INTERWIRE 2025: show update
Interwire: exhibits are set, speaker value has skyrocketed
The show floor (sold out!) and schedule of events for Interwire are largely firmed up, but the global market gyrations that are part of the backdrop to the Atlanta event has led to uncertainty—in the U.S. and many other countries—that makes the perspectives of industry leaders speaking there more important than ever. For the latest details, go to www.interwire25.com.
The importance of the trade show floor
Row after row of the Interwire show floor will be packed with the latest technology from more than 350 exhibitors— from well-known industry suppliers to dozens of 1st time exhibitors—that collectively will be ready to discuss how they can help manufacturers improve their operations in all the different stages. They are there to offer better ways to make a difference, provide more efficiency, increase production, improve quality, reduce costs and maximize profits.
Searching out advantages is time well spent, and that’s why the Interwire trade show, the largest such event in the Americas, continues to be relevant. It was designed by the industry for the industry, and now is a good time for attendees to start planning which exhibitors they should visit. There will be a lot to see and much worth hearing.
The March 2025 preshow issue covered a lot of what will be there. At 200 pages plus covers, it was the largest Interwire preshow issue since 2011. The listings included 350-plus exhibitors— of which more than 40 were 1st-time exhibitors, both suppliers and manufacturers—hailing from 17 countries.
The exhibitors are also active in terms of presentations, which leads to another attraction: the WAI Theater, which is conveniently located on the show floor. This year, it will host six presentations on Tuesday; 10 on Wednesday, which includes Production Solutions, the Mordica Lecture and a presentation by Keynote Speaker Chris Tuff; and four more on Thursday, the last day, including one by WAI Manager of Education John Markowski.
The importance of conference elements
Steel industry veterans Jim York, Insteel Industries, Bryan Sullivan, Bekaert’s Steel Wire Solutions, and Andy Talbot, Mid-South Wire, will tackle vexing industry challenges at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 13, as part of the executive panel on steel market & tariffs. Topics include steel pricing, supply and demand and the short and long-term dynamics of the industry.
The importance of industry speakers
Market drivers have long inspired and tested the wire and cable industry, making it crucial to be able to focus on what one can control. The Interwire roster of speakers, leaders in their field, will present their perspectives on matters, some long part of the industry fabric as well as some that continue to evolve. Below are featured speakers for Tuesday/Wednesday.
Keynote Speaker Andrea Pirondini, CEO of Prysmian North America. Pirondini, who became the CEO of Prysmian North America in 2021 after serving as COO of Prysmian from 2014-2021, will present his Tuesday talk, Linking the Future: Driving Tomorrow’s Wire Solutions. It will explore the transformative changes shaping the wire and cable industry in the face of evolving demand. Through innovation and embracing change, the industry can unlock new opportunities and build resilient solutions for a smarter, greener future.
Willem Sundblad, CEO & co-founder, Oden Technologies. A leader in Industrial IoT and pioneer of realtime and predictive analytic tools, his Tuesday presentation, the Future of Manufacturing, will show how manufacturers can make more, waste less and innovate faster with machine learning and applied analytics; and later, How AI Unlocked Productivity and Helped Increase Line Speed by Over 20% in 3 Months. Note, on Wednesday, Lake Cable will discuss its work with Oden.
Sundblad
Pirondini
Andrés Cartagena Ruiz, head of MFL X, MFL X, MFL. Ruiz, who oversees customer care for Italy’s MFL Group, will present, “Case Study: Solving problems faster with the help of the MFL X Ecosystem.” His Tuesday talk will be focused on digital projects that leverage exponential technologies to facilitate data-driven after-sales support and product development. He is also a board member of 40Factory, a high-tech scale-up that operates in the fields of Industrial IoT and AI.
Business? For sure, but Interwire has more
During Interwire, most of the focus will be on the conference sessions and exploring the show floor, but there is a lot more for attendees to do. Your Interwire experience can be more complete, and if you’re lucky, why, it could literally be financially rewarding.
Donald R. Leavens, Ph.D, senior vice president and chief economist for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. NEMA’s some 350 members make products used in the generation, transmission, distribution, control and end use of electricity. His Wednesday presentation, “America’s Future Grid: Challenges and Solutions from the Electrical Manufacturers’ Perspective,” will focus on the nation’s aging grid and its ability to serve the 50%+ electricity demand growth expected between 2025 and 2050.
Carolyn Lee, president and executive director of the Manufacturing Institute (MI). Lee will speak Wednesday about the need for employer-led workforce solutions in today’s labor market. Her presentation, “Solving the Skills Equation,” will explain how MI—a workforce development and education nonprofit affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers— provides a range of innovative programs that respond to critical workforce challenges, empowering individuals and strengthening communities.
... and an outside generational perspective
Keynote Speaker Chris Tuff. The bestselling author of The Millennial Whisperer, will speak Wednesday on how, in the wake of The Great Resignation, many companies scramble to find ways to attract and retain top talent and improve their topline ROI. His talk will explain how the power of genuine connection—inside and outside the organization—can accomplish both. His ability to make sense of what has confounded many companies has led him to speak for businesses that range from Nike and Amazon to Delta and Harvard. He will also speak later at the WAI Theater.
• The Welcome Reception. WAI returns to the MercedesBenz Stadium (MBS) for its Welcome Reception. If you were at Interwire 2023, but missed the reception, don’t miss out again when it is held Tuesday, May 13, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Also, you’ll have company, as attendees of the Global Continuous Casting Forum are invited. It offers an ideal setting for socializing at a level that Interwire attendees at past receptions are used to.
• It’s time to relax!
Attendees may have many booths to visit at Interwire, and one that you might especially enjoy is Booth 2100: the WAI Relaxation Lounge, where one can be pampered. Then, duly recharged, it’s back to the floor. Make sure to visit the WAI Resource Center (Booth 1400) because we’ve got some new products you might want to see. You’ll also be next to the WAI Lounge, which offers members comfy chairs and refreshments.
• There’s more to life than pickleball? Indeed, there is: it’s cornhole toss time at the Food Court! James Monroe Wire & Cable once again is sponsoring the cornhole toss set-up on the show floor. There’s no formal competition, but there can be lots of impromptu matches and the only injuries that could be inflicted are to a person’s ego. It will be active both days. In the meantime, you might want to start practicing your pitch technique. If ever there was a time and place to be flippant, you’ll find it at Booth 200.
• 4 shots at winning $2,500!
WAI is hosting four giveaways on the show floor totaling $10,000. The first drawing will be Wednesday at 4 pm and the second one on Thursday at noon. This raffle is open only to wire and cable manufacturers who turn in the ticket from their registration packet at the WAI Resource Center. Those eligible will have a ticket for each day. You must be present to win ... but why wouldn’t you want to be there? It could be your lucky day!

The Best of ... Koner/TKT Group
Comparison of microstructure of new powder grade for HC steel (hardness 90.5 HRA), l, and for LC production (hardness 94.2 HRA).
In recent years Koner has studied and researched new formulations of TC powders containing special additives for the production of drawing dies to increase wear resistance and the work-life of the dies. They increased the hardness of the dies without affecting their toughness.
The studies led to the production of a new powder suitable for drawing high carbon wire, with a hardness of 90.5 HRA. The new TC powders have provided excellent results in the production of PC wire/ PC strand / ropes, increasing the work-life of the dies by 20% on average.
Koner has also developed a new powder for drawing low carbon wire, with a hardness of 94.2 HRA. It showed excellent results for producing welding wire, increasing die life by 30%.
As can be seen from the photos in the box, the micro-structure shows a homogeneous distribution of the tungsten carbide grades within the cobalt matrix. This makes it possible, together with the additives included in the formulation, to significantly increase the wear resistance. Furthermore, the increase in the wear resistance of the dies leads to an ecological (as well as economic) benefit, as the same amount of drawn wire requires a lower consumption of mineral resources, with significant benefits for the customer and the environment.
After a long trials stage at some international customers of the TKT Group, the products have been approved with great customer satisfaction. They are now part of the standard Koner production lines. The company intends to continue its R&D path for these innovative TC powders to align its offer with the increasingly high-quality expectations of the market. To learn more, visit Booth 1611 at Interwire. We can answer your questions about these and other Koner products.

At Nano Die, we continually push the boundaries of die technology to deliver high-performance specialty Nano-Dies® for shaped die strings and other applications. Our innovative nano-engineered dies provide exceptional tolerance control, extended durability, and enhanced efficiency, making them the ideal solution for demanding industrial applications. Our new split dies and advanced calibration dies offer unmatched precision and longevity, ensuring superior output quality and reduced production costs.
Through advanced computer modelling, we develop continuous die strings that gradually alter shape throughout the drawing process. This approach ensures optimal material flow, increased accuracy, and production speeds of up to 15 m/s. Available models include trapezoid, “S” shape, and “Z” shape profiles, with custom designs available for specialized requirements.
Why Nano-Dies? They are as smooth as they are hard, and they have lower surface friction than PCD or TC dies. They do less damage to the micro-structure of an individual conductor. For wire drawing, they provide low cost, low friction and long life that result in significant price and performance improvements over PCD and tungsten-carbide dies. There also are notable advantages of Nano-Dies for cable compacting and stranding, where manufacturers can reduce raw material losses and increase profitability for energy cable manufacture. Also, the cost of a Nano-Die is about the same as the cost for a 2 mm PCD die. Once production involves sizes 3 mm or larger, the price difference increases by an order of magnitude.
To learn more about the shop-floor advantages on Nano-Dies, stop by Booth 613 at Interwire. We’ll be glad to explain them to you.

Tradition plays a strong role in wire manufacturing, but is it always the best path forward? Many processes continue simply because “that’s how it’s always been done,” even when better solutions exist. At Precision Die Technologies (PDT), we challenge this mindset. With 33 years of expertise, we take a fresh, analytical approach to your wire drawing operations, identifying improvements that enhance efficiency, extend die life and optimize performance.
At PDT, we don’t just supply tooling: we become a strategic partner. Our mission is to help customers maximize die life, increase output, reduce scrap and improve their bottom line. ISO 9001-certified for over 20 years, we take quality seriously while delivering customized solutions to enhance production. Managing die inventory can be challenging, but PDT makes it seamless. Our proprietary inventory software predicts demand and ensures the sizes you need are ready, cutting lead times from weeks to days. Our ABC Program helps reduce wire scrap to less than 1% by optimizing pull points, reducing tooling wear and stabilizing costs.
Knowledge transfer is critical. If a key employee leaves, will the next person know how to manage tooling? With PDT’s support, they will. We establish clear internal processes so anyone can succeed with minimal training.
In a competitive market, quality, price and service are expected. What sets PDT apart is our commitment to becoming an extension of your business. We don’t do things a certain way just because “that’s how it’s always been done.” We do them better. Let’s optimize your wire drawing operations together. Are you ready to see what you’re missing? This section asks industry suppliers to explain why what they have to offer for customers is “The best of.” That claim could be for a product that represents the best price or the best quality, but part of the equation is what else a company has to offer customers. What makes them a good potential partner. Here, suppliers of reels/spools discuss why their products are an ideal choice for customers. All will be exhibiting at Interwire 2025, so it would be a great time to discuss possibilities. could company suppliers great
In 2025, American Wire Works (AWW) acquired Ace Metal Inc., renaming it Ace Metal Works and reinforcing its commitment to U.S.based manufacturing. Ace Metal Works has decades of spool and carrier expertise and AWW President/Owner Phil Fusacchia is merging that base with his own expertise to deliver expanded offerings, innovative designs and custom solutions for the transportation, aerospace and defense sectors, as well as a broad range of industrial customers.
One priority will be broadening Ace Metal Works’s spooling capabilities, building on its trusted line of 6-in. to 14-in. flange-diameter spools. These are formed from prime cold-rolled steel, then stamped, welded and rigorously tested to handle batch annealing and multiple reuse cycles. They outlast alternatives like Masonite, tin plate and many plastics. Ace Metal Works will offer enhanced carrier designs—from square-base and star-base to clover-leaf and circular-base styles—optimizing them for large-diameter wire, rod and other heavy products.
Under its new name, Ace Metal Works will continue to support the full wire industry with fabricated solutions that improve efficiency and reduce downtime. That will be accomplished by modernizing manufacturing processes, leveraging new materials, and refining product performance to attain a higher standard for reliability and longevity across every produced spool and carrier. American-made craftsmanship and customer-focused service will be the cornerstones of this new chapter.
If you’re searching for wire packaging solutions that stand up to demanding environments, Ace Metal Works is ready to help you power forward. Also, Interwire 2025 attendees are most welcome to stop by Booth 253 to find out more about what we can do.
Anderson Forest Products began in 1967 in South Central, Kentucky, as a small sawmill with only 15 employees. Today, AFP is an international corporation with over 200 employees and with locations in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, and Nogales in Sonora, Mexico. With our now more than 50 years of experience in the reel and spool industry, AFP’s state-of-the-art production process enables us to provide quality custom reels in a timely and cost-effective manner.
AFP sets itself apart from the competition with our ability to custom create any size and type of reel that our customers may require. We can provide wooden flange diameters from 20 in. to 102 in., and thicknesses from 1.5 in. up to 5 in. We also have various barrel types and hub and plate designs for our customers to choose from. With our programming and CNC capabilities, there is no limit to the designs that we can create for your reel needs.
AFP also provides value-added solutions, such as our reel recycle and reuse program. Our customers typically have several used reels on hand that they would like to dispose of in a cost-efficient and environmentally responsible manner. AFP provides that solution by taking these reels back from our customers and reworking them for reuse. Any items that we cannot reuse, we dispose of responsibly. Any metal, plastic or cardboard items are sent to local recyclers, while discarded or broken wood products are processed through our rotochopper and turned into sawdust shavings. These shavings are then used by members of our local agricultural community. AFP prides itself on being a zero waste-to-landfill manufacturer. If that sounds like a good partner, visit us at Booth 550 at Interwire. We’d love to tell you more.

Italy’s Boxy SpA, represented in North America by Howar Equipment Inc., has continued to focus on new and special configuration steel reels to highest quality and standards.
The SSM-1250 reel is a reel made for a wire drawing machinery manufacturer who insisted on the best performance for their PC strand line. The 1250 mm (50 in.) diameter reels are used on wire drawing equipment and on a strander in subsequent operation. The 25 m/sec (4900 ft/min) high-speed wire drawing reel is completely machined for high concentricity requirements, and then dynamically balanced so the reel will rotate uniformly and smoothly as it fills with wire. Special bolt-on replaceable arbor bushings are incorporated into the reel’s arbors so that when wear is detected at the arbor (pintle mating surface) the arbor bushings can be quickly changed without needing to send the reels to an outside machine shop.
The finishing of the reel is achieved through careful CNC machining equipment, along with further polishing/grinding machinery that ensure the smoothest surface along the wire winding surfaces. Additionally, to add a touch of customization, the flanges are painted to many different colors, and in this case a stand-out yellow was chosen to add personality and customer branding.
Boxy can manufacture the widest assortment of steel reels through their multiple in-house presses, laser cutting tables, machining centers which all focus on specific processes and requirements. Boxy covers every type of steel reel, reel handling equipment as well as wire baskets to assist wire and cable manufacturers on all production processes.

The manufacturing operations use 50 injection moulding machines in a three-shift system. Production and development are certified in accordance with ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 50001 (energy management). Our use of Statistical Process Control allows us to guarantee the quality you require at a reasonable price.
We’ll be at Booth 2231 at Interwire if you’d like to talk about spools.
Aside from our product lines, the “best of” for Howar Equipment, Inc., is our ability to handle the toughest projects. We were awarded a large reel project requiring reels for HV cable that would then travel by ocean to the final cable installation site.
The SR-4200 reel (165 in. diameter) was designed for a loading capacity of 46 tons for HV cables. The stringent parameters required additional engineering validation to ensure safe ocean-transport passage whereby the reel sits on a specially designed cradle. The reel and cradle would be anchored to the ship through D-rings that hold the cargo in place. Using FEA analysis, third party engineers and on-site load testing, along with years of reel experience, we were able to provide a solution that would meet this project’s specific requirements.
The outside diameter of the flanges was built using a specially designed structure allowing the customer to protect the cable with wood boards or steel sheeting based on their needs. The flange structure is reinforced using special rectangular tubing and roll formed steel. The drum was specially designed with additional supports due to its wide span of 4200 mm (165 in.).
Howar Equipment can supply reels within North America up to 5 m (197 in.) diameters for all cabling, stranding, insulating and shipping applications. We also offer all the accessories and auxiliary equipment needed to manufacture wire and cable. Our philosophy is driven by understanding the entire manufacturing process so we can offer the optimal solutions.

The Best of ... Madem Reels Group
Contact: Leandro Mazzoccato, global sales & marketing director/president, Madem-Moorecraft Reels USA
Brazil’s Madem Reels Group is a leading wooden reels producer that currently supplies more than 200 cable factories in more than 45 countries. Our U.S. business, Madem-Moorecraft, has continued to expand operations with significant increases in production levels in our plants in Denton, Texas, and Tarboro, North Carolina. We have also opened new assembly and distribution warehouses in strategic points in the United States.
We will be launching new products, including plywood reels with T&G drum and MademPly 9/32 in. (7 mm) plywood reels with steel rivets and paper drum. Also, customers will be able to see examples of our state-of-the-art ink jet system for flange painting and graphics.
Madem’s full kit for “do-it-yourself” assembly in the factory has been well received. All components are in the same unit, reducing extra forklift hours, improving inventory control and saving space. It allows wooden reels of 450 mm to 3200 mm diameter to be easily assembled for steel cables, electrical cables, communication cables and conductors. A different type of Madem innovation was the development of a metal bushing with claws. That new idea resulted in considerable cost reduction compared to the traditional use of square bushings with bolts.
Founded in 1949, Madem Reels Group is among the 15 largest forestry groups in Brazil. It has seven production plants in Brazil, Spain, Bahrain, U.S., Mexico and Colombia. Quality and environment are important items in our process. We will be presenting our certified eco-friendly reels (listed by PERF, the world’s largest forest certification system), for our ISO 14000 and ISO 14064-3 CO2 Neutral Reels.
We will be at Booth 405 at Interwire, and there will be plenty of stuff to see and talk about, so please do plan to stop by.
Maschinenfabrik Niehoff, represented in the U.S. by Niehoff Endex North America Inc. (NENA), develops and builds machinery for the manufacture of nonferrous wires and their processing into automotive, power, data and special cables, with the exception of extruders. One example of the production range is the Niehoff Packaging System (NPS) which has been used by cable and wire harness manufacturers for about 30 years. The NPS has had continuous further development and proven to be a highly efficient, safe and economic packaging system for automotive cables as well as bunched wires, strands, conductors and cables. Even signal cables made of copper alloys with a cross-section of 0.13 mm² can be processed without any problems.

The NPS comprises the SV type spoolers and collapsible multiway spools made of ABS or PP plastic. The spoolers are designed to operate in line with extrusion lines and spool the insulated wire coming from there with a particular conical wire laying technology onto the NPS spools. The SV 403 D model (pictured) can work reliably at a maximum production speed of 2400 m/min. The laying pattern ensures a secure, stable and tangle free package on the spools both when full or partially empty, enabling highest cable payoff speeds into downstream processes. Changeover from full to empty spools is carried out automatically at full production speed allowing non-stop operation. When empty, the spools can be fully dismantled and nested into each other. In this way they take up only a third of the space of comparable conventional spools and require much less return shipping space. Upon return to the cable manufacturer, NPS spools can be easily re-assembled, reloaded and re-used for dozens of cycles. We’ll be at Interwire at Booth 839.

Belgium’s Metavan NV, represented in North America by Howar Equipment, is a highly specialized manufacturer of steel reels that solely focuses on pressed steel reels. This allows it to produce at better efficiency/cost, while also reducing lead-times.
Sizes. Metavan makes pressed-steel reels from 400 to 1250 mm (16 in. to 49 in.) with a variety of steel thicknesses from 2 to 6 mm (12 ga to .250 in.). This range enables it to provide shipping reels as well as production reels.
Focus. As it has a smaller, defined product mix, Metavan has a significant competitive advantage through its use of automation, which is a cornerstone of its business model. The entire production process uses robotics, which includes handling and welding as well as final painting through an automated high-capacity powder-coating line.
Customization and finishing. Reels may be looked upon as a commodity at times, but that is not the case. Reels are an extension of the wire or cable wound onto them and represent the manufacturer’s brand. Metavan can assist in customizing the reel to your specification and machinery, along with stenciling needed logos and writing. Finishing of the final reel is done in-house with durable powder-coating to the desired color which is baked on for a high-grade finish.
Green. Metavan believes in having a sustainable approach and consequently the company does not just focus on manufacturing new metal reels, but also recycling and repairing existing reels.
