Performance Poetry is all the rage at the moment. The younger generation standing up and delivering a very different version to traditional poetry. Below is an interesting example: The constant frustration to fill this void, something to ease the pain. What’s the cause? Nobody knows, Yet you feel the same sad emptiness every single day It leaves me feeling so empty and down like I’m missing something somehow something that’s a big part of me and once I have it, I’ll be happy I just need that one thing, this missing key, and when I get my hands on it, I’ll be complete.

Pastoral Le er & Church Meetings I’m not sure whether it’s good news or bad to loose one’s diary. A couple of years ago I managed to gift mine to a London Underground train. Not surprisingly it never turned up. The panic was considerable… not least because I wasn’t sure how much personal information I’d written in the back! Had I put any of my passwords there? Luckily I’d managed to have sufficient information on my phone to reassemble my diary dates!. However, another part of me said ‘great news’ I’ve lost my diary; good news because a quick glance would have told me that it was manic. All action and little time for me to pause and reflect. Of course a full diary may be quite convenient. It’s the perfect excuse for not having to respond positively to requests for help. ‘So sorry, I would love to help but my diary is just too full (in reality with much less pressing things!!)! It is no accident that in the Biblical account of the Creation, God ‘rested on the seventh day. God blessed the seventh day and set it apart as special. The six- one cycle was firmly established. Around 2000 years ago with Jesus’s life, death and resurrection the world was in for a change again. One of the most powerful testimonies to

the Risen Christ was that Christians moved the ‘special ‘day to Sunday, the day of Resurrection. On that day Christian communities gathered together for the Breaking of Bread, for teaching, fellowship and prayer. The principle is retained as a special day once week which should have a different pace from the rest. Thirty years ago I found myself working as a chaplain to two large retail stores on Merseyside. This was the time when stores were going over to Sunday opening. A number of stores were very reluctant but they felt they had no choice if their competitors were doing it. The staff were mostly very unhappy and saw it as a disruption to family life. The arguments were not really about Sabbaterianism… It was about every day simply being the same - the rhythm of life being lost. Well that was thirty years ago and for many people every day has just become another day. I don’t believe it was accidental that God rested on the seventh day. There’s a recognition that we need a life balance between activity and leisure, between giving out and taking in. Read the Gospels and you’re given a pretty clear picture of Jesus’ amazing work rate. It’s also clear that he often

struggled with the need to stand back, pause and reflect. Just before the feeding of the Five Thousand He sought to take a break with his disciples. “Let us go off by ourselves to some place where we will be alone and you can rest awhile. “(Mark CH6 v31) We all need to achieve a right balance in life. A crammed diary or a life of frenzied activity is no guarantee of fulfilment. It certainly is no guarantee that our priorities are right. Human relationships need working at, that means time. Above all else our relationship with God needs constant nurturing. God's pattern for the world is surely no acciden. He recognises the need for balance, for activity and for reflection; for work and leisure. Even the preacher needs to remember that she or he can’t give out if they don’t take in!! What’s you’re model for life?!!!

These colder months can put a lot of pressure on families and individuals to keep their homes warm as we face rising energy costs. That’s why I’ve organised an Energy Advice Surgery at the Nairn Community Centre on the 7th of December. Individuals will be able to meet with a number of businesses and organisations, such as WarmWorks, uSwitch and SSE. They will all be on hand to offer expert advice on energy saving measures, switching providers and helping with any other energy issues. Last year’s surgery saw many constituents save hundreds of pounds by switching providers and others had long standing issues resolved by their provider on the day. Further details can be found on my website www.drewhendrymp.scot If you need any help or assistance in the meantime please don’t hesitate to call my office on 01463 611024.

SpotLIGHT Garden

Brought to you by:

The Moss Season Approaches! We live in cool maritime climate, which is ideal for moss to thrive. You cannot change the weather, and you cannot banish moss permanently, but you can control its’ infestation with some basic good husbandry, and a bit of work. I’m talking about scarifying again of course. This will also be featuring in all the TV gardening programmes and magazines about now, and it is what we at GreenThumb spend all winter doing. We will have 3 heavy blade scarifier machines out clearing (at the last count) 1,000 lawns round here. – oh joy!

lawn! An “average” lawn usually takes 2 experienced crew half a day to do with machines and blowers. The best time to tackle this is either side of Christmas. Scarifying is never recommended in the growing season because the very nature of the exercise is pretty traumatic for the grass, and some recovery time is required, during which time it looks pretty shabby. Doing it off-season allows recovery, then you put on a spring feed, and have a season of decent grass to mow. Enjoy!

Scarifying moss and thatch out is undertaken to clear the lawn surface of all the dead material and moss to allow fresh grass plants to dominate the lawn environment, providing the best conditions for absorbsion of sunlight, moisture and nutrients. If this task is overlooked (or avoided), the following season there is even more build-up, and in no time, the lawn is more moss than grass. There’s no getting away from it, this is hard work and often generates haystacks of debris.. It can be done by hand with a spring rake, but some mechanical help is really the best option for anything more than quite a small lawn. You can hire a blade scarifier for the day at some garden machinery centres, but be warned, these are pretty vicious machines and it’s only too easy to “plough” your garden, and then need a new

Scarifier Machine

By Ruth Ware

Written by Lee Cooper, an award winning young writer from Turriff, these two books form part of an intended trilogy which chronicles the life of a man in Tillydrone facing his demons from different characters' perspectives. In “Granite Grit” a young family man, Joe is haunted by demons from a childhood blighted by his father, a notorious criminal and brutal street fighter. When Joe loses his job and spirals into debt, he turns to what he knows: Boxing. He's forced into the clutches of criminal Mr Dean, and the brutal world of unlicensed boxing. “Right Hand Man” delves into the life of Joe's father, Davie Rhodes, from a grim childhood in the Glasgow Gorbals slums, to working for The Godfather, then gunrunning for the IRA. On the run, he finds himself on “Europe's Most Wanted List” he's a survivor, but can he outrun his past?

When Harriet Westaway receives an unexpected letter telling her she's inherited a substantial bequest from her Cornish grandmother, it seems like the answer to her prayers. There's just one problem - Hal's real grandparents died more than twenty years ago. The letter has been sent to the wrong person. But Hal knows that the cold-reading techniques she's honed as a seaside fortune teller could help her con her way to getting the money. Once she embarks on her deception, there is no going back. She must keep going or risk losing everything,
