Norman Reedus aka Daryl Dixon Interview WS: We are joined today by Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl on the Walking Dead. Norman, thank you so much for joining us today. NORMAN REEDUS: Oh, cool! Thanks for having me, guys! WS: Yeah man! Well all of us, of course we are, but also every single possible lady fan that we have that listens to our podcast is very excited. You blew up our website, this week, when we did our contest. We just thank you for being with us. It’s really exciting for us. NORMAN REEDUS: For wrecking your stuff? My pleasure. WS: Well, alright. I’ve got the first questions here. First, we’re going to ask some questions and then we are going to get into some fan questions. We’re actually going to call them live and then they’ll get a chance to talk to you live and ask you some questions. It’s going to be cool. NORMAN REEDUS: Alright. WS: So the first question is a personal question. Both James and I have 13 year-old boys and we know you do, as well. So we were wondering, what is it like? I mean ours tend to copy everything we do. They are constantly watching us and modeling themselves after everything we do. So, we know you love your son and love spending time with him and we were wondering what sort of things he gets into that you know he’s totally following in his dad’s footsteps? Is he into acting? What is he into and how does he follow you? NORMAN REEDUS: Well, let’s see…His first art show that he was ever in was to help pay for the defense fund of the Memphis Three. I’ve been doing that for eleven years or something…But he did a drawing of something that he called a Mountain Wolf. It was just this big wolf face with teeth everywhere, you know. And Jello Biafra, from the Dead Kennedy’s bought it and then sent it back to me. Yeah, he’s really into art. An art collector here called Creative Hardware, it is a five story building with a gallery on the first floor and a giant monster shop on the bottom where they would make giant saber tooth tigers for the Discovery channel and edit bays and painting studios. He used to run all over that place all the time making art all the time. You know, with handfuls of of things like bugs screaming, Get me a bucket! Get me a bucket! You know, stuff like that. He’s always dabbled in artistic endeavors with me. In that way, he does a lot of the same stuff I do. He sang in a band called God Fart. I know he get’s that from me. As far as the Daryl Dixon stuff, he’s got a lot of Daryl related swagg in his room. Like, someone will send me a giant squirrel wearing a Daryl Dixon vest and he’ll be like Do not put that in my room! I think he’s got enough. But he has crossbows on his wall and stuff. He’s much cooler than me, though. I think I more imitate him than he imitates me, to be honest. WS: Yeah. I definitely know the feeling. I definitely think my 13 year old is much cooler than I am. NORMAN REEDUS: We got the first copy of the Walking Dead Survival video game. He was the first civilian to play the game. The game’s insane. He’s good at gaming, too. The game’s hard though and really scary actually, for a video game. He was playing it and he
was like, Turn on the lights! It’s an intense game. It’s really good. So, he was playing that and it was kinda fun to watch him play me. To hear my voice, Get Down! Merle? Merle? Where are you? It was pretty intense. WS: Well, one of the things we saw last night was the scene between Daryl and Martinez that was kind of like, who’s got the bigger stick? This little back and forth. It was an awesome scene. Then, to have that re-connection at the end there were you both kinda realize you’re in the same spot and were two different guys. Do you think you will have to further reconcile that relationship with Martinez in the future? NORMAN REEDUS: The whole point of that, of Hershel talking to Dallas was to show you that there were these two figure heads in the barn, sort of, hashing out the future of all these people. Deep down, because of the situation, all these people are forced to hate each other, but deep down they really don’t know each other and they don’t really hate each other. If this didn’t go down, they wouldn’t need to go to war. In the early world wars, people on the battlefields would go and play games, card games with the people they were going to battle the next day. Then they would retreat to their sections of the field(do-do-do-dodo). Then they’d charge and kill each other. They’re just trying to survive. We are trying to show that they are all just really people. It weighs on Rick more than the Governor. He doesn’t care. But Rick’s got real people that he is making decisions for and about and it weighs heavy on him. The whole thing about Michonne. That was the point of that. And, I really like Jose. He’s a cool guy. WS: Yeah. We want to have him on the show soon. I just want to tell him that he has huge guns! Those arms man! NORMAN REEDUS: Yes he does. Those are big guns. All he needs is a baseball bat and a smirk. WS: He’s awesome! Alright. One more question from us and then we will get to the fan calls. Of course, we have seen all season long this thing between Daryl and Carol. They kind of tease that there’s a relationship there. That there is more than just a friendship there. I guess my question is, are we going to see a definitive answer there? Are they going to connect in a romantic way? Or are they not? Are we going to see a definitive answer? That’s the question. NORMAN REEDUS: Daryl nailed her. No. I can’t really tell you that. That’s a spoiler alert. I read this thing with Laurie Holden. People already know that there is a thing there. They are just waiting to see the money shot, but you gotta wait. We are already in a relationship. It’s just people want to see us hook up. I’ve always liked the fact that we are together for other reasons. There is a connection there. It’s damage. Not , I want to get with it. You know what I mean? WS: Yup. Well, definitely after last night with Glen and Maggie, there is at least a new spot in the garage that you can take your business too. NORMAN REEDUS: Yeah, well that’s their thing. I don’t want to be their thing. Let them do their thing. WS: Well, alright. Let’s get in to some calls. Eric is getting the first of our contest winners on the phone. We are going to call Kim. C: Hello? WS: Hey Kim. It’s James and Eric from the Walker Stalkers. You’re on with Norman Reedus. C: Hi guys! Hi Norman! NORMAN REEDUS: How’s it going? C: (giggles) It’s going really well. How are you? NORMAN REEDUS: I’m good. I’m good. WS: Well Kim, what’s your question for Norman?
