PUBLISHER’S CORNER SUPPORTING OUR LGBTQ BUSINESSES It is of the utmost importance that all of us support gay owned businesses, given the fact that discrimination against LGBTQ people is still a problem in many parts of the world. This week, we bring you a cover story about KBAYO Luxury Mens Beachwear by OUTfair. OUTfair is the first and only marketplace in the world dedicated exclusively to distributing products made by LGBTQowned businesses. Andres Vasquez, president of OUTfair, explained to me that they search for the best emerging LGBTQ designers and work with them to improve branding and production, if needed. Then they buy the products and help them to reach the world market through outfair.com. Right now they distribute brands from Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica and the United States, and have plans to add three more brands this year. They also own two swimwear brands, KBAYO Luxury Mens Beachwear and LAVISH NY. Andres and his husband are the co-founders and presidents of the Colombian LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and they have always worked to better the economic empowerment of LGBTQ people. They feel this is the best way they can help our community exercise and further our rights and liberties. In 2014, with the NGLCC (US National LGBT Chamber of Commerce), the SBA and USAID, they created the International Diversity Supplier Program to support the economic empowerment of the LGBTQ community around the world. With the policy and the program ready, they created outfair.com as the perfect channel to distribute the products of all those LGBTQ entrepreneurs worldwide. As for their two brands, this was the result of the difficult times with COVID-19. Many of their entrepreneurs stopped production and they had to start their own brand, KBAYO, and discovered a new passion. LAVISH followed shortly thereafter, and they believe more will be on the way. With OUTfair they are planning to add 10 more LGBTQ-owned businesses by 2022 and open pop-up stores at all of the 11 Axel Hotels. They are also working to improve their shipping process to reduce it from five days delivery to two days. KBAYO swimwear, fresh off the runway at Miami Swim Week, is planning on presenting new collections in swim weeks in California, Las Vegas and New York. Enjoy the sexy models wearing KBAYO in our cover story. In this issue, we also bring you a Dining Delicious about Time Out Market Miami, a Health & Wellness regarding reducing the risk of colon cancer by getting screened, and a Flix film review of Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It. Stay tuned for next month’s special issue about the upcoming Miami Beach Pride celebration, and the 2021 Miami Spice Dining Program, which returns August 1 to September 30. Cheers,

Summer is in full swing, so what better way to enjoy it than sporting some super sexy swimwear. Wire Magazine sat down with Andres Vasquez, president of KBAYO swimwear from OUTfair, to learn more about the brand and their products.
#7 2021 WIREMAG.COM 13
Rafa Carvajal: Where can people interested in your products purchase them in person and online? Andres Vasquez: The main sales channel for our company is outfair.com, where we have all the brands in stock and we offer free shipping on all orders. But if you want to see and touch the products first, you can visit our pop-up store at the new LGBTI focus hotel in Miami Beach, AxelBeach Hotel. Axel Hotels has partnered with OUTfair, and soon we will have a store in all the 11 Axel Hotels around the world. RC: What do you enjoy the most about your business? AV: There is nothing better for OUTfair than seeing all these small businesses grow and succeed. One of the brands in the program was created by a kid that was expelled by his family after coming out, and was living in a shelter in Bogotá, Colombia. His only possessions were his creativity and a sewing machine. We discovered him selling some swimsuits at weekend street markets. After three years working together, he is now living in his own place, exporting his collections around the world, has employees and is economically independent. RC: What are the top three business challenges you had to overcome? AV: 1) Legality: Many small LGBTQowned businesses in developing countries do not have the financial resources and legal advisory to have accounting, registrations and taxes done. That has been a big challenge as every country is different, and the needs of every business also vary. 2) Money: To keep supporting the brands, have new collections, improve the products and reach new markets, money is always an issue. We have to help find the resources for every new brand. 3) Reliable suppliers: One of the most difficult challenges is to find the right suppliers, responsible, consistent and able to honor deadlines.
14 WIREMAG.COM #7 2021
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? AV: All our customers on outfair.com may not know it, but you have changed the lives of dozens of LGBTQ entrepreneurs around the world. These people were expelled from their homes after coming out, fired from their jobs, or lost bids just because of who and how they love. As a community, we have to understand the terrible situation the LGBTQ community around the world also lives in and help them to succeed economically, as it is proved that an economic independent LGBTQ person is less vulnerable to discrimination. If you know an LGBTQ entrepreneur who wants to be featured in our marketplace, tell them to contact us at info@outfair.com. Follow OUTfair on Instagram @outfairshop, Facebook @outfair and Twitter @outfairshop.

HEALTH & WELLNESS By Jonathan Welsh
IMPROVING COLORECTAL HEALTH AND REDUCING THE RISK OF COLON CANCER
If you have got a colon, then you are at-risk for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is a disease that starts in the lower portion of your digestive system. According to the American Cancer Society, about one in 23 men and one in 25 women will develop this cancer at some point in their lives. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer deaths. Most people who get colon cancer are over 50. However, in the last decade the rate of colon cancer has increased in younger adults. If you have a family history of colon cancer, you might benefit from earlier screenings. It can strike anyone, even otherwise healthy people with no family history of the disease. Until August 31, 2021, Care Resource is offering a NOCOST fecal immunochemical test (FIT) for uninsured patients, plus a $20 gift card for all patients who receive a colon cancer screening or proof of colonoscopy. There are several methods used to detect colon cancer today. The first is a colonoscopy. This is an endoscopic examination of the large bowel and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera. The second method is the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) that tests for hidden blood in the stool, which can be an early sign of cancer. FIT only detects human blood from the lower intestines. Lastly, there is Cologuard®, a stoolDNA screening test for detecting colon cancer that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Cologuard® looks for changes in your DNA that could indicate the presence of colon cancer or precancerous polyps that might be present in your colon. Speak with a Care Resource medical provider today at 305-576-1234 to see if and when you should get screened for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is common and preventable. Not all cancers can be prevented – but colon cancer can be!

TIME OUT MARKET MIAMI Photos Provided by Time Out Market Miami
If our sweltering summer days and nights are too hot for you to dine al fresco, Time Out Market Miami in South Beach can be a great option featuring an array of delicious food establishments and well-stocked bars in a one-stop-shop with air conditioning. The concept team at Time Out Portugal, created in 2014, and launched inside Lisbon’s historic market Mercado da Ribeira, with 24 restaurants, eight bars, a dozen shops and a high-end music venue, led the introduction of the new Time Out Market in the heart of South Beach. I recently attended Time Out Market Miami’s “Summer in the City” celebration to enjoy some delectable food and refreshing libations, and preview the premiere of their new and returning vendors. I love pizza and fried chicken, so I was thrilled to sample scrumptious dishes from the Market’s two new additions. At Square Pie City, chef Jeremiah Bullfrog uses only the best ingredients for his Detroit-style pizza: Italian flour for the double-fermented, 72-hour dough; red sauce made from scratch; and a special cheese that he stuffs into the sides of each pan before baking it to render a crispy, bubbly crust better than any I had ever tasted before. Celebrity chef to the stars Amaris Jones is now serving up her Chick’n Jones chefdriven modern fried chicken, available in sandwich form,
