n the fall of 2015, a young gay man performed in front of thousands of strangers on a little show called Britain's Got Talent – terrified and shaking like a leaf. His haunting acoustic rendition of Robyn's 2010 hit "Dancing On My Own" brought the house down and earned him the golden buzzer from Simon Cowell himself. For us Yanks that means a nonstop ticket straight to the finals! But the real journey for Calum Scott started when his audition went viral. 550 million views later, Calum released his version of that iconic track as his first single, toured throughout many parts of the world (including this side of the pond) and is about to drop his debut album, Only Human. With his career about to hit an all-time high, the 29-year-old singer still managed to squeeze in a few minutes between flights to talk about his new album, singing with Leona Lewis and what

it's like to be a gay icon.

DJ FR8-O: What inspired you to choose "Dancing on My Own" as your audition piece, and more importantly to do it as a ballad? Calum Scott: I'm sure you've heard the story of how my sister found my voice and believed in me, and she's the reason why I do what I do, but there was a time when I wanted to find my original voice. I searched around online and it wasn't long before I found this beautiful piano rendition of "Dancing on My Own," so I sang the lyrics as I remembered them and poured all my emotions into it. As a gay man, I've repeatedly been in the situation where you fall in love with a straight guy, so I very much related to the lyrics. But the beauty of it is that Robyn is an incredible songwriter, and when you slow down the lyrics you really realize how heartbreaking the song truly is. As soon as I knew how it resonated with people, I knew it was a song that I had to sing to as many people as possible, and to keep it in the perspective of a gay man. It was very different than what was happening in the industry at that time. In the end, I did something that was discreet to the heterosexual audience, but quite loud for the LGBTQ community. DF: Has Robyn said anything about your version of the song? CS: I've never spoken to her directly, but I met with Patrik Berger who is the songwriter on the record, and he said that he spoke with her and she'd given him the thumbs up. DF: Your new single "You Are the Reason" is yet another beautiful ballad. Does this mean you're going to be the new king of ballads, or will we also be hearing a more upbeat side of Calum as well? CS: Of course! Since this is my first album, I wanted to make sure â&#x20AC;&#x201C; as I do at my live shows â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that I take people on a journey. I wanted to make sure that people knew that they were getting all sides of me. I'm not one of those guys who are constantly down. I'm a happy guy as well, especially now. I feel very confident and Photo by Frank Borin fulfilled in my life. So there are songs like that on the album as well. Ultimately, I wanted to create an album that people can relate to. DF: What was it like having Leona Lewis sing that song with you? CS: It was the craziest thing! So weird! I've watched Leona do X Factor (UK) and have been a huge fan of her work. So one day we got introduced to each other by Diane Warren, and ever since then we've just had the best time. We email, we text, and I almost feel like we were separated at birth! So there we are on BBC One performing live outside, surrounded by twinkling lights, a 12-piece choir and string orchestra playing, and I look over at Leona singing a song that I wrote myself and I was just in awe. It was a very emotional night. DF: Are there any songs on Only Human that are extra special to you? CS: All of them are special. They are my little babies, which made delivering the album so hard! I think "You Are The Reason" has always been a personal favorite even way before we considered it my second single, it just feels so relatable and has always had such amazing reactions when I've performed it live. "Won't Let You Down" is a song dedicated to my sister to let her know that as her big brother, I'm always going to be there for her. I know that without her, I may have never fallen in love with singing! I guess one I personally love from the album is "What I Miss Most." It's reflective, nostalgic and is great to listen to when I'm far from home and miss my hometown. Plus it's one of my more upbeat tracks, so at least this won't have people crying, hopefully! #10 2018 WIREMAG.COM 9

DF: Did you get to choose who you got to work with on your new album? CS: My labels, Capitol and Virgin UK, have been so amazing! They've given me a lot of control and a lot of decision-making, and made me feel very involved. For me, that's very important because it makes me feel like I'm in the driver's seat. I chose my producers, like Fraser T. Smith. He's worked with Adele, Sam Smith, and Ellie Goulding. He's incredible and an absolute sweetheart. I have so much respect for him. The beautiful thing about collaborations is that you create a unique magic that you would never have been able to make on your own. DF: What about artists? Who is on your collaboration bucket list? CS: I must admit that I would absolutely love to work with Adele. She just has one of those voices that completely captivate me. I spent most of her Wembley Stadium show in London in tears and have got nothing but respect for her! It would be awesome to work with Ed Sheeran – he kills it! The same goes for Sia. For a change of musical scenery, I would love to get on a track with Calvin Harris. Everything that bloke touches turns golden. But even taking it back a little further, I would love to work with Sting. Top man! And he is a northerner like me, so guaranteed we would get on like a house on fire!

DF: You went into Britain's Got Talent expecting to become a singer, but you've emerged as an icon and role model for young gay men everywhere. Has that shifted your approach to your songwriting or how you present yourself to the world? CS: Going from someone who just genuinely loved music with big dreams, to now having my own album of songs that I have written myself, my approach to songwriting has always remained the same; to be sincere, honest and relatable. To think that not even three years ago I was still pretty terrified to talk about my sexuality openly and confidently, and now being considered an icon and a role model is very surreal but truly humbling. I wrote this album from personal experiences with the hope that it inspires others, but regardless I will still present myself as the same grateful Yorkshire man that started out. DF: Any plans to tour the album in the U.S. this year? Maybe in Miami? CS: I would absolutely love to! I did a short headline tour of the U.S. at the end of 2016 and fell in love with playing in the States! As soon as you guys want me back, I'm there! And Miami, I would gladly come play a show for you. It would be my very first time there, so send me the invite and I'm yours! Only Human by Calum Scott is out March 9th.

When Jorge Freire told me that he had done a photo shoot of a stunning Russian model, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to see the photos of Anton. After reviewing the photographs, I decided to reach out to Anton for an interview, so our readers could meet him through a Wire Magazine photo essay by Photo Studio Miami. Check out what Anton had to say and enjoy the photos of this dazzling Russian import to South Florida. Rafa Carvajal: Where are you originally from and where do you live? Anton Ivannikov: I am originally from Russia, I was born and raised there near Moscow. Now I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida near the beach. RC: Describe yourself in three words. AI: Outgoing, professional and a man of my word.

RC: What do you do for a living? AI: I work in a retail clothing store, and always make my customers happy by dressing them nice and neat! RC: Who is the professional icon that inspires you most, and why? AI: Arnold Schwarzenegger is big inspiration to me. He came to the U.S. with almost nothing. The only things he had were his dreams and goals in life. He never stopped and always went for his dreams no matter what or who, and built himself to the top! I respect that. RC: How do you stay in such great shape? AI: I'm always working out, even on my days off. I do a little bit of cardio or swimming. I also follow my diet 5 days a week and it helps me not gain too much fat, ha-ha. RC: What do you enjoy the most about modeling for photography? AI: I would say it is the environment. When I model, I feel that I am a different person. I know if we get a great shot people will look at it and say, "wow, who is this guy?" It will also help me to inspire them. RC: Boxers or briefs? RC: What is your favorite food? AI: Traditional Russian borscht soup and T-bone steaks. RC: What is your favorite pastime? AI: Hard question! I have the best time while on vacation with my family.
