“The Middle-East Generator Sets Market - which also embraces the multitude of nations of North Africa,” explain Richard Teasdale, CEO/President of MEGSA, “is now generally estimated to be worth around US$ 3.27 billion in 2024, and is expected to reach US$ 4.24 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of greater than 5.30% between now and 2029.
“MEGSA fully recognises that the market is influenced by a number of factors such as the increasing demand for an uninterrupted and reliable power supply from the burgeoning Middle East data centre market. Population growth over the next 10 years is also expected to fuel increased demand for gensets.”
He concludes: “We at MEGSA understand that we are on the threshold of a major change in the independent power sector. The increasing popularity of hybrid generators and the rising reliability of the hybrid system reflects an opportunity for the industry to increase profitability whilst driving down costs and reducing dependence on a single fuel. We invite all those involved in the Middle East gen-set sector to join us in this bold, new initiative. So far almost 50 companies have joined MEGSA and we very much look forward to expanding our membership and its activities during the course of 2024-25.”
What does MEGSA offer?
MEGSA, MIDDLE EAST GEN-SET ASSOCIATION, has gone from strength to strength with over 40 + companies taking advantage of the new membership joining options, including Bahmani, Jubaili, Technopower, Staunch Machinery plus many other OEMs.
The Middle East Gen-set (Generator) market is expected to register substantial growth (3.7% CAGR) owing to the rising population and inadequate generation of power supply between now and 2030. The increased regional friction in Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the UAE has generated a significant surge in the purchase, supply and installation of independent diesel power generation options over fears of grid-based power cuts and conflict situations.
The increasing number of government offices, shopping complex and industries in the regions will enhance the development of the genset market. Additionally, increasing number of chemical and power projects is likely to further expand the growth of the market. Economic diversification backed by upsurge investment of government in infrastructure is likely to boost the growth of the industry and region.
MEGSA ambition is to be the voice for the Middle East standby and independent power sector as the professional trade body for the Middle East Gen-Set and associated products

NEWS from MEGSA members
TEKSAN EQUIPMENT IN SAUDI ARABIA
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has been undertaking large and prestigious projects in many areas, especially in infrastructure. In this period, Teksan plays a key role in the country’s transformation process by providing energy solutions to important infrastructure projects in the country. Teksan solutions are currently being used in many important projects in the country.
Teksan is providing 90 MW energy solution support with 60 generators to an ongoing infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia. The equipment provided includes items such as generator sets, switchgear containers , transformers, synchronisation ContainerS and NGRs.
The NGR is the Neutral Grounding Resistor, which is used in the electrical system to protect the transformer and generator. As the name suggests, the neutral ground resistor connects the neutral point of a transformer or generator to the ground.
A Neutral Ground Resistor (NGR) is made using materials such as Stainless Steel and Nickel Chromium Alloy (NiCr). These materials have a stable resistance which does not change with temperature. Porcelain and ceramic are used to support the resistor elements. The primary purpose of an NGR (neutral ground resistor) is to limit the ground fault current that can flow in the event of a fault in the system. This helps prevent excessive currents and associated damage to equipment during a ground fault.
The ECO38 C-Type range has many product developments designed into the alternator. C-Type alternators make the most of energy conversion to produce the maximum power to size ratio. The C-Type is now one of the simplest alternators to assemble, integrate, configure and maintain with OEM equipment. A spokesman for Mecc Alte comments: “Our aim was to deliver maximum power from the smallest, lightest and strongest alternators and our designers have lavished the C-Type with much more flexibility.
The entire series is manufactured according to, and complies with, the most common specifications such asCEI 2-3, IEC 34-1, EN 60034-1, VDE 0530, BS 4999-5000, CAN/ CSA-C22.2 No14-95- No100-95.
With the Meccalte ECO43 2M alternators self-regulation is obtained through a digital electronic regulator which is fed by an auxiliary winding. A Mecc Alte spokesman said: “We guarantee an almost constant supply from the generator – under any possible operating condition. A rotating inductor is fitted with a damper cage. The windings have a 2/3 pitch in order to reduce the harmonic content of voltage.” The series is also manufactured according to, and complies with, the most common specifications such as CEI 2-3, IEC 34-1, EN 60034-1, VDE 0530, BS 4999-5000, CAN/ CSA-C22.2 No14-95- No100-95.
