Vapormatt: wet-blasting machine offers many advantages for wire and cable surface prep

At Interwire, U.K.-based Vapormatt, will showcase its Profelis wet-blasting machine for wire and cable at the stand of Cable Consultants, its U.S. representative.

The Profelis has a unique blast gun manifold that ensures complete 360-degree finishing. Because the system works in-line with existing manufacturing, it’s capable of processing large quantities of wire and cable at speed.

It also features integrated rinsing and drying to ensure throughput is as rapid as possible. For wire products throughput can be significantly increased by Vapormatt’s patented micro gun technology. Multiple strands of wire can be finished at the same time using a common wet blast slurry feed that is not only more productive but uses much less compressed air too.

The model is very effective at thoroughly cleaning finishing: overhead power cable, which is given a non-specular finish for improved current carrying capacity; aluminum and copper feeder wire, with imperfections and oxides completely removed prior to extrusion; steel wire, using graphite, with heat-scale completely removed in preparation for forming, machining and heat treatment; carding wire, removing all heat scale, grease, discoloration and burrs, with carding teeth precisely honed for extra durability; and submarine communication wire, leaving a reactive surface that is perfect for bonding with an outer sheath layer.

For wire extrusion, Vapormatt offers the Cougar + wet blasting machine that is highly configurable for extrusion die cleaning.

BOOTH 350 easy to install, maintain and fully automatic. Die blocks cover a wide range (6 mm to 190 mm). The melting pot range 10, 18, 35 and 60 ton capacities. Additional equipment: the Cable Repair and Recovery System (CRRS) for removal of individual layers, HDPE outer jacket, lead sheath and triple-layer XLPE insulation, without causing damage to subsequent layers below, enabling the cable to be repaired/recovered. Harter’s products lines include supplies steel bow stranders, tubular stranders, single-twist bunchers and SZ stranders. Working with customers, it offers special constructions for wire and cable production.
