DSI-NRF Centres of Excellence (CoE) The Centres of Excellence (CoEs) are physical or virtual centres of research that concentrate existing research excellence and capacity and resources, to enable researchers to collaborate across disciplines and institutions on long-term projects that are locally relevant and internationally competitive, in order to enhance the pursuit of research excellence and capacity development. Postgraduate students who have been recruited by an NRF-funded supervisor to be part of a research project/ group, under any of the NRF Funding Instruments listed below, should apply via the General Scholarships Category and should provide the NRF GrantUID Number (unique identification number), OR, provide the NRF Application Reference Number if the research project application has been submitted to the NRF for review.

Full Cost of Study (FCS) Average of ≥ 75% mark for major subjects in the final year of undergraduate study

Students should approach prospective supervisors or CoE Research/Business managers in this regard well in advance of the commencement of their studies.

Average of ≥ 65% mark for major subjects in the final year of undergraduate study for students that can demonstrate financial need
