1,500 KW DIESEL GENSET SUPPLIED TO A DATA CENTRE FACILITY BELONGING TO A LEADING ISLAMIC BANK IN KUWAIT

Problems with a for a bank’s data centre operations can potentially mean losses involving millions of dollars which is why having a reliable backup power supply is of paramount importance. In June 2022 Cummins Kuwait delivered power backup equipment in the form of a a 1500 kW diesel genset, Tier 3, for the primary data centre facility of a leading Islamic bank.

The bank’s data centre features an installed capacity of 100 IT racks and bears an IT load of 680 kW.

“The capabilities of the Kuwait sales team and the Application Engineering and Project Execution teams made this complex project successful despite its unique transportation and installation challenges,” reports the contractor.

Choosing the right power level for any genset is important, and a Cummins generator is no different. Overpowering any unit has its drawbacks, such as sacrificing efficiency.

In general, most machines run best when they are between fifty and seventy-five percent of their rated capacity, reports Cummins.

Below this, however, you can compromise efficiency and cause fuel costs to skyrocket. Gensets like this can start in under 10 seconds and can assume a rated load in one step. Cummins engineers all the major components of its equipment, and the company is committed to clean air standards around the world.

The Cummins C1675D5A is a 1500 kVA Three Phase Auto Start 50Hz Open Diesel Generator featuring the Cummins KTA50-GS8 engine and STAMFORD® PI734D alternator.

Each unit is tested at one of the company’s’ top-rated manufacturing plants to ensure the highest standard of product. Perfect for deployment across the full spectrum of possible prime power, continuous duty and stationary standby applications.

The 1500 kVA is a rugged, 4-cycle industrial diesel providing reliable, low emission power and rapid response to load changes.

Controlling the unit is the PowerCommand® microprocessor electronic interface, improving start capabilities and providing total system integration (including remote start/stop and precise frequency and voltage regulation, as well as alarm and status message display).

In addition, AmpSentry™ protection provides auto-shutdown and output metering.

“If you select this generator, you can rest assured you will have access to reliable and convenient power,” reports the company The STAMFORD® PI734D alternator is a mid range alternator within the P7 series used in the C1675D5A. It is highly efficient and has good electrical performances - this makes it a preferred choice for grid code applications and combined heat and power applications. www.cummins.com

The PI734D1 is also a proven and well-respected alternator within the marine industry.

The excitation system used on the alternator is a PMG system. The PI734D1 alternator is manufactured in Craiova (Romania), Wuxi (China) and Stamford (UK).

At 50 Hz, the maximum standby power output is 1770 kVA and the maximum prime power output is 1650 kVA. The power factor for this alternator is 0.8. The total weight of the alternator is 3318 kg (single bearing).. The shipping weight of the alternator is 3391 kg and the size of the shipping crate used for this alternator is 216 x 105 x 154 cm.

The material insulation system for the PI734D1 alternator is class 1 and the ingress protection class is IP23.

The PI734D1 alternator is quality assured by the certification ISO 9001 which means the production procedures are continually monitored and kept at a high standard.
