Bath Rugby has announced the formation of Bath Rugby Women’s Sevens - a new elite team set to compete at top-flight Sevens tournaments this summer.

The club recently pledged its commitment to the female game alongside setting out a strategic roadmap that culminates in an application to compete in the Allianz Premier 15s from 2023-24.

The news represents a significant milestone in the club’s history and marks another step forward in its journey to developing a professional women’s team.

The club is seeking to identify and develop talented athletes in the region to join its Women’s Sevens squad. Players can register their interest until 11 March 2022, with team trials scheduled on Saturday, 2 April 2022, at Farleigh House.

Bath Rugby Women’s Sevens offers elite-level playing opportunities for all aspiring elite athletes. The side also provides a clear pathway to joining Bath Rugby Women’s professional playing squad as it evolves over the next 18-months.

Bath Rugby Women’s Sevens, combined with the University of Bath Women’s Team and Championship South 1 side, Bath Rugby Ladies, sees an elite playing pathway starting to form. A newly launched Women’s Elite Rugby Academy in partnership with Bath College adds further strength offering 16–19-year-old female players an opportunity to unlock their full potential on the pitch without needing to compromise on their education. commented: “It’s a privilege to form a women’s sevens team. While continued investment in the community game, working with grassroots clubs and schools remains paramount, offering elite playing opportunities to talented female players in our region is the first step towards building our professional squad.

“It’s a proud moment for our club, forms a significant part of our pathway and creates female role models who can inspire young girls in our region to play our sport.”

The team will compete in the Super 7s series and the Bournemouth 7s Ladies Elite Cup. Training takes place at Bath RFC’s Training Ground in Lambridge from April to June under the watchful eye of Head Coach Crowfoot.
