THERE’S ALWAYS FREE WIRELESS ACCESS AT THE LGBT VISITOR CENTER

EDITOR IN CHIEF’S NOTE BEWARE: YOU COULD LOOSE EVERYTHING! any of us love using popular cloud computing services such as iCloud, Google, Amazon, and DropBox because they are convenient ways to store information “on the cloud” for access from anywhere, for backup, and because they allow us to quickly retrieve information on any device. I particularly like working with my Wire Magazine team and our advertisers using cloud computing because I am always on the run and this allows me to use my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro to access all the information I need from anywhere at any time. Even though cloud computing is a great tool, there is a huge downside that I have been aware of since I started using it. You could lose everything, everywhere! I want all Wire Magazine readers to understand this downside and be aware of the risks of cloud computing that come with all the great benefits. This huge risk became perfectly clear this week when we learned that Mat Honan, tech writer for technology Magazine Wired, was hacked. The hacker who attacked Mat Honan used his cloud computing accounts to, amongst other things, erase all the data on his iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Imagine if someone did that to you and you lost all your personal and business information. For me, it would be devastating. There are three key things we all need to be aware of: how was this done, what can we do to protect ourselves, and how to minimize the damage a hacker could cause if we are the victims of such an attack. Let me start with the simpler and most obvious prevention measure to minimize the damage a hacker could cause if they target you. 1) Back up all your devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop, and computer) once per week into a physical hard drive (not onto the cloud). 2) Physical hard drives also fail, so buy a second hard drive and make a mirror copy of your backup in case one hard drive dies – it does happen! 3) Never, ever use easy to figure out passwords. 4) Get yourself an app on your smartphone that is encrypted to the highest levels and store all your passwords there. Do not store passwords anywhere else, such as on a word file on your computer, in emails, or the cloud. You could also write them down in a physical notebook and place it in your safe with your other valuables. 5) Be aware of the real security holes in any service you use, such as email and cloud computing. Now let me explain how the hacker was able to get to the point where he could a) use Apple's remote wipe tool to delete all the data from Mat Honan's iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, b) erase his Google account, and c) take over his Twitter page to post racist and homophobic messages. The hacker found Honan's home address and e-mail address online (very easy to do for a lot of people these days). He then contacted Amazon with the mailing address and email and used it to get the last four digits of Honan's credit card number from Amazon. He then called Apple customer support impersonating Honan and used the last 4 digits of the credit card and the billing address to verify his identity and gain access to Honan's iCloud account with a temporary password provided by Apple, and to his .Me account (which is tied to the iCloud account). Honan was using his .Me account as his backup e-mail for his Gmail account, so the hacker was able to take over Honan's Gmail account and to reset the passwords for all of Honan's key accounts that used Gmail, including his personal and business Twitter accounts. Voila! Hacker heaven... Rafa Publisher & Editor in Chief rafa@wireweekly.com (Soon to be rafa@wiremag.com) 4 | wire magazine | issue #32, 2012 | www.wireweekly.com | facebook | twitter

RULE THE SCHOOL: LOOKIN' SICK IN ANY CLIQUE The Over Achiever You know the type: He expertly juggles his role as hall monitor with duties as head of the Straight-Gay Alliance, member of the student council and captain of the fencing team, among his many other activities. For the upstanding student with the stellar extracurricular record and the aspiration to become class president at any cost, Studwear presents its Brandon Brief, a low-rise trunk with front contoured pouch, white waist band, grey piping, and the patented Stud International print in white on the left side. In these briefs, you will get the job done. $36.00. LAJock.com

The Rebel For the breed of juvenile delinquents whose restless alienation finds catharsis in questioning authority (and listening to parentforbidden music riddled with dirty lyrics), Teamm8 presents its Power brief. Made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane, these are the briefs loner Jim Stark, played by James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause would have worn. Sure, the pink brief would have clashed with his red-windbreaker, but he wouldn’t have cared. $29.00. LAJock.com

The Stoner For the guys that missed Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” anti-drug program of the ‘80s, Addicted offers its basic brief made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The low cut and snug grip of the brief is badass, but what’s most smoking is the provocative waistband that boldly and unapologetically declares what everyone else in the school already suspected. $31.00. RULE THE SCHOOL: LOOKIN' SICK IN ANY CLIQUE

The Punk For the Harley-riding, leatherbooted, diesel boy with the dark, dangerous looks and cocky sneer, ES Collection offers its Jock-string, made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex with elastic mesh (80% poliamide and 20% spandex) on the side. The brief offers a superb combination for the H.O.G. who loves his strings but needs a little something to keep his ass riding high even after he comes down from his bike. $62.50. ESCollectionUSA.com

The Prep For the well-coiffed man dressed headto-toe in Ralph Lauren, who says “ugh” about nothing and eschews being within ten feet of anyone who even appears to be homeless, Freedom Reigns presents the sharp-looking Academy brief. Made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex, it’s a sexy low rise brief in Ivy League colors that perfectly fulfill every extrinsic desire of the modern prep: The briefs look good, are sure to win friends, and because they’re a relatively new brand – everyone will die to know where and how you got them. $31.50. Sk8ter Boi Hang ten dude in the Love Boxer by ES Collection. Made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex, these fly threads are stupid tight, almost like a second skin. They also feature a little heart printed on the side; what is more dope than that? As if that’s not enough, check out the way awesome fly on the side. It’s black and contrasts insanely with the sick fabric and buttons. $62.50. ESCollectionUSA.com

The Partier The boys of Teamm8 are getting the party started with the latest version of their Nations brief. Made of soft, stretchy cotton with 5% elastane, its lean cut, simple fly front and vibrant color pallet set against the classic white waistband have made it a popular brief for fun guys who like to live on the edge. And sorry Miley, they’re not just for those who want to “party in the USA.” The brief’s booty is emblazoned with several leading countries names so take your pick and party ‘round the world. $29.00. eing sporty, comfortable, and sexy doesn’t always go hand-in-hand, especially for the image conscious athlete, weight lifter, or gym enthusiast. While most men turn to the jock strap or boxer for comfort during activities that require “ventilation,” why should you have to sacrifice a sexy and form fitting brief for the sake of fitness? Timoteo, the Los Angeles based men’s athletic-wear brand, has created the next generation sports brief to accommodate the body while allowing you to look and feel your best.

TIMATEO'S NEXT GENERATION SPORTS BRIEF

Made from a cotton/spandex blend creating the ultimate in comfort and design, the Timoteo SPORT 2.0 caters to the stylish man who also spends a tremendous amount of time in the gym. The sports brief allows you to reach your full fitness potential while looking good doing it. A new-and-improved version of one of Timoteo’s best-selling collections ever, the SPORT 2.0 epitomizes a sporty brief with personality, available in a myriad of fresh summer colors – something Timoteo Ocampo, Creative Director and Co-Owner of Timoteo, took into consideration from customer’s feedback that were tired of “off-the-shelf underwear with no style.”

TIMATEO'S NEXT GENERATION SPORTS BRIEF The collection boasts some of the boldest colors of the season in contrasting designs. White against orange & blue trim, royal blue against varsity green trim, black against red and black against striker blue trim in four bold styles: the SUPER LOW, the SCOUT BOXER BRIEF, the best selling ATHLETE JOCK, and the SOCCER JOCK. The high demand collection has already shipped as far as the UK, Russia, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.
