PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS “We love because he first loved us.” (1 Jn. 4: 19, NRSV)

Jesus was arguing, follows from this. Love at the centre.

The weeks after Easter are full of love. Churches that follow the lectionary readings for any given week had a bit of a love-in going on throughout May! The focus was on love... God's love for us, our love for God, and our love for each other.

In the past few weeks, little red envelopes have been put through millions of doors across Britain. There have been bake sales, coffee mornings, soup and sandwich lunches, bungee jumps, Munro climbs, and countless other sponsored somethings, all in aid of Christian Aid. Each year, millions of pounds are raised in a single act of love.

They're all tied together. When the clever lawyer thought he'd try to catch Jesus out by asking him what the greatest commandment was, Jesus was right back at him with an answer that showed him up for missing the point. “He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Mt. 22: 37-40, NRSV). You can't do one without the other. Love God, but don't love the folks around you, and then you're not really loving God. Everything else we do hangs on this. The whole of the Bible,

It's really easy to see our neighbours next door to us, and even then it's sometimes a struggle to love them! But our neighbours out of sight, on the other side of the world....well, it's easy to forget they exist at all. Christian Aid Week was a good reminder that our neighbours are near and far, but they're all our neighbours. Each loved by God, just as we are. Like Loko, who walks for miles and miles every day just to collect firewood, hoping she has enough spare after she uses what she needs to cook something for her children. With no other income, spare

firewood is the only way to make any Without money, she is money. trapped in this endless cycle. Meanwhile, her kids are hungry, and her back is breaking doing the work of two or three people. Loko is our neighbour. Christian Aid do amazing things, and in their 70 years have been showing God's love and care to countless people all over the world. God asks us to love, first and foremost. Not to worry about doctrine or worship styles. Not to pray in the right way or sing the right songs. Love God and love each other. That's it. It's that simple. Everything else we do hangs on those two things. “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.” (Jn. 15: 9, NRSV) Let's, all of us, abide in His love. Live in it and live it out, wherever we find ourselves. Nothing else really matters, and won't the world be a better place?

Until Petruchio comes to town, when sparks are guaranteed to fly!

Suitable for all ages 5+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession) Bored of chores, the apprentice waves a wand and a broom magically fetches water. But he can’t find a spell to make it stop. In desperation he saws it in half - and everything rapidly spirals out of control… The show features the original music by Paul Dukas (as used in Fantasia), more water then you have EVER seen in a play before - and eyepopping magical illusions designed by the world famous illusionist Paul Daniels.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS 23rd July - Running time: 2hr 40min (inc 20 min interval) Swashbuckling Family Fun. Suitable for all ages 8+ (Tickets £14 adult, £8 child, £12 concession)

IOLANTHE 13th August - Running time: 2hr 0mins (inc 20 min interval) Musical comedy.
