Words by the Wayside “Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches…” (Psalm 52:7)
Reader, is this you? What good is anything, if you know not the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour? All for you is vanity and vexation of spirit. What if you gain the whole world and yet lose your own soul? While you are living in pleasure you are dead in trespasses and in sins, without God and without hope in this world, and yet Jesus Christ died for you. Eternity where?

Civil Rights is in the news at the moment and is something close to my heart. I have never quite understood why the colour of one’s skin or the country of one’s birth should dictate how one is treated. Here is a poem by Langston Hughes, US Civil Rights activist (1902-1967) a contemporary of Martin Luther King.

Pastoral Le er & Church Meetings Pentecost – How can I get it?
This broken warring fractured world is living on the wrong side of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and it is the task of the Church of Jesus Christ to tell the world that there are answers to all the pain, suffering, sadness and tragedy. The world would not listen to the apostles – the world would not even listen to Jesus –but it remains our task to proclaim and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Between the cross and the resurrection, the disciples were groping in the darkness. Is that not where many are today? As sin and evil tower over people, they feel hopeless, helpless and inadequate. Men continue to search for some man-made, humanistic, secular solution. How many struggle in the morass of fear and confusion? Eleven disappointed men were transformed by the risen and living
Jesus when He anointed and equipped them for the work to which they have been called and trained. They were deserters, and they knew it. These trembling followers of Jesus came from this lowest despair, to become men with a courage and confidence that was remarkable, because it was supernatural, flowing from God. That withdrawn dejected bunch became the nucleus of the greatest society this earth has ever seen – the Body of Christ – the Church of the living God. Down through the past two thousand years, men and women have taken the message of Jesus Christ around the world. You cannot explain this away on natural or psychological grounds. God’s answer and God’s solution has not changed. The Resurrection of Jesus, and Pentecost, dealt with the despair and shame in the hearts and minds

of the disciples. We approach another Pentecost. Pentecost is more than a season – and even more than an experience. Pentecost saw 120 disciples baptised with the power of God. It was not a sprinkling. They were immersed in, and saturated with, the Spirit of God. Jesus Christ did this. After Pentecost, we never again hear of negative emotions flowing from the hearts and mouths of these men and women. This same supernatural miraculous power is available today. It is for service and worship – not for self. How can I get it? Ask Jesus. Sandy Shaw Pastor of Nairn Christian Fellowship

Parliament Blog & Tide Times We have reached that time of the year again when people from all around the world visit Scotland to experience our Highland Games. We are very fortunate to have so many Games on our doorstep with the Gordon Castle Highland Games, at Fochabers, being the first of the season on 20th May. In recent years our Highland Games have been very successful in attracting more and more tourists, a trend we should all celebrate. However, if you would like to avoid the big crowds I would encourage you to visit some of the smaller and communityrun Highland Games. One of my favourites happens to be the Strathconon Games, held on 28th July. It has a warm family feel and where all the profits from the Games go towards the upkeep of the Village Hall. Visiting hidden gems like the Strathconon Games is also a great way to support local communities.
Edward Mountain MSP
Harsh winter weather creates its own challenges for farmers and crofters, who don’t get to “coorie in” until the worst is over. I want to thank everyone in Moray who helped neighbours, communities and public agencies get and keep roads and vital services open – and who do so regularly when weather is only a North Scotland issue and disappears from national view! A snapshot of farming activity in December 2017 shows the impact of adverse weather with winter planting in particular down. I am determined to help farmers through such weather-related problems which is why I set up a Weather Panel involving farming reps. It is now meeting regularly to look at what we can do to tackle short term problems like those of this year but also find ways to create more resilience in the long term. Ensuring the supply chain works effectively and efficiently for producers is key. Recent income statistics show the difference a fair price deal can make, with the value of barley increasing by £67 million in 2017 due to better yields and good prices and increased volume and better milk prices resulting in a £117 million increase. I know dairy has been in decline in areas like Moray in recent years but these figures show there is still a future for the sector and it is one I am keen to make more sustainable.

It is not long now until Summer Recess, and over the summer months I am greatly looking forward to getting out and about it across the constituency and attending the many community events. It is at this time of year all the hard work of the folk behind the scenes in our communities pays off with these fantastic events – the organisers really do the Highlands proud and often go unnoticed. It is also great to be reminded of how much our area has to offer for both locals and visitors alike. Our area offers everything from Britain’s first and only polar bear cub at the excellent Highland Wildlfie Park to the cutting edge “augmented reality” app that lets visitors learn about Inverness from the palm of their hands. For shopping, our town centres offer the best of independent retail and our booming food and drink sector means there is also plenty of top quality food and drink to enjoy along the way. I hope like me you will spend the summer seeing the best our area has to offer.

Create and store your own solar energy The Tesla Energy Powerwall 2 stores up to 13.5 kWh of excess solar energy during daylight hours when your home electricity usage is low, then discharges in the evening during those high usage/peak times saving you money. The Powerwall can be installed with new Solar PV systems or can be retrofitted to existing PV systems. A home battery system protects homeowners from future electricity price increases and reduce reliance on the national grid.
About AES Solar Established in 1979, AES Solar are the oldest solar company in Western Europe and have completed solar thermal and PV installations all over the world. We proudly manufacture our range of solar thermal panels in Forres and our aim is to make Scotland the solar capital of the world.
