Real WNY Love Story
How We Met
“I met Neal once at my shoe boutique in 2009 and later that winter, I threw a beach party in my apartment. Neal showed up with swim trunks on and a lifeguard whistle. After sharing some punch and talking to each other all night, we were headed out to Allen Street when Neal forgot his camera upstairs. I took him back up to grab it, and we shared our first kiss. Fast forward three years and we’re living in New Orleans. It’s the Fourth of July and we’re laying in Crescent Park on a blanket watching the fireworks with a thousand other people, and out of nowhere, he popped the question!”
Vibrant Choices
“Everything, from the food, to the furniture and the wardrobe had to be out of the ordinary. I knew I wanted a wedding dress that was a little fashion forward, and the blush Vera Wang dress just wouldn’t leave my head! Because my dress was pink, it was a struggle to come up with a specific color scheme, so we finally said ‘If we like it, let’s do it.’ The vintage furniture were all inspired by the theme, and laid out to encourage mingling and comfort. I think part of the beauty of our wedding day was the vibrancy of it all!”
Nola in EA
“We were married on July 4th, 2015 in Buffalo, but living in New Orleans when we got engaged, planning the majority of the wedding remotely was a big challenge. Fortunately, I had our wedding planner, and my parents doing so much of the footwork in Buffalo, that we were able to pull off a New Orleans style wedding at Knox Farms. We didn’t want to be limited in any way and had to throw anything boring or traditional out the window. We had to have a second line at our ceremony, which is a parade with a brass band traditionally done at NOLA weddings. We wanted to have an upscale, backyard barbecue for the reception. Our caterer was so amazing, it’s possible we were teleported to some lovely old plantation home in the South that evening!”

Real WNY Love Story
First Sight
“We first met in 2011 on a blind date; a double dinner-date at a pizzeria with mutual friends. We had a wonderful time and have been together ever since. Falling in love with Daniel was easy; he’s a generous, loving man who thinks of everyone else first. We spent an enormous amount of time together while we dated. Daniel owned a horse, and we went riding every weekend together.”
The Big Ask
“Not too long after meeting, we realized we had the same birthday, August 2nd. It was only fitting that on our shared birthday in 2014, on our normal walk in Williamsville, Daniel proposed at Glen Falls, while we were sitting on ‘our bench’.”
Local Venues
“The church was easy; I wanted to get married at my alma mater Canisius College, so I booked Christ the King Chapel. The reception venue was a bit more tricky, but we chose The Fox Valley Club after meeting with them. They were amazing and it was one of the best choices we made.”
Special Touches
“We ended the night with fireworks done by Skylighters. I kept it a secret from absolutely everyone, except a handful of vendors. Fox Valley put a blanket out for us to get outside and spend a few minutes alone together before our guests joined. The results are some of the best pictures of our night.”

Phil and Carly “We knew we wanted to get matching tattoos, and after deliberating on some ideas, we met an artist who had drawn roses, and we thought they were perfect. We loved the look and style, and since roses represent love, we knew it would be great for us. We also both have an affinity for lighthouses, and after I proposed to Carly at the Buffalo lighthouse, it was a no-brainer for us to add those as well.” Leah and Michael
“Our tattoos, ‘Siempre Contigo’, sit on our left wrists, somewhere we would see often. It translates as ‘Always With You’ and symbolizes our love for each other, how we’re always there for one another, and how we’re never alone. It also exists for our loved ones that have passed. Although it’s just one, simple phrase, it encompasses a lot of different meanings for us.”
Erika and Maggie “We had always wanted to get some sort of tattoo for each other and loved the idea of two girls with tin can phones. The tattoo fits us perfectly because Maggie is the listener and I am definitely the talker in our relationship.”
Define your style with these bold DIY embellishments!
DVD Geometric Shoes What You’ll Need:
Shoes / DVDs / Scissors / Tweezers / Epoxy
Cut the DVDs in half and carefully peel the two layers apart. Cut the reflective side into a variety of shapes. Lay down a pattern on the table to find one you love. Apply the epoxy and begin laying the mirrored pieces onto the shoe using tweezers. Follow the drying directions for the epoxy. View more DIY inspiration on our website!
Upcycled Belt or Sash What You’ll Need:
Ribbon / Vintage Items Such as Earrings, Necklaces or Brooches / Glue / Needle and Thread
Cut the ribbon to fit around your waist, with plenty of excess for tying. Start with you vintage accessories and glue or sew the items to the ribbon. Have fun with the layout and create a piece that’s truly unique to your style. Once you have a finished design, sew the ends of the ribbon to eliminate fraying and show off your new accessory!
Pearl Collar Necklace What You’ll Need:
Headband / Beads / Needle and Thread
Use a strong thread the same color as your beads, and create a knot at the tip of the headband so the thread is securely attached. Trim the excess from your knot and begin threading your beads to the desired length. The first strand should be the longest, so after every strand of beads you attach, shorten them gradually until you get to the shortest length you’d like (we suggest about 3-4” long.) Continue this around the headband, lengthening again as you make your way around the other side.

JESSICA & LEVI
How We Met
“I met Levi on a dating website, according to which we had a ‘96% match’. For a month, we chatted back and forth about our mutual love of movies and Doctor Who, until I finally said ‘Why haven’t you asked me out yet?’, which lead to our first date!”
How He Popped the Question
“Levi made dinner one night and recommended that we watch a holiday movie. I chose one of my favorites, Love Actually. What I didn’t know is the version we were watching had some special edits. In the famous scene with the cue cards, Levi edited in new cards to show pictures of the two of us as Muppets and talked about our relationship! When the final card appeared on screen, it asked if I would marry Levi!”

“Doctor Who” Inspiration
“As both of us are huge fans, the start of the theme of the wedding was easily Doctor Who. This gave us the ability to include some of our other science fiction fandoms like Back to the Future and Jules Verne. Reception attendees dressed in various time periods which added another fun aspect and helped reinforce the theme.”
A Very DIY Wedding
“Almost the entire wedding was DIY. Having everyone we love work together to create our vision was so touching. The bouquets were paper flowers made from used books and atlases, and included vintage buttons and silk flowers from my mother’s and grandmother’s dresses and bouquets. We are so happy that people went along with our wacky vision!”

Real WNY Love Story
Married
“My husband, Sean, and I met 10 years ago at a bar (so classic). Sean had just moved to Rochester on somewhat of a trial basis, but of course, I have kept him here for a decade now. We fell in love the way people do, and in 2010, Sean surprised me by proposing, ring in hand, at a picturesque spot in Ireland. It happened only several days into a 3 week trip (without cell service to call back home), so it was a very fun and romantic way to begin our engagement.”
Custom Touches
“We considered a photo booth but wanted to stick with the vintage look. With a lot of help from my stepfather, we built a photo booth that was a trifold wall of photos and frames which was a lot of fun for us and all our guests. At the center of our dessert table was our wedding cake, which I absolutely loved since it was decorated by my husband during the pre-wedding rush less than an hour before our ceremony.”
Mad Tea Party
“It was our goal to come up with a wedding day that was unique to us. After much discussion, we arrived upon a theme that can only be described as a whimsical, vintage tea party with a subtle nod to Alice in Wonderland. There were a few illustrations from the books showing up here and there (menus, beverage stations, etc.). Dinner had a sort of mad tea party vibe, which I tried to encompass with mismatched china place settings and single blooms of ranunculus with their erratic, curvy stems. Remembering the White Rabbit’s fear of being ‘late for an important date,’ I worked vintage clock faces into the tablescapes! We were able to find a handful of different publications of Alice in Wonderland that I also incorporated into the table decor amongst other vintage and antique books. Our save-the-dates invited guests to dress with vintage flare if they chose. As we watched our guests arrive from an upstairs window, we were ecstatic to see the results: old-fashioned hats, suspenders, vintage-inspired hairstyles, and more!”

“A great marriage takes commitment, perseverance and constant tending.”
Claudia & Andrew Peruzzini, Married 30 years “Every relationship is different, but one staple we’ve found great pleasure in is participating in an activity your spouse really enjoys. It’s a way of understanding each other better, and being with each other at the same time.”
Maria and Ed Eagen, Married 38 years “Being in love means never taking each other for granted. It’s those simple acts of selflessness that make us appreciate, respect and love each other more each day. Just bringing home that extra cup of ‘dark roast’ coffee can mean the world!”
Catherine and Luke Humphrey, Married 22 years “A marriage is built on many layers of commitment. The strongest commitment, of course, is to one another. Another, for us, is to family -- my husband and I met in high school, so we’ve known each other’s parents and siblings for a long time, and we have grown together into one big family. It’s also important to commit to one another’s individuality.”
Billie & Frederick McAdam, Married 34 years “Always talk through every issue and listen to each other. Never go to bed mad. Maintain some space in your life for the things you like to do as individuals. Be supportive and kind no matter the situation. Make your partner your best and most trusted friend. Compromise. Tell each other you love them, and value them. Be grateful to have this other person willing to share their life with you, and never lose sight of that.”
