PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS We can never escape the love of God Each year as I take my turn to write the pastoral letter for Spotlight I am either at or have just returned from Army Cadet Annual Camp. This year is no different. Indeed we are just five days into our 12 day camp and life as Padre is a daily adventure. For many of the cadets this is their first time away from home for more than perhaps a weekend. And so we deal with quite a few homesick youngsters in our Padres’ room. The late nights (lights out at 11) and early mornings (alarms are set for 6.30, breakfast at 7.30) as well as the energy spent during the day and evening doing a variety of activities takes its toll. Emotions start to rise to the surface and a wee bit of tea and sympathy is required. From time to time we all find ourselves frayed around the edges: emotions running high and the stress or effort of our jobs taking a physical toll. It’s at times like these that turning to God really can help. Taking time out to spend a few minutes with God in prayer or reading a favourite passage from the Bible can make all the difference.
I have favourite passages that I turn to when I need a boost or feel I need to be reminded that the one constant in my life is never far away. One such passage is Psalm 139 - a beautiful Psalm that reminds us that we can never escape the love of God - we cannot hide from Him and He is always there. “Lord you have examined me and you know me. You know everything I do; from far away you understand my thoughts.” (Psalm 139:1-2) and then at verse 5 “You are all round me on every side; you protect me with your power.” These are wonderfully comforting words to read when feeling stressed or even homesick. The reassurance of God’s presence in our lives, reminding us that we are never alone in these words helps me out. The Psalms are a wonderful source of words - words for every occasion happiness (Psalm 146), lament (Psalm 69:1-16), confidence (Psalm 27:1-6) and thanksgiving (Psalm 40:1-10) these are just a few examples. The Bible is a big book and often it can be difficult to know where to start if you haven’t been used to church or Bible reading. The Psalms are a great place to start.

With the Army Cadets we encounter young people from a variety of backgrounds and they face different challenges during their time at camp. One of the fun things I get to do is to spend the night ‘out in the field’ sleeping under my basher in my sleeping bag and eating from my ration pack. Before bed there is usually a field exercise manoeuvre to join in before we settle for the night. Last year in the morning the adults and cadets helped construct a church in front of my basher and we held a short service before they headed out on another exercise and I headed back to camp. A privilege, a joy and great fun is how I would best describe my involvement in the cadets. The adult volunteers, staff and cadets are a real tonic but also a real inspiration. “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, my soul! I will praise him as long as I live; I will sing to my God all my life.” Psalm 146:1-2

The Editor
As we go to press, the news reports are full of stories of displaced people across the globe who appear to be desperate to improve their situation. It to be a genuine appears humanitarian issue with some troubling ramifications if we are unable to respond in a coordinated fashion. Let us hope that ‘the powers that be’ can organise sufficient aid to avoid any loss of life and offer some comfort to those people who have lost or been forced to abandon their homes.

PARLIAMENT BLOG
“ Parliament Blog ” 2015 is the Year of Food and Drink. Over the summer why not visit the local farmers shows and highland games and game fairs to enjoy the best of Scotland's natural larder, and a glass of something stimulating. The quality of offerings in our restaurants cafes and eateries has I believe been increasing over recent years. Next year is badged the year of Innovation Architecture and Design and 2017 the year of History Heritage and Archeology - with 2018 the year of Young People. Each year aims to highlight different parts of Scotland's many attractions to visitors. If you have suggestions for future themed years beyond 2018 - please let me or Visitscotland know.
It’s been a frenetic start to working as the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey, with lots of work done on fighting unfair delivery charges, seeking better mobile phone coverage options and dealing with literally hundreds of cases from constituents. Life as an MP is exactly how I expected it to be - incredibly busy and humbling. As much as I relish being in London working on people’s behalf, I just love being home in the constituency. During recess I’m taking every opportunity to get out to events across the area and following up on one of my key commitments during the election, to be accessible. To that end I’m glad to announce we now have a new website www.drewhendrymp.scot which can be visited for news of my activities, information or even to contact me directly. We will also be publishing an early ‘report card’ to outline what I’ve been doing on your behalf since being elected.

INNES HOUSE
Weddings and Corporate Entertainment A Unique place for any Occasion It is difficult to imagine a more romantic setting for your wedding than a 17th century house set in a sheltered walled garden. However, Innes is not just a stunning venue which you and your guests will never forget, but also offers a wholly flexible programme to enable you to plan your day exactly as you would like. Every wedding is unique and tailor-made for each couple. You may hold the ceremony here in the garden or in one of the two beautiful reception rooms. After the service your guests can wander around the gardens whilst you have your photographs taken in these tranquil, romantic surroundings. The reception and dinner may be held in the East Dining Room or larger parties can be held in our marquee extension which covers a walled garden complete with a summer house for the bar and a fountain around which the tables are set. After dinner you may enjoy dancing or other entertainment and then drive away down the tree lined avenue and look back on a magnificent floodlit house. Alternatively, you and some of your guests may stay the night in one of our splendidly appointed bedrooms and leave after a leisurely breakfast the next morning.
Offer extended! Any couple booking their wedding within six months of their wedding date, will be offered complimentary wedding night accommodation along with a 'Champagne Toast' upgrade of their chosen drinks package
