PUBLISHER'S CORNER BEAUTIFUL MEN'S FASHION COLLECTIONS I write this week's Publisher's Corner from the new AC Marriott Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I have been staying while I work on launching the new Puerto Rico operations of Q Link Wireless the same day this issue goes to press in the U.S. I also took a break from work this past weekend to have fun at the Hydro Caribbean Festival in Puerto Rico, which I sponsored with Wire Magazine for the second year in a row. The Festival hosted several parties with great DJs, some of the faces that are familiar to the readers of Wire Magazine, including DJ Dani Toro, who spun this year's rooftop pool party at the San Juan Water and Beach Club Hotel in Isla Verde, the Festival host hotel. It was great seeing Dani after my recent interview and cover photo of him in Wire Magazine, just three issues ago. Dani did an outstanding job at the pool party and it was wonderful to dance to his music on the rooftop of our oceanview hotel. This week we bring you a special fashion issue with the Fall/Winter 2017 men's fashion collections from Versace, Balmain and Acne Studios. If you enjoy beautiful models and the latest creations for men from these three fashion houses, you are definitely going to like this issue. Putting together our fashion issues is always great because I get to pick a select group of models and runway looks after reviewing entire collections from famous fashion houses. Aspects of fashion are timeless – and so is iconic '80s New Wave group Blondie. Nearly 40 years after their debut, Blondie is delivering their 11th studio album, Pollinator. In Top Trax, music columnist DJ FR8-O asserts that the new collection takes the group back to their New Wave days – melding elements of classic rock with synths and pop melodies – while still keeping it fresh with the help of big-boy (and girl) collaborators like Dev Hynes, Sia, Charli XCX and Nick Valensi from The Strokes. It's more than a blast from the past, it's continued evolution. Finally in this issue of Wire Magazine, travel writer Dane Steele Green takes us away to Colombia and its scenic capital, Bogotá. Years of turbulence left Colombia with a bad reputation that it is still trying to dispel, even though those days are long gone. These days, there is much to see and do there in the self-described "Gay Capital of the World." While it might not be that exactly, Bogotá does support a huge Pride celebration and a colorful Carnival, which ramp up the appeal of beautiful Colombia. I always fondly remember my visit to Bogotá when I traveled there on business. The Bogotanos were very friendly and sophisticated. In many ways the city reminded of Madrid, one of the cities I truly love in this world. I had the privilege of traveling to Madrid often when I worked for the Telefónica Group, and Bogotá definitely reminded me of Madrid and its residents. Cheers,

COLOMBIA EMERALD CITY f Colombia has a problem, it is reputation. Back in the '70s through to the early '90s, the country was downright dangerous for everybody. Drug cartels and a particularly vicious civil war birthed the idea that the country was in a permanent tailspin and that foreigners would be shot on site if not kidnapped, ransomed for a fortune, and then shot on sight. It's an image that has been hard to shake. Truth be told, Colombia's been sittin' pretty for the last 16 years, and any precautions you have to take now are the same precautions you would take anywhere. Colombia has a lot of plusses and points, but from a gay travel perspective, all roads lead to the capital of Bogotá, particularly to the hip (and hipster) neighborhood of Chapinero. Gay Pride kicks off in June, and while the city's self-proclaimed title of "Gay Capital of
the World" may be a bit of a stretch, it shows that Bogotá takes the whole LGBTQ thing seriously. But perhaps it is understandable, given that the Theatron mega club is one of the biggest gay nightclubs on the planet. It practically dominates the entire scene (as well as an entire city block). But that does not mean you should skip other hotspots like El Mozo, Gia Bar or the Village Cafe. Never underestimate a Latin country's drive to have the best party. Beyond the club scene, Bogotá gives every indication of a city on the rise. And I mean that in more ways than one: Because the city is over 8,000 feet up, lowlanders may want to give themselves a day or two of low-level activities to acclimate. One of the bling-iest draws is the world-famous Gold Museum, dedicated to the goldsmithing of pre-Colom-
bian and pre-Spanish cultures. The most famous piece is the Muisca Raft, arguably one of the most iconic works ever made in the New World. Certainly not "low-level" is Carnival – this is South America, after all. However, Bogotá bucks the Lenten trend and holds its parade and assorted parties in (huh?) August. But like any other Carnival on the continent, this puppy shuts the city down. If you are not there to have a good time and dance the night away, you may as well just stay in your hotel. And if you are into salsa, you are in luck; the genre has a hammerlock on the country. Other photo-ops include the pastel-colored lanes of the old La Candelaria part of town, Journalists' Park, and the quirky San Alejo flea market. And if you are into gemstones at all, there is no better place to score a few emeralds. Colombia is synonymous with them.

Men's Fashion Collections Fall/Winter 2017 By Michael W. Sasser
Versace's Fall/Winter '17 collection reflects the brotherhood of Versace – the strength of individuals, the power of unity. Outerwear includes long, knitted coats that wrap the body, or sharply tailored coats that are held by belts to dramatize the silhouette. Prints throughout are like markmaking, as if the hand-painted pattern of an ancient tribe. The prints unify and blend the collection between formal and casual. Nylon trenches have light yet dynamic volume, with double-length belts to hold and exaggerate their elegant fluidity. Photographic prints of classical sculptures are collaged with images of hardware, symbolizing the idealistic beauty of male power through the ages. Shearling coats bring the survival instincts of the wilds to the city, while plaid shirts are rugged for the urban landscape. Positive words of hope are embroidered on the chest of shirts and nylon zip-ups, with hidden messages of affirmation also sewn inside coats to embolden the wearer. The pattern and beauty of African textiles are found in jacquard coats that are woven like blankets, or graphic sweaters that were proudly knitted by hand. The Versace suit is refreshed and lightened: the strong silhouette is now neat to the body, with a soft constructed shoulder for the way men wear tailoring today. BALMAIN Music and fashion have long been intertwined in the distinct signature look of Balmain. It is therefore no surprise that Balmain's Fall/Winter '17 collection reflects the classic trajectory of a rock anthem. It opens with the relaxed ease of layered knitwear that builds upon last season's slouchy silhouette, followed by a diverse, steady escalation moving through plays of camos, denim, studded leathers, plaids and graphic black and whites. The escalation concludes with a full-throated roar that accompanies rich colors paired with impressive offerings of the type of detailed embellishments that Balmain's atelier is celebrated for. The runway's final crescendo underlines this collection's debt to the spirit and style of the hardest of the '80s hard rockers – men who paired hypermasculine, who-gives-a-f*ck primal screams with eye-catching looks that consistently challenged accepted standards and fluidly crossed over the barriers of outdated gender norms. An investigation into fabric and shape, with a deep respect for materials, focusing on the clothes of 1980s classic businessmen combined with the1940s "New Look" of couture defines Acne Studios' Men's Fall/ Winter 2017 looks with a mood of lightness and calm. Fabrics are amplified and even swollen to create a richness of form and structure, in sorbet colors like dessert in a fine restaurant.1980s double-breasted suits, in wool pinstripe or Prince of Wales check, are bonded with scuba to create shape, then fitted at the waist as if a couture construction. Matching trousers have long pleats at the waist that eventually fan out for a graphic effect, with a seam running down the back of the leg to maintain the correct form. Shirts may have a classic businessman's white collar, but the body is in fluid cupro, and in shades of red or blue. Cashmere blend sweaters are cropped and ribbed, with high v-necks and pleats in the back to emphasize the shape. Longer sweaters have extra volume cut into the back. Ribbed ski sweaters that zip at the neck have been flocked to create texture, while certain mélange suits have been sprayed to mattify their appearance. Motifs from the products in a gentleman's store – hounddogs, golfing diamonds – are embroidered as repeat patterns on grey ribbed ski sweaters that zip at the neck. Sneakers have platform soles and amplified features to echo the volume of the tailoring. Bags use covers from classic issues of Acne Paper in an act of image recycling.

It was 1980 when Blondie got their first taste of No.1 status with their Grammy-winning juggernaut "Call Me." The years that followed gave us more iconic hits like "Heart of Glass," "Atomic" and the track notorious for being one of the first raps songs to hit radio, "Rapture." Nearly 40
years and several incarnations later, Blondie is delivering their 11th studio album, Pollinator. The new collection takes the group back to their New Wave days – melding elements of classic rock with synths and pop melodies – while still keeping it fresh with the help of big-boy (and girl) collaborators like Dev Hynes, Sia, Charli XCX and Nick Valensi from The Strokes. In an interview with Mojo, lead guitarist Chris Stein explained, "We thought to ask [other] people because there's so much good music swirling about. We sorted the contributors ourselves, or someone would send us a bunch of songs and we'd pick one." It seems Blondie's open-door strategy paid off. Thanks to such diverse talent from so many different genres and generations, Pollinator is a treat for the soul that's at once nostalgic and forward-thinking. Debbie's unmistakable voice is still perfection as she narrates stories of love and reckless abandon as flawlessly and unapologetically as she did on her 1976 debut. The lead single "Fun" is a dance-y confessional whose title says it all. Hook-heavy follow-ups "My Monster" and "Long Time" echo the same upbeat tone, while guitar-laced tracks like "Gravity," the Sia co-penned "Best Day Ever" and "Doom or Destiny" (featuring Joan Jett) spotlight the band's classic rock roots. As if their audio encore wasn't enough to make you want to dust off your ripped jeans and tease your hair, Blondie will also be kicking off their "Rage and Rapture Tour" this summer along with co-headliners Garbage. hat is it about the '80s that we just can't seem to get enough of? To this day, the decade of decadence continues to seep into the fashions we flaunt, the movies we see and especially the music we love. One of the era's most iconic recording artist was a certain blonde who ruled the airwaves with sexually charged anthems powered by unforgettable hooks. No, I don't mean Madonna. This particular provocateur was causing a commotion long before the "Material Girl" had her first hit. Her name is Debbie (or Deborah) Harry, and with the help of her bandmates – collectively known as Blondie – she ushered in the '80s with a ménage of rock, reggae and disco that influenced almost every female artist that followed and is still a muse to many of today's divas.
