, nor a new political theory.

to bless people. Sometimes we are unaware of the power of blessing people.

“I am coming to you with Christ”

This man, Paul, was once so broken and he met Jesus Christ. He was a bitter, angry, religious young man, until he met Jesus Christ, when he was forgiven, reconciled with God and healed.

If ever there was a man with one subject it was Paul. Paul only had one tune, and I am glad he did not change it! If we ever change our tune, the Church of Jesus Christ is finished. Rome may not have wanted this Christ of his, but Rome needed Jesus Christ, just as Scotland needs this same Christ today. Rome had problems of race and class and morality. Paul knew that Jesus Christ was the only answer. Paul refused to be diverted, deflected, or sidetracked from holding up Jesus Christ. “I am coming to you with the blessing of Christ.” At the end of Luke’s Gospel, the risen Jesus was leaving His men, and He raised His hands and blessed them. We can be so slow

UK FRANCHISE OF THE YEAR RUNNER UP

2013

My Grass is Mostly Weeds and Moss – Am I Too Late to Fix it This Year? No, spring and summer months are the best months to achieve an effective weedkill application. You will likely need 2 applications, 2 months apart. If you want to do this yourself, the garden centres have products on the shelves, but be careful which weedkill you buy. The total weedkillers such as Pathclear and Weedol should NOT be used on lawns. They are total herbicides for use on driveways, paths etc and kill all green leafy plants (including grass). You need a selective, broadleaf weedkiller for use on lawns. We’re actually offering to do this first weedkill for you for FREE as part of our Summer Offer (see opposite). Just get in touch by phone or email..You need to have NPTC accreditation (City & Guilds) to spray herbicides on customers’ lawns, which obviously we do. The moss clearance generally follows on in the autumn and might include both a mosskill application and scarification. The BBC Beechgrove Garden does a feature on this every year in one of their last episodes of the series You should be able to clear both weeds and moss this season therefore, if you start now.

Nairnshire Farming Society. Nairn Show 2015 Fun for all the The Nairnshire Farming Society is holding its’ 217th Annual Show on Saturday the 1st of August at Kinnudie Farm Auldearn. Nairn Show will have something for everyone with an excellent food fair, good quality trade stands, a full and varied programme of afternoon entertainment and an excellent display of livestock in the cattle, sheep and horse sections. This years’ show is shaping up to be a very attractive and fun-filled day for all the family and we are hoping for a good crowd.

Family!

There will also be display of vintage tractors and machinery, a range of catering facilities, including the return of a public catering marquee and a licensed bar. As ever the marquee competitions will be very competitive and no doubt will produce a wonderful display of horticulture, wine, honey, baking, produce and handicrafts.

Car parking is to be free this year whilst admission charges are held at £10 per Adult, £5 per concession and secondary school child, £1 per primary with pre-school children having free admission. Our charges are set at a level to cover the substantial set up costs associated with the show and also to enable the society to make donations to local clubs and charities.

Main Ring entertainment will include return visits by the Drakes of Hazard and Nairn and District Pipe Band. It will also feature a Vintage Tractor Parade, Horse and Carriage Display, The Penguin’s Tuxedo Street Band Livestock Parades and Children’s races. Horse Show Jumping will also take place in a separate arena and also in the main ring later in the day.

Visitors will also be treated to a varied line up of trade stands both on the field and under canvas in the Food and Craft Fairs which will offer all kinds of merchandise including local produce, fancy goods as well as the very latest cars and agricultural machinery. The Food Fair will again include cookery demonstrations throughout the day by various providers in a dedicated kitchen area.

The Nairn Show website, www.nairnshow.org.uk, will be updated regularly between now and show day to give the most up to date information regarding the show. The day will be rounded off with a Marquee Dance in the Showfield from 9pm to 1am with dancing to music by Sound Cradle.

Illyria has won 4 international awards and attracted numerous "5-star" and "Critics' Choice" reviews for the lively clarity of its performances of Shakespeare's comedies.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (Shakespeare) - 25th June - 19:30 - Running time: 2hr 20min (inc 20 min interval) Suitable for all ages 8+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession) Everyone wants to marry mild-mannered Bianca. No-one wants to marry her acidtongued older sister Kate. Their father won’t let anyone marry Bianca until a husband can be found for Kate – but no-one knows anyone mad enough to take her on. Until Petruchio comes to town, when sparks are guaranteed to fly!

THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE 14th July - 18:30 - Running time: Ihr 30min (inc 20 min interval) Family Fun. Suitable for all ages 5+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession) Bored of chores, the apprentice waves a wand and a broom magically fetches water. But he can’t find a spell to make it stop. In desperation he saws it in half - and everything rapidly spirals out of control… The show features the original music by Paul Dukas (as used in Fantasia), more water then you have EVER seen in a play before - and eyepopping magical illusions designed by the world famous illusionist Paul Daniels.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS 23rd July - Running time: 2hr 40min (inc 20 min interval) Swashbuckling Family Fun. Suitable for all ages 8+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession)

All for One; One for All! Young D’Artagnan is desperate to join the King’s Musketeers. He plunges headlong into a thrilling adventure, dodging Cardinal Richelieu and crossing swords with the deadly seductress Milady de Winter. Romance! Swashbuckling! Intrigue! Murder! Betrayal! Revenge...! It’s got the lot!

IOLANTHE 13th August - Running time: 2hr 0mins (inc 20 min interval) Musical comedy. Suitable for all ages 5+ (Tickets £17 adult, £10.50 child, £15 concession) Gilbert and Sullivan's most magical comic opera is set half in Fairyland, half in Westminster. Its surprisingly topical satire pokes fun at Love, Class and Politics – and on how people from different backgrounds form uneasy coalitions…. Many believe its sumptuous harmonies to be the most beautiful Sullivan wrote.

Logie Whisky and Wine will be open for each Outdoor Theatre performance and have a range of bottled beers and small bottles of wine as well as their usual extensive range of wine and spirits - don't forget to bring some glasses! A bit about me I started cooking as a street vendor on the streets of Kurdistan, northern Iraq. I then moved to Baghdad where I worked in a restaurant specialising in Iraqi cuisine. This is where I learned to cook two of my speciality dishes, Mixed Biryani and Mediterranean Barbecue. I then lived in Lebanon where I learned Meze and seafood dishes before moving to France where I learned the art of pastry and bakery. I have lived in the Highlands of Scotland since the year 2000 and have worked in many great restaurants and hotels. I have also done outside catering including weddings, functions, events and dinner parties. Since coming to Scotland I have learned to cook all the Scottish favourites including Cullen Skink, possibly the world's finest fish soup, stovies & oatcakes and my personal favourite Haggis Pakora.
