A BOAT beneath a sunny sky, Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July Children three that nestle near, Eager eye and willing ear, Pleased a simple tale to hear Long has paled that sunny sky: Echoes fade and memories die: Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes. Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near. In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream -Lingering in the golden dream Life, what is it but a dream? A poem by Lewis Carrol

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS What does the word ‘Church’ mean to you? If we were to play a word association game and I said 'church', what would you say? Would you say 'building'? I reckon most of us would. How many would say 'people'? This has been on my mind a bit recently as one of the churches I work in is needing a new roof. The old one has done pretty well, lasting over 200 years, but now it's struggling to do the job. Fund raising looms, as does filling in lots of application forms for grants, all in the hope that we might literally 'keep the roof over our heads'! This is the sort of thing they don't train you for at minister school, and yet it's an important part of the job. Church buildings mean more than just convenient places of worship. They can be at the heart of a community, and often the only public building left after the school, the shop and the pub have closed.

Generations have been baptised, married and then buried in or around them. They hold a special place in people's hearts, church goers or not. And so it's easy to see why they hold such power. But it's also easy to then forget what church is all about, and think of it as a building. Peter talks of 'living stones': “Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood” 1Peter 2:4-5, NRSV).

So, the next time you're on your travels and you see a pretty church somewhere, spare a thought for whoever has the job of keeping the roof on it. But spare a thought, too, for the group of people who gather there. Be they just 10 or over 100, they are the living stones, the real church, people who want to be built into something more than just themselves and willing to be a part of a movement of love.

That's what church really is: a group of people, living stones, being built up into something. Growing together to be a place where love is found and God is worshipped, all centred around the corner stone, Jesus.

Maybe you're already a living stone, or maybe you like the idea of being one? If so, pop in and say hello there's always room for another. Although you might want to check the roof is OK first!

Our buildings are often beautiful and definitely worth preserving, but church is so much more than a building. It's a place of belonging and

The Nairnshire Farming Society is holding its 218th Annual Show on Saturday the 30th of July at Kinnudie Farm Auldearn.

Nairn Show will have something for everyone with an excellent food fair, quality trade stands, a full and varied programme of afternoon entertainment and an excellent display of livestock in the cattle, sheep and horse sections. This year’s show is shaping up to be a very attractive and fun-filled day for all the family and we are hoping for a good crowd. Car parking is to be free this year whilst admission charges are held at £10 per Adult, £5 per concession and secondary school child, £1 per primary child, and pre-school children having free admission. Our charges are set at a level to cover the substantial set up costs associated with the show and also to enable the society to make donations to local clubs and charities. Visitors will also be treated to a varied line up of trade stands both on the field and under canvas in the Food and Craft Fairs which will offer all kinds of merchandise including local produce and fancy goods as well as the very latest agricultural machinery. The Food Fair will again include cookery demonstrations throughout the day by various providers in a dedicated kitchen area.

Family

There will also be a display of vintage tractors and machinery, a range of catering facilities, including the return of a public catering marquee and a licensed bar. As ever the marquee competitions will be highy competitive and no doubt will produce a wonderful display of horticulture, wine, honey, baking, produce and handicrafts. Main Ring entertainment will include visits by Ringside Lurchers and Nairn and District Pipe Band. PARLIAMENT BLOG It is just over a year since I became your MP and it has certainly been a busy year. Coincidentlly, this first year anniversary coincided with the opening of my new constituency office. It was heart-warming to see a full cross section of people from across the constituency coming to the official opening. People from all walks of life: businesses, councillors, agencies, schools and citizens joined my team and I. I felt it was important to be located in the heart of the city, but we’ve already shown that we’re committed to making sure that my team and I are available and active in all parts of the constituency. We’ll carry on the hard work of the past year by continuing to get out and about, to visit people, to hold regular surgeries, including mobile surgeries, throughout the length and breadth of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.

Drew Hendry MP

"Oh, and Mr Ewing when coming to meet the First Minister at Bute House - enter by the front door." That message from Nicola Sturgeon’s office let me understand that I might be in for some good news! And indeed I was delighted to be appointed as her Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity. After 9 years as a junior Minister it is a privilege to step up to a Cabinet post. Sorting out the CAP Payment IT problems is my first challenge but I hope to move on to how working together we can collectively grow the rural economy. I am therefore keen to hear from "Spotlight" readers who have a part to play and we must deliver superfast broadband by 2021 or else I should be banished to the back benches!! Fergus Ewing MSP

“An exquisite dining experience!” The Drouthy Cobbler have added another string to their already impressive bow - a pop-up restaurant upstairs on Saturday nights only! For those of you looking for a refined culinary experience, look no further. On arrival the bar area buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full of relaxed, happy faces and then we were taken upstairs where the dramatic difference in decor and atmosphere was stunningly breathtaking. In contrast to the earthy, cave-like feel of the bar downstairs, the restaurant was all black with white linen, shiny cutlery, crystal clear glasses and a stylish bar. The soft music and low lighting made you feel like you were stepping into another world. Once seated we were offered water for the table and a selection of delicious breads. The staff cannot be faulted - upstairs or down - they present a friendly and upbeat attitude, communicate specials, make menu recommendations and listen well to customer orders. They are always happy to help and nothing is too much effort. Happy staff will always go the extra mile. There is a set, 3 course menu with the option of having only 2 courses and is different every time. Our selection that night was sublime. I started with Beef tartare, slow cooked egg yolk, toasted brioche and brie fondue and it was truly remarkable, perfect actually! I could've had seconds which is more a reflection on the otherworldly taste than the portion size. My husband had Spiced Orkney crab cakes, tomato & sweetcorn salsa with baby herb salad and he was equally as delighted with his taste sensation. For the main course, I decided to go with Seared tuna loin, olives, fine beans, sun dried tomatoes, jersey royals & sauce gribiche - a delightful feast for the eyes and equally as exquisite on the tastebuds! My other half was spoiled with Slow cooked Clash farm pork belly, crispy polenta, chickpea cassoulet, spinach & Stornoway black pudding - all the things that ring his bells! Dessert seemed too much to tackle alone as we were both sated, but it would've been rude not to - right? We decided to share and were recommended the Chocolate blondie with peanut butter sauce - it was served with vanilla ice cream and we were glad we 'made space' The dishes were executed perfectly both to look at and taste. I know I sound like I'm gushing, but with good cause. I'm competent in the kitchen so when I go out I love to eat something I couldn't or wouldn't make myself and this was truly a gastronomic sensation! Oh, I forgot to mention the expansive array of drinks - but we'll leave that for another time! A review by Jeff & Tamsyn - June 16
