West Lothian?s Excellence in Sport Programme (ESSP) was established to support talented school students to achieve their full potential in their chosen sport. The programme operates across the core sports of , badminton, basketball, golf, handball, swimming and many individual sports. We are keen to explore the strong and positive correlation between high performance sports participation and academic attainment and will continue to monitor this throughout the year. I am personally interested in following the sporting careers of these talented young people and seeing them emerge as excellent role models within their schools. West Lothian Council is very proud of the achievements of the individual student athletes and the ESSP programme which enables students to balance their academic studies with progression along the talent pathways in their chosen sport?
