February 7th, 2023: Rescuers are battling heavy rain and snow as they race against the clock to find survivors of a devastating earthquake in south-east Turkey. More than 17,000+ people were killed and at least 15,000 injured in Turkey and over the border in Syria when the quake struck in the early hours.

The World Health Organization has warned the toll may rise dramatically in the days and weeks following the event.

There has been severe damage to roads and the local power infrastructure with powerlines down and the grid has been affected by damage to substations, hydropower and solar facilities. Underground high-voltage cable links have also been damaged. Rescue teams and the military are using portable generators sets to power lights and digging & detection equipment.

Teams have worked through the night in the city of Adana, with lights illuminating the collapsed buildings and broken concrete structures in scenes repeated across southern Turkey.

The 7.8 magnitude tremor struck at 04:17 (01:17 GMT) on February 6th at a depth of 17.9km (11 miles) near the city of Gaziantep, according to the US Geological Survey.

A later tremor had a magnitude of 7.5 and its epicentre was in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras province. At least 1,600 people are now known to have been killed in Syria, where millions of refugees already live in camps on the Turkish border. Following an international appeal for help, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said 45 countries had offered practical support in the form of EMT teams and supplies of water, food, diesel fuel tanks, trucks, helicopters and emergency generators.

Generators used in disaster relief situations employ conventional fuel sources such as petrol, diesel, propane, and natural gas. Emergency diesel generators offer high efficiency, producing more energy on a normali basis when compared with petrol. Diesel fuel burns hotter, leaving fewer residues on internal combustion chambers, allowing for increased engine life as well. Recent developments to integrate an exhaust scrubber have affected the efficiency of diesel generators but they still outperform other gensets in terms of energy efficiency.

The European Union has sent gensets and search and rescue teams to Turkey, along with rescuers from the Netherlands and Romania on their way. The UK has despatched specialists, equipment, power units and rescue dogs. France, Germany, Israel and the US have also arrived with equipment. Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered help to both Turkey & Syria, as has Iran.

In 2022, diesel-fueled generator sets had the highest market share of about 88.0% in the 50 kVA to 150 kVA low-power generator sets market. Diesel generators with lower power ratings are used for construction and commercial applications. These generators are widely used as they are affordable and easier to maintain as compared to power generators with different fuel types. Diesel-fueled generators are generally cheaper than gas and hybrid generators. Diesel-powered generators have higher emissions than gas generators, however.

The Alfhausen cogeneration power plant is the first of three biomethane district heat projects to be rolled out in the Osnabrück region.

AGGREKO BUYING CRESTCHIC AND ALSO RESOLUTE INDUSTRIAL IN TWO DEALS WORTH A COMBINED £562 MILLION

MICROTURBINE HAS POWER GENERATION ABILITIES

New for 2023, the ARC microturbine generator from FusionFlight offer high power to weight ratio and compact dimensions making it ideal for mobile power generation.

“Originally the ARC was developed for large electrical drones to replace the heavy lithium batteries,” company CEO Alex Taits said. “This allows the drones to take advantage of the high energy density of kerosene fuel and greatly increase the range/ endurance. Later it became clear, that the ARC also has great applications as an auxiliary power unit (APU) for large fuel-based aircraft or as emergency power source during natural disasters.”

The ARC generator is based on a two-stage microturbine which has a maximum operating speed of 130,000 rpm – too high an input speed for any alternator to handle.

“The ARC utilizes two methods to bring the rpm down,” said Taits. “First, the second-stage turbine is decoupled from the first which provides significant reduction. From there, a state-of-the-art gearbox is used to bring the rpm down to its final value. Liquid fuel is circulated through this gearbox to keep it cool during operation.”

Aggreko has acquired Resolute Industrial, a major heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) rental business in North America for US$440 million.

The seller is AE Industrial Partners (AEI), a US private equity business. Resolute is based in Tampa, Florida and has around 300 employees and 38 locations across North America.

In the year to November 2022 it reported revenues of $146 million and EBITDA profits of $53 million.

The deal, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023, will be funded by new debt facilities and is subject to regulatory approvals. Resolute’s business includes both sales and rental activities.

Its rental division, Mobile Air & Power Rentals, has been active since 1989 and rents air conditioners, heaters, chillers, dehumidifies and power.

The deal follows hard on the heels on an announcement late in 2022 that Aggreko was buying UK-based powerbank specialist Crestchic for £122 million.

AEI bought Resolute in March 2019 and since then has grown the business organically and through acquisitions, including American Equipment Group, DriExpress, Empire, All American Portable Air and Rocky Mountain Portable Cooling, all US companies..

LONG-DURATION ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM FOR CALIFORNIA WILL REPLACE MOBILE DIESEL GENSETS

California will soon receive a long-duration energy storage system designed to integrate short-duration batteries and long-duration fuel cells. Energy Vault Holdings and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) are partnering to deploy and operate a utility-scale battery plus green hydrogen long-duration energy storage system (BH-ESS) with a minimum of 293 MWh of dispatchable carbon-free energy.

The BH-ESS is designed to power downtown and the surrounding area of the Northern California City of Calistoga for a minimum of 48 hours during planned outages and potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), which is when the powerlines serving the surrounding area must be turned off for safety due to high wildfire risk.

PG&E submitted the project contract for review and approval to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on December 30, 2022, with a request for the issuance of a final resolution approving the project by May 15, 2023. The energy storage system will be owned, operated and maintained by Energy Vault while providing dispatchable power under a long-term tolling agreement with PG&E. The system’s capacity may be expanded to 700MWh, which would allow it to operate for longer without refueling, enabling further flexibility for PG&E and the City of Calistoga.

Energy Vault’s BH-ESS will replace the typical, mobile diesel generators used to energize PG&E’s Calistoga microgrid during broader grid outages. The project represents a major advance in community-scale microgrid development and a significant step toward realizing the CPUC’s vision of cleaner forms of microgrid generation.

“PG&E selected Energy Vault’s innovative hybrid architecture and design to create a cost-effective, community-scale, fully carbon-free microgrid that can store and dispatch on-demand renewable energy,” said Ron Richardson, Regional Vice President, North Bay and North Coast, PG&E.

“This breakthrough collaboration between PG&E and Energy Vault provides a template for future, renewable community-scale microgrids that successfully integrate third-party distributed energy resources, which is expected to cost customers less than the benchmark set by state regulators based on the alternative use of mobile diesel generators.”

The system is anticipated to provide carbon-free energy for the Calistoga community of more than 2,000 electric customers for a period of 48 hours with a hybrid architecture that will allow for grid forming and black start capabilities, with the potential to further expand the project’s capacity in the future up to 700MWh.

BATTERY PRODUCTION FACILITY EXPANSION DUE

In addition to a new production facility in Austria, John Deere has announced that it is making an immediate investment in two additional locations to increase the production capacity expansion to over 2 GWh at the Kreisel Electric plant.

Kreisel is the battery technology specialist in which John Deere has acquired majority ownership. Offering innovative battery technology Kreisel Electric is regarded as a key supplier to European manufacturers of mobile and stationary energy storage systems. PROTOTYPE HYDROGEN ENGINE SUCCESSFUL IN RECENT TRIALS HELD IN CHINA

China Yuchai International Limited has announced that the company’s YCK05 hydrogen-fuelled engine achieved stable ignition and operation in a recent demonstration at the Beijing Institute of Technology.

The YCK05 engine is the first operating hydrogen engine for commercial applications in China. This successful achievement is another Yuchai hydrogen technology milestone in the development of hydrogen energy as an environmentally-friendly alternative system, following the introduction of Yuchai’s hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The YCK05 hydrogen-powered engine adopts a number of advanced special technologies such as high-pressure multi-point inlet air injection technology, high-efficiency low-inertia turbocharging technology, high-efficiency lean burn combustion technology, etc.

The engine design upgrades the engine structure and its subsystems such as the combustion and gas distribution systems.

Yuchai took the lead in initiating the research and development of hydrogen-powered engines for China’s domestic & commercial markets and recently strengthened its scientific research cooperation with the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Yuchai will use its extensive experience and advantages in the research and development of internal combustion engines, to develop a solid process to transform hydrogen-powered engine developments into large-scale mass production of these engines.

FUEL CELL INVESTMENT WILL IMPROVE ENERGY LEVELS IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES

Generac Power Systems has made an equity investment in Watt Fuel Cell Corp., a Pennsylvania-based developer and manufacturer of low emissions solid oxide fuel cell stacks and systems.

Watt produces commercial SOFC products for small scale and remote power applications, including marine, RV, military, oil & gas and residential applications.

The SOFC units generate electricity from hydrogen molecules derived from any of several fuel options, including propane, natural gas or hydrogen.

The company’s Imperium fuel cell for home standby applications is a 1 kW hybrid SOFC unit that operates on natural gas. Generac and Watt plan to collaborate on the design and development of low-emission solutions supporting the resiliency needs of Generac’s customers. The companies will combine Watt’s fuel cell technology with Generac’s clean energy portfolio of products, which includes microinverters and battery storage system solutions.

“We are excited about this investment in Watt Fuel Cell and look forward to collaborating towards the integration of this advanced technology into the Generac Home Energy Ecosystem,” said Patrick Forsythe, chief technical officer at Generac.

“Generac is the perfect partner to assist us in accelerating the development and commercialization of our fuel cell power generation technology,” said Caine Finnerty, president and co-founder of Watt.

Scale Microgrids has signed a contract to design, build, own and operate an off-grid clean energy microgrid providing cheaper, cleaner and more reliable power for Almond World’s refrigerated cold storage facility.

This comprises two 250,000 sq. ft. buildings built to hold approximately 50 million pounds of almonds or other crops for farmers and processors.

Cold storage for California’s agricultural industry is a critical link in the supply chain.

The facility in Madera is expected to provide shortand long-term storage and will increase profitability, extend almond shelf life by up to two years, and simplify hold costs and logistics when it becomes operational later in 2023.

The new microgrid system will include 1,200 kW of rooftop solar. Storage of the solar energy will be provided by a

1,200 kW/ 2,400 kWh battery system. The system will also include two 1200 kW natural gas generators.

“Central California produces 60% of all the nuts and citrus consumed in the U.S. each year, the almond industry alone produces 80% of the world’s global supply,” comments Adam Hayner,, involved with the project.

“We believe that these new cold storage facilities will support local farmers through empowering them to more efficiently manage the sale of their crops over longer periods and ultimately to deliver higher profitability. To achieve this, we are building temperature-controlled storage.”

MANITOU BUYS KEY STAKE IN LITHIUM-ION BATTERY PROVIDER

Manitou Group has announced the acquisition of an 82% stake in easyLi, a specialist in the design and production of lithium-ion batteries.

Founded in 2011, France-based easyLi manufactures and maintains lithium-ion battery systems for electric mobility and stationary energy storage solutions. It has 25 employees and is based in the Poitiers, Futuroscope business district. The deal provides the group with an energy transition advantage and will expand its capabilties in R&D in the production and reconditioning of batteries. Michel Denis, president and CEO of the Group, explained, “easyLi’s expertise adds substantial value to our organisation. By internalising this expertise, we are going to be able to study machine-battery interactions in depth and thus continue to reduce total cost of ownership for our users. This operation is in keeping with our research and development plan.”

BI-ENERGY TECHNOLOGY COMBINES BATTERY PACK & DIESEL ENGINE

MOBILE GAS TURBINE HELPS TO SUPPLY POWER TO WAR-TORN UKRAINE

GE Gas Power is helping Ukraine by working with its customers to provide crucial power generation technologies.

A GE TM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine was recently shipped to Ukraine from Arizona on a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane to help support emergency power needs in the country.

The portable turbine was purchased by USAID, the United States government’s humanitarian and foreign aid agency, to help Ukraine restore power where it’s needed most.

“GE is uniquely positioned to be able to support Ukraine in their infrastructure rebuilding efforts, and our mobile aero technology has a proven track record for emergency power response situations due to its mobility, reliability, and flexibility,” says Aman Joshi, the general manager of GE’s aeroderivatives business at GE Gas Power, which is part of GE Vernova.

The arrangement with USAID, he adds, “is really symbolic of the kind of support GE can provide to countries that are in need of urgent power infrastructure.”

In simple terms, the TM2500 is a giant, mobile gas genset - a power plant on wheels, Joshi says. Whereas building a new plant takes one to four years, the approximately 28-megawatt machine, capable of powering the equivalent of more than 100,000 homes in Ukraine.

JLG Industries Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company, is offering Bi-Energy technology as an option on its X770AJ and X1000AJ compact crawler boom lifts.

The system equips the machines with two full-sized, independent power sources – an emissions-free lithium-ion battery pack and a diesel engine – to allow use in both indoor and outdoor applications.

The X770AJ with Bi-Energy technology features a 100 Ah, 76 V lithium-ion battery pack while the X1000AJ has a 150 Ah, 76 V battery pack.

The batteries can be charged from an outlet at any time, including while the machine is in use. Both machines also come with a Kubota D902 diesel engine rated 21.6 hp at 3200 rpm.

The Bi-Energy system maintains the same performance of the lifts while minimizing their carbon footprint and decibel levels, said Angela Patterson, boom lift product management specialist at JLG. The design enables operators to choose the best solution for the application.

The diesel engine can be used to drive the machine to where the overhead work, then the machine can be switched to zero-emission, all-electric battery power to work at height for the remainder of the shift. Once the work is completed, the user can power the engine back up and drive the machine to another location. Users switch between power sources using two new buttons on the console box layout, which is otherwise common to those found on other JLG compact crawler boom lifts.

NEW CEO FOR BALLARD POWER SYSTEMS FOR 2023

Ballard Power Systems, which produces and distributes zeroemission fuel cells, has appointed Mark Biznek, MEng, as its new chief operations officer.

A 30-year veteran with experience in operations, manufacturing, business development and manufacturing engineering, Biznek has spent the past decade at Kohler Power Systems, where he served as the vice president of global operations and supply chain, as well as the vice president of operations and engine development.

“I am excited to join the Ballard team as we work together to help customers achieve their decarbonisation goals,” Biznek said.

“I am looking forward to developing and executing our global operations strategy and manufacturing footprint, with a focus on long-term capacity scaling and product cost reduction.”

Biznek will be responsible for the company’s global operations — including environmental health and safety, quality, manufacturing strategy and engineering, supply chain, procurement, production planning, facilities and operational technology.

ANTARCTIC CHALLENGE UNDERWAY FOR KOHLER GENSETS

Kohler has announced a partnership with Robert Swan, OBE, for the South Pole 2023 expedition which is expected to take him across the Antarctic landmass to the geographic South Pole and beyond relying solely on renewable energy sources. Swan is currently on his journey relying on Kohler energy solutions.

Kohler has equipped Swan with a customised Kohler generator which uses a Kohler diesel engine fuelled by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

Reportedly, the fuel is 90% carbon neutral and sourced entirely from waste products. HVO is a replacement for diesel fuel that is made from waste vegetable oils and other sustainable materials. It allows generator users to adopt low carbon, renewable energy without compromise on performance.

“Increased climate challenges have made critical resiliency solutions more important than ever,” said Swan. “We all have a responsibility for this last great wilderness left on Earth. Antarctica has always been a natural reserve land for science and peace, and it’s the only place like it on the planet.”

The off-grid sustainable system is expected to provide the energy needed to operate Swan’s base camp and provide battery charge to his mobile equipment.

MAJOR ELECTROLYSER ORDER FROM S KOREA FOR A US$43 MILLION HYDROGEN PILOT PROJECT TO BE BASED ON JEJU ISLAND

YEST and its partner Enapter AG have won a contract from South Korea for the delivery of two AEM Multicore electrolysers with a total capacity of 2 MW. Thew plan is to install them in a 12.5 MW hydrogen pilot project on Jeju Island. The demonstration project is supported by the South Korean Ministry of Industry and Trade (Motie) with 62 billion South Korean won [US$43.3 million US].

The project aims to investigate and compare hydrogen production with different electrolysis technologies. Among the five companies selected for the project, Enapter AG is the only technology supplier from Germany or Europe. The systems supplied are expected to produce more than 1000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Installation of the two electrolysers in what is a pioneering project for South Korea will be carried out by YEST, which has been supporting Enapter as an integration partner since 2021

With the AEM Multicore, Enapter has developed what it believes is a cost-efficient alternative to traditional systems. This electrolyser can supply around 450 kg of green hydrogen per day, and by using several units in parallel, production can be expanded on an industrial scale.

IN THE UKRAINE HAVE FOCUSSED ON POWER PLANTS & ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE

In the wake of ongoing strategic attacks by Russian on the Ukrainian power sector, DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko held an online briefing last month to discuss the Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and the critical state it has been placed in - it is currently facing rolling blackouts and halted electricity exports.

The online session was arranged from a bomb shelter due to the air raid alert in Kyiv. The essential points to emerge are as follows: Dozens of missiles have struck energy infrastructure facilities in 11 regions as well as the city of Kyiv. There are problems with water supply in 8 regions. Thermal Power Plants (TPPs) and Combined Heat and Power Plants (CHPPs) have been shelled in central, western, eastern and southern parts of Ukraine.

During October 2022 (4 months ago) about 30% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was hit by Russian missiles.

DTEK TPPs have been attacked as well: Burshtynskaya TPP in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, Ladyzhynska TPP in the Vinnytsia Region, and Prydniprovska TPP in the Dnipropetrovsk Region were damaged.

DTEK is currently assessing the damage and has begun repair work. In general, losses in the company are measured in billions of US dollars, On 14 January, they switched from targeting power plant transformers to targeting the power units. The devastation and destruction means it will be impossible to restore electricity supply with equipment from the Western partners quickly. and it will require greater investment and a longer rebuild.

As a result of the systematic damage to energy facilities, there is now a significant power deficit in the system of approximately 1.5 GW at night and up to 4.5 GW during the day. On average, six million Ukrainians are deprived of daily electricity supply. Chronic fuelk shortages mean DTEK does not now have enough capacity to provide a 24-7 power supply.

ACWA Power has announc ed plans to develop a green hydrogen facility and a green ammonia pilot project in the Republic of Uzbekistan with the country’s Ministry of Energy and Uzkimyosanoat, a state-owned chemical company. These projects are the first of their kind in the country.

The first green hydrogen project will be an integrated facility and is set to be connected to an existing ammonia plant in Chirchiq, 45 km from Tashkent.

The will generate 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year once fully operational. ACWA Power is currently projecting a commissioning date of December 2024.

A second project involves the development of a 500,000 tonne green ammonia feasibility study. Since this project will reduce Uzbekistan’s dependence on natural gas by 600 million cubic metres per year, it is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million tonnes annually. The study will be concluded by the end of 2024.

ROOFTOP SOLAR PROJECT IN ROMANIA WON BY TESLA

Tesla 50Hz, part of Tesla Group, Romania, has signed a co-operation agreement with industrial properties developer Element Industrial, to design and build rooftop solar installations on all ELI buildings across Romania over the next 3-5 years.

The project’s initial stage will cover 250,000 sq m of industrial parks, with a total installation of 40 MW of industrial-scale photovoltaics (PV) using SolarEdge inverter technology (equating to 2-4MW per location).

T50Hz will be responsible for the design and installation process, while also managing the electricity output of each PV power plant. The company has been part of the renewable energy sector in Romania since 2010 and currently has 900 MWp of installations.

GERLOS 1 POWER PLANT IN THE TYROL DEMONSTRATES NEW TECHNOLOGY

The Gerlos 1 power plant is a pumped storage facility in the Ziller Valley in Tyrol. Commissioned in 1949, it has an annual output of 326 GWh, allowing it to supply renewable energy to more than 70,000 four-person households.

Even before a new VOITH unit was commissioned, the spectacular transport operation for the turbine housing was already causing a stir. At the beginning of April 2022, this 54-ton giant left the grounds of the Voith Hydro plant in St. Poelten, Austria.

Apart from its weight, the dimensions of the unit were also impressive: just under nine meters long, more than six metres wide and over four metres high.

The trial operation of the first horizontal, six-nozzle Pelton turbine at the Gerlos 1 power plant has been running successfully for over two months now, and is setting new benchmarks. In the Pelton turbine, which is said to be especially suited to plants with high heads, the water is directed by forming free jets at very high velocity from one or several nozzles to the Pelton runner. Until now, Pelton turbines with more than three nozzles have always been designed with a vertical shaft. The main reason for this was that it allowed higher efficiency than a horizontal arrangement. Voith Hydro has now successfully eliminated this drawback, as demonstrated in the Gerlos 1 power plant, where for the first time, an efficiency level comparable to that of the vertical configuration has been achieved. The plant’s existing four vertical Pelton turbines were replaced by one six-nozzle horizontal Pelton wheel.

BERGEN ENGINES SUPPLIES 13.2 MW CHP PROJECT FOR PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

Bergen Engines has supplied two Bergen Engines’ B36:45L 3.3 MW medium speed (720 rpm) units to power plants belonging to the pharmaceutical industry in Puerto Rico.

A company spokesman commented: “Bergen Engines will supply two medium-speed units for power plants in Puerto Rico. Sampol Group, a multinational applied engineering company, has signed a power purchase agreement for two new efficient energy power plants for the pharmaceutical industry in Puerto Rico.

“Each site will use two Bergen Engines’ B36:45L 3.3 MW medium speed (720 rpm) units. The plants are hybrid-renewable microgrid solutions which will integrate solar photovoltaic technology, batteries, and baseload cogeneration for maximum use of renewable and cleaner energy, the company.”

The B36:45 gas engine is a medium-speed lean-burn unit designed to produce up to 12 MW of mechanical power with optimised combustion technology and excellent load responsiveness. The design has been driven by stringent requirements for lower exhaust emissions, highest possible electrical and heat recovery efficiency, coupled with extreme reliability, reports Bergen.

Based in Madrid, Spain, a new data centre has taken delivery of two 3512 gensets to provide backup power in case of a grid failure.

A spokesman for Finanzauto commented:

“These 3512 gensets (1.625 kVA, 400 V, 50 Hz, STBY Rating) have each been delivered with 40-foot sound attenuated ISO container, a 2.000-litre capacity fuel tank and double exhaust muffler.

“They are now powering a new data centre in Madrid, Spain.”

Producing reliable power from 890 to 1250 ekW at 60 Hz, the 3512 diesel generator sets are made for mission critical, continuous, standby and prime applications. Each meets ISO 8528-5 transient response requirements and will accept 100% rated load in one step. The generator sets come with a low fuel consumption

system. The sets come with an EMCP 4 Control panel offering as user-friendly interface and navigation unit and a scalable system to meet a wide range of installation requirement. There are also expansion modules and site-specific programming for specific customer requirements.

AWARD-WINNING GREEN VILLAGE PRODUCES SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FROM BIOMETHANE

An innovative energy project is currently being rolled out in Alfhausen in Germany’s Osnabrück Land region, reports MWM.

The project demonstrates how it will be possible to implement smart, flexible heat supply in the future. Two containerised cogeneration power plants, each of which is powered by an MWM TCG 3020 V20 gas genset, form the core of the project.

The Alfhausen cogeneration power plant is the first of three biomethane district heat projects to be rolled out in the Osnabrück region. Even before the go-live, the Alfhausen cogeneration power plant won an award as a lighthouse project for outstanding climate protection projects as part of the overall “Green Village” concept. MWM gas gensets now form the core of the Alfhausen District Heat Network.

Since the autumn of 2022 the new Alfhausen cogeneration power plant has been producing heat and power for the local population.

The plant is based in Alfhausen’s new industrial zone “Am Waller Esch” located opposite the local transformer station. The plant makes it possible to feed the power produced by the MWM gas gensets through combined heat and power (CHP) generation directly into the public power grid.

The heat generated by the engines will be transported to the connected homes in Alfhausen through a pipeline network.

The district heat network in Alfhausen was established by Rasche & Weßler GmbH, a local company specialising in energy management and automation technology. The concept is based on the use of biomethane as a regenerative energy source and fuel for the MWM gas gensets.

Biomethane, which is produced by treating biogas, is a renewable energy source which is capable of replacing natural gas, a fossil energy source.

The gas comes from the natural gas network of Westnetz GmbH in Osnabrück. Additionally, biogas from various biogas plants in Germany is fed into the natural gas network at another location.

In this way, the natural gas becomes ‘eco-gas’, which is used as fuel for the gas genset. Apart from the new plant, the industrial zone also hosts a hot water storage tank with a capacity of approximately 2,500 m3.

The water will be heated using the exhaust heat of the two MWM gas gensets and be transported to the individual homes through the district heat network. In the event of a cogeneration power plant outage or unexpected cold spells, the storage facility can be used as an additional buffer in order to continue to supply

Alfhausen with heat for several days.

The 19-km district heat network is being set up by Rasche & Weßler GmbH.

The development started in 2021 and will be ready for operation by the end of 2023.

The two TCG 3020 V20 gas gensets were delivered by Caterpillar Energy Solutions in Mannheim, Germany. Since a TCG 3020 V20 gas genset delivers an electrical output of 2,300 kW, the cogeneration power plant has a total output of 4.6 MW.

Deploying gas engines

“From the outset, we knew that we were going to deploy MWM gas engines”, says Ralf Wessler, Managing Partner at Rasche & Weßler GmbH.

“We are familiar with the technology, and we know that the large engines from Mannheim are very reliable and powerful.

“Another important criterion is the quick and comprehensive service provided by MWM, which guarantees high plant availability.”

From the start, the sustainable, trend-setting supply concept in Alfhausen has been attracting a lot of attention.

In recent months, the demand for district heat network connections underwent a sharp increase.

Up to 1,000 homes can be supplied through the district heat network. Thanks to the co-operation with Glasfaser Nordwest, it was possible to implement the district heat network without redundant construction measures. The result: a climate-friendly infrastructure.

CHP Flagship Project with Pioneer Function

The overall ‘Green Village’ concept with the Alfhausen energy plant, which won an award in the ‘Klima Kommunal 2022’ contest, is the first of three CHP generation projects implemented in the vicinity of Osnabrück.

In Fürstenau, 25 km from Alfhausen, an identical district heat plant is being built and is set to go live in 2023. Another 9-MW biomethane plant is being planned just a few miles from the Alfhausen plant. www.mwm.net

NEW GENSET ENGINES RELEASED - MODELS MEET CHINA‘S STAGE IV EMISSIONS STANDARDS

Cummins Inc has launched a new generation of clean off-road engines for gensets which meet China National Stage IV emissions (CS IV) which came into effect on December 1st, 2022.

The upgraded engines, with displacements from 2.8 to 15-liters, range from 48-674 hp (36-503 kW). Cummins says that they achieve higher power output and torque than their predecessors.

“Cummins provides a broad and diverse product portfolio in off-road market to ensure we are compliant in all applications and geographic markets,” said Jason WANG, Cummins vice president and general manager of Engine Business Unit of China.

“We are uniquely positioned to be the right value partner for OEM customers as they seek a dependable and all-around solution to meet both stringent emissions standards and tough requirements on economy and performance.”

As part of this launch, Cummins has showcased three new CS IV PLUS engines: the M15 Plus, L9 Plus and F4.5 Plus.

The integration of Cummins latest aftertreatment systems, the single module and switchback, with combustion and air handling technology allows the engines to be EGR free, offering benefits of improved NOx conversion efficiency and better fuel economy.

Cummins Inc. says it has now released a full line of China Stage IV (CS IV) engines with the unveiling of the upgraded high performance 8.9-litre L series engine which moves up to 400 hp (298 kW) with a peak torque of 1800 Nm – an 11 percent increase over that of CS III. This offers a class-leading fuel economy and the ability to run at high altitudes while maintaining power capability.

Cummins full line-up of engines meeting CS IV emission standards spans 2.8 to 15 litres displacement with a power capability of 46 hp to 675 hp (34 kW to 503 kW). The proven technology and platforms move easily from CS III by leveraging the US Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V experience as well as on-highway NS VI. The CS IV engines do more with less, offering up to 10 percent increased power density with better transient performance for improved machine productivity.

For CSIV, the 4.5-litre to 6.7-litre B engines are available from 89 hp to 300 hp (66-224 kW). The 8.9-litre L engine is available from 202 hp to 400 hp (151-298 kW). The 12-litre and 15-litre X engines are available from 335 hp to 675 hp (250-503 kW).

With the common technology with Cummins EU Stage V, it makes next generation upgrade more flexible and easier, and offers more choices for the customers with full line of Cummins EU Stage V engines that will be dual certified to CS IV.

Cummins Emission Solutions brings aftertreatment technology expertise to support Chinese customers with optimum choices including Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction System (SCR).

“Over the past ten years Cummins has supplied SCR and DPF units to over 2 million vehicles and non-road equipment around the world. Over 7 billion hours and 265 billion kilometers of operation have been accumulated while reduced 4.26 million tons of NOx,” added Peng.

The Cummins CS IV solution for 6.7-litre to 15-litre engines use SCR technology and DPF plus DOC to significantly reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions versus CS III. The lower displacement engines adopt Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) combined with DOC and DPF for lower total cost of machine operations.

ENSURING IMPROVED POWER QUALITY FOR TODAY’S RAILWAY PASSENGERS

Elevators are essential for any train station, airport or public transportation facility. If an elevator fails, then people’s journeys can be delayed or even rerouted. That’s why, when Stannah Lift Services flagged issues with three elevators at a Network Rail train station, it approached CP Automation for a solution.

Well-known in the elevator industry, Stannah Lift Services has specialised in the manufacturing, installation and repair of lifts for over 155 years. It specialises in passenger and goods lifts and offers solutions for buildings that range from educational facilities, like schools, to shopping centres and transportation infrastructure.

As a contractor, Stannah Lift Services maintains the lifts at all of Network Rail’s train stations across the UK. Recently, at one station, it experienced several issues with the drive units in three lifts breaking down regularly and for no apparent reason.

Powering vertical motion

Variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) lift drives are used to regulate motor speed and torque throughout a lift’s journey, so it draws far less current during acceleration and deceleration.

Stannah noticed that the VVVF drive units on three lifts were frequently breaking down. This caused the elevator to stop working and made the station inaccessible people with prams or any sort of restricted mobility.

When the drive unit was down, the lift could be non-functioning for one-or-two days depending on the availability and size of the necessary replacement part. This caused inconveniences for passengers, including that some needed to get off at an earlier station or find an alternative route, like taxis, for the remainder of their journey.

“Network Rail would frequently contact us saying that another lift had broken down, and we would go in and repair them,” explained Steve Potts, branch manager at Stannah.

“We didn’t think it was an incoming supply issue and, instead, we believed the problem stemmed from the electrical power coming into the lift. It was at this point that we reached out to CP Automation.”

The root of the problem

Potts initially found CP Automation on LinkedIn and contacted its team for support. At first, Stannah requested monitoring equipment to check the quality of power going into the lifts. Instead, CP Automation responded quickly and diagnosed voltage transients as being the root cause of the drive failures.

Transients are brief but powerful high-voltage and high-current events that can last up to 100 microseconds.

The resulting disruption can produce motor vibrations, noise and excessive heat, which lead to eventual drive failure and increased costs.

To help limit recurrent spikes and surges and the damages these cause, CP Automation supplied Stannah with three CPA240 transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS) devices.

TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor) and SPD (Surge Protective Device), both refer to a device which can protect the lowvoltage electrical system from damages of transients, spikes or surges (indirect lightning strike induced from power lines).

The term TVSS is more popular in UL standard countries like United States, Canada and some countries in Middle and South America or even Philippines.

SineTamer is specifically designed to protect sensitive equipment like alternating current (AC) drives and variable frequency drives (VFDs), making it ideal for the Network Rail station lifts, reports CP Automation.

After the initial discussions, CP Automation’s team supplied the SineTamer devices for the three lifts, which Stannah installed.

With the devices, Stannah could repair the elevators without the risk that transient would cause any more breakdowns.

“We initially recommended a Power Quality Study to record what was happening, however we were already confident the issue related to transients being caused by the rail system power network,” explained John Mitchell, global sales & marketing director at CP Automation.

“Supplying the SineTamer provided immediate protection and, in the months after, Stannah had not seen this problem return.”

“There was no smoke and mirrors working with CP Automation,” continued Potts.

“We explained our situation and John helped straight away, telling me exactly what the issue was. He was very open and honest with all the technical information and guidance, which we really appreciated.”

Since the installation, the SineTamer devices have continued to function as intended for almost a year.

The number of lift breakdowns has also reduced significantly, and transients are no longer causing routine disruptions, greatly benefitting Stannah, Network Rail and its passengers. www.cpaltd.net

THE NFORCER FM 175D ENGINE IS DESIGNED FOR A HOST OF HIGH-SPEED APPLICATIONS

Fairbanks Morse Defense is expanding its naval defense capabilities by offering the nForcer FM 175D engine, the defense contractor’s first engine designed for high-speed applications.

Offering more power density than competing highspeed engines in the marketplace, the nForcer FM 175D has been specially designed to support the substantial power and propulsion needs of the US Navy’s unmanned programs, reports the company.

George Whittier, company CEO for Fairbanks Morse Defense, comments: “The US Navy’s future fleet will be electric, and the power requirements for each vessel to support advanced weapons and detection systems alongside standard operations will be greater than anything else we’ve seen over the past 20-30 years,”

He explains: “Fairbanks Morse Defense has provided the US Navy with some of the most trusted power and propulsion systems on the planet for nearly 100 years, making us uniquely qualified to support the Navy’s future efforts to protect the freedom of the seas with this high-speed engine.”

The nForcer FM 175D engine will be available with 12, 16, or 20-cylinders and includes a 175 mm bore for mechanical or electric propulsion for onboard power generation.

It operates at 1800 to 2000 RPMs and has a power output rating of 1740 – 4400 kW, making it one of the most power-dense high-speed engines available for maritime use, reports the company.

Current projections have the nForcer FM 175D engine ready to integrate with US naval fleets by 2025-26.

Fairbanks Morse Defense said the nForcer FM 175D engine has emerged from the company’s Technology Center of Excellence, which has consolidated FMD’s emerging technologies into one platform.

This platform includes Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Defenses, SMART Engineering Solutions, Uncrewed Mission Management and FM OnBoard.

With a Power Range of 1,740 - 4,440 kWb, the new FM 175 D+ engine boasts a clear and compact design intended to deliver continuous, reliable performance. Maximum power output at lowest weight makes the FM 175 D+ the superior choice, says the manufacturer. A company spokesman said: “Whether you’re patrolling in low-load mode or cruising at full power, the easy handling and high availability of the 175 D+ allows you to focus entirely on your mission.”

Greater emphasis on the ‘electric ship’ in the US Navy

The US Navy has put a substantial amount into the development of electrical power systems in its fleet: the US$7.5 billion Zumwalt-class destroyer, for example, is described as an “electric ship”.

Zumwalt is the first US Naval surface combatant to feature all-electric propulsion. The DDG 1000 integrates an all-electric drive with an integrated power system (IPS) consisting of two main turbine generators (MTG), two auxiliary turbine generators (ATG) and two 34.6MW advanced induction motors (AIM).

The Zumwalt-class class has an integrated electric propulsion (IEP) system which can send electricity from its turbo-generators to the electric drive motors or weapons and the Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure (TSCEI).

As of 2023 the U.S. Navy has officially begun the development of a new guided missile destroyer class. The tentatively-titled DDG (X) will replace the older Ticonderoga -class guided missile cruisers and early Arleigh Burke -class guided missile destroyers [below].

Just as the next-generation carrier will be more “electric” by far than any predecessor, probably the same will be true of the cruiser.

Key technological considerations have included the advent of new lighter-weight motors and generators, but it is also the case that ships are now so large that a bit of extra weight is of limited consequence.

The ship’s prime mover drives a generator rather than a propeller shaft.

The propeller (or propulsor) is driven by a motor wired to the generator. In modern cruise ships, this kind of arrangement makes it possible to place the propellers in pods, which can rotate to turn the ship – to give it unusual maneuverability for its size. In a warship, electric power in itself might have several consequences.

One would be that the ship would not have to run all of her engines all the time, because electric power from any of them could drive all of her propellers. At the very least, that would make for much better efficiency and longer range at a given speed. The ships will be the backbone of the Navy’s fleet into the mid-21st century, protecting carriers and high-end ships and providing offensive firepower of their own.

ENERGY STORAGE SUPPORTS NEW ZEALAND’S TRANSITION TO CARBON-FREE ELECTRICITY

Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has been awarded a major contract by Meridian Energy to construct New Zealand’s first large-scale grid-connected BESS.

Located at Ruakākā in the country’s North Island, the 100-megawatt (MW) BESS will improve the stability of the national grid, as intermittent renewable power generation increases in New Zealand.

The BESS is the first stage of a project that will include the construction of a co-located 130 MW solar farm by Meridian Energy.

Saft is providing a fully integrated solution for the Ruakākā BESS, including supply of battery and power conversion equipment, installation, commissioning and 20 years operational services.

Scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2024, the BESS will have storage capacity of 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) to support the local grid demand for around two hours.

This versatile North Island asset will open multiple new revenue streams for Meridian, with the ability to load shift between price periods and participate in the North Island reserve electricity market. Meridian anticipates that the BESS will deliver annual revenues of up to $35 million (USD).

Meridian Energy Chief Executive Neal Barclay said:“As intermittent renewable generation increases in New Zealand, this BESS will help manage supply fluctuations and reduce this country’s reliance on fossil fuels.

“We have a bold vision for Ruakākā, with a grid-scale solar farm planned to further speed up our transition to a low carbon economy The shared infrastructure provided by the BESS will significantly improve the economics of the future solar farm.”

The complete BESS solution supplied by Saft will include 80 Intensium ® Shift battery containers, based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology with 40 inverters Freemaq PCSK GEN3, 20 Medium-Voltage Power Stations and a Power Management System provided by third-party suppliers.

Saft will integrate this equipment with Meridian and Transpower 33kV switchgears, SCADA and power stations.

Suited to energy time-shifting, peaking and capacity support applications, Intensium-Shift 3 MWh containers are scalable building blocks. hey can be installed in line-ups with power conversion equipment with a 50% smaller system footprint, while reducing 50% of site-related activities, allowing a faster deployment of utility-scale storage plants.

Intensium-Shift containers benefit from Saft’s safety concept with a unique combination of proven and

tested safety devices, such as fire suppression systems and blast panels.

Containers are built in Saft’s factories and adopt a modular approach, embedding batteries, thermal systems and digital control interfaces connecting to Saft’s cloud-based data platform I-Sight.

This end-to-end data management solution ensures real-time remote monitoring of system KPI’s and enables optimised asset utilisation with minimum OPEX and downtime.

Recent contracts

Saft specialises in advanced technology battery solutions for industry, from the design and development to the production, customisation and service provision.

In 2022 Saft won a turnkey contract for a 7MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic.

Saft delivered the 6MW/7MWh system to the Longyearbyen community on the island of Svalbard for completion in late 2022. The bulk of Svalbard’s population of

slightly under 3,000 people live there.

The lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) BESS was housed in six containers based on Saft’s Intensium Max High Energy technology and will feature a fully integrated solution including power conversion and control systems.

The BESS allows Longyearbyen to cut its emissions by 100% over time.

The BESS is located next to a coal-fired power station to provide reserve capacity and overcome fluctuations, as well as backup power. The coal station will close in 2023, after which the BESS will provide voltage and frequency control to integrate diesel generators and growing amounts of renewable energy.

NEW SMART HYBRID SYSTEM IS FULLY ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY

The Smart Hybrid Hub powered by FPT Industrial is a completely new project for environmentally-friendly power generation, says the company.

The unit is composed of FPT’s F28 gas engine and a 37-kWh battery pack. FPT Industrial took charge of overall development of the Smart Hybrid Hub and the project was led by the Innovation Team located in the company’s R&D center in Arbon, Switzerland.

Andrea Ercolino, head of Power Generation Product Marketing at FPT Industrial,comments: “The FPT genset features the new FPT F28 variable-speed gas engine. This variable-speed engine allows us to calibrate the engine according to the actual load and have it operate within its best efficiency point.

“Furthermore, the load profile in power generation is never flat. Instead of over-dimensioning the internal combustion engine to cover peak loads and have it run at very low efficiency with low loads, we can increase the engine speed and add the batteries to help cover these peaks, or use the batteries with no engine running when loads are really low.”

She explains: “The unit is powered by the F28 engine in its gas-fuelled version utilizing biomethane that can be produced from the anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste and cattle slurry or from capturing its fugitive methane. So, the net CO2 emissions balance is zero.”

Ercolino reports that the 37-kWh battery pack is a high-voltage system (capable of working from 350 V to 700 V) produced in collaboration with Potenza and Microvast. “This is the same battery pack that will be integrated in the new e-Daily van by Iveco. The batteries are produced in the new battery plant in Turin, Italy, officially inaugurated mid-October 2022.

“The use of a high-voltage battery pack derived from on-road applications has the advantage of reducing currents inside the system and allowing for an easier integration in a power generation unit that has to be housed under a canopy or within a container,” said Ercolino. He adds that FPT Industrial’s roadmap on batteries “involves the development of other battery pack sizes in the future”.

As for the system control unit, the hardware is supplied by Woodward, including the gas engine control unit. However, the algorithm that is the basis of the Hybrid Control Management system was developed by FPT Industrial’s Innovation Team and is based on an

innovative study of the engine’s load curves for the best integration with the energy storage system, especially in terms of charge and discharge cycle strategy.

The power output of the hybrid unit is up to 55 kWe, obtained by the combination of variable-speed engine and battery pack.

The unit offers three main operating modes:

-touring mode, where engine and battery pack alternate operation to optimize efficiency and extend the lifespan of the system;

-full electric mode, where the batteries supply energy for low-load operation;

-and boosting mode for peak shaving, where the engine works at full load and batteries can kick in for the extra power needed.

Although the modes are selected automatically for the best efficiency, the operator can also force them – for example, by switching to full electric when a zero-emissions requirement arises.

According to evaluations by FPT Industrial, the generator has improved fuel efficiency up to 20% and offers 2.5 times longer oil change intervals compared to a constant-speed diesel generator.

The Smart Hybrid Hub was developed in partnership with UK-based startup Bennamann, in which FPT Industrial holds a minority interest.

Bennamann is a specialist in fugitive methane capture and is developing a zero net carbon system for energy independent farms that includes fugitive methane capture process, storage and distribution.

In this system, the hybrid genset unit is the last link in the chain of

biomethane production on farms using the fuel being obtained from Bennamann’s system.

The biomethane being produced by the system can be used to power a genset like the Smart Hybrid Hub and guarantee the farm’s independence from the grid.

The Smart Hybrid Hub genset is currently under test in the Chynoweth Farm in Cornwall, UK, Bennamann’s hub for R&D and testing.

“The genset is undergoing an initial commissioning and test phase,” said Ercolino. “Tests will focus on efficiency and fuel consumption as well as on functionality of the different operating modes.

“This phase will also be used by Bennamann’s technicians to familiarise with the system and to understand the best solutions for fuel supply.”

He explains: ”The fuel can be supplied either locally, in the case of a farm producing its own biomethane, or by using gas container racks. The fuel delivery is different from that for vehicle use and meets the needs of industrial generators, which work with lower pressures (around 0.5 bar/7.3 psi) for safety reasons.”

The Smart Hybrid Hub will remain in Chynoweth, UK, for a few weeks, but the ultimate goal is for these gensets to operate in other independent farms using Bennamann’s technology to produce their own biomethane.”

The first such locations will be in Trenance, Cornwall, but others have been lined up already. The scope is to test the genset in different load profiles and running modes. www.fptindustrial.com/it

NETWORK ZONES

A general lack of understanding and exposure to heat networks, particularly outside of public sector professionals who work in the sector, is the biggest barrier to the establishment of heat network zones.

That is just one of the findings outlined in a new report produced by ACE Research, working with the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) and SE2, on behalf of BEIS, which explores how heat network zoning policy could best be developed and implemented.

It includes views from groups including local authorities, building owners and residents across Bristol, Birmingham, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Nottingham.

A heat network is a system of insulated water pipes that takes heat (and sometimes cooling) from a central source and delivers it efficiently to nearby buildings to provide temperature control and warmth.

Heat network zoning is a policy developed by the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) which will be implemented by the Government in the near future. It involves assessing the combined heating and cooling needs of an area, as well as identifying what sources of heat generation are available. Certain suitable areas are then designated as ‘heat network zones’. Buildings within these zones would be required to connect to the network where it is the most efficient heating solution available.

This research highlights the fact that stakeholders across a range of sectors are willing to consider connection to heat networks as a method of decarbonisation, once they understand what heat networks are and how they can help them modernise their energy systems.

ACE RESPONDS TO PAC REPORT ON THE UK

INFRASTRUCTURE BANK

Commenting on the Committee of Public Accounts inquiry report on the creation of the UK Infrastructure Bank, Guto Davies, head of policy at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) said:

“We welcome the recommendations made by the Committee into the establishment of the UK Infrastructure Bank, notably on sharing of performance metrics, encouraging a collaborative cross-departmental approach and more detail on how its advisory function will work in practice.

The establishment of the Bank is a great opportunity for communities across the UK, and we need to ensure that it is set up to be as impactful as possible as quickly as possible.

“The Committee recommends that a full-suite of performance metrics are developed covering productivity and performance.

“We believe that there is an opportunity here to also include metrics around regional skills development and social value which will create a broader base on which to measure impact.

“Furthermore, the moves to encourage cross-departmental engagement are welcome, and could help the establishment of more co-ordinated placemaking approach throughout the UK.”

Guto Davies concludes: “The Bank’s advisory function also has a role to play here, and we need to ensure that this approach is mirrored in its engagement with local authorities of all sizes, reducing the need for competition, tendering and ring-fencing when allocating investment to projects across the country.”

ABB LAUNCHES THE WORLD’S FIRST VIRTUALIZED PROTECTION AND CONTROL SOLUTION

ABB has introduced its new SSC600 SW - according to the company the product means that customers are no longer tied to specific hardware allowing them to optimize their IT infrastructure.

With many systems accommodated on one platform, they can reduce the number and type of devices and hardware in substations.

This greatly simplifies performing maintenance activities. The inherent separation of functionality from hardware (virtualization) allows integrated, system-wide upgrades and additional functionality, without introducing the need for new hardware.

As an example: an SSC600 device can protect 30 bays, whereas with a virtualized approach, customers can install multiple SSC600 SW instances on a single computer for even bigger systems.

Further, with virtualized functionality, a substation owner can replace different kinds of old equipment with the same type of new equipment. This substantially reduces the amount of knowledge required to maintain the substation because of the smaller amount of hardware variants.

HYFLEXPOWER DEMONSTRATOR SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

ENGIE Solutions, Siemens Energy, Centrax, Arttic, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and four European universities, together forming the Hyflexpower consortium, have announced the successful completion of the first stage of an innovative research project on renewable energy.

Located at the Smurfit Kappa Saillat Paper Mill in Saillat-sur-Vienne (France), this program becomes the first industrial facility in the world to introduce an integrated hydrogen demonstrator.

The aim of the HYFLEXPOWER project is to demonstrate that green hydrogen can serve as a flexible means of storing energy which can then be used to power an industrial turbine. The hydrogen is produced on site with an electrolyzer and used in a gas turbine with a mix of 30-vol. % hydrogen and 70 vol.-% natural gas for power generation.

The project marks the implementation of the world’s first industrial-scale power-to-X-to-power demonstration with an advanced turbine with high hydrogen content fuel. In 2023, trials will continue to increase the hydrogen ratio up to 100%. While the large-scale availability of green hydrogen is still some way off, the members of the consortium are focused on looking beyond 2030 and trialling new technology, such as hydrogen, today. This project will allow the partners to understand the technical feasibility of using hydrogen while retaining much of the existing energy infrastructure. EODev says it has sold close to 100 power generators globally, including the 110 kVA GEH2 and the 70 kW REXH2 onboard model, both of which are equipped with a Toyota fuel cell and a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery.

With a footprint of less than four square meters and an optimised mass, the GEH2 is equipped with the latest generation of fuel cells from its partner Toyota, giving it exceptional durability and reliability. The company calls it ‘the most compact and efficient electrohydrogen generator on the market’.
